Poked around on trendlist and started thinking about how Iām going to format my recent essay on dark flows.
Finally at the mid semester mark! Clearly, Iāve been feeling white text and corals. Iāve been looking at album covers for color inspiration.Ā
Guess what day of the week Spot Night is? Trying to get the word out that people should stop by before they go out for the night. Doesnāt matter whoās playing, just drop in and have a good time with our new Friday slot.
Iāve been developing a little bit of a mod vibe with the most recent Spot Night posters! For each event, I also make a cover photo for the event page. Iām hoping to get some additional posters done soon for promoting the month of February.
Iām back making Spot Night posters! This semester, Ā Iām aiming to boost our social media presence and encourage people to come to our new Friday night time slot. After some discussion, Iām looking forward to some solid branding goals - stay tuned for our new clean cut, (apparently blend tool-based), and simple style.
CLE X UPB minimalism
For the UPB fall giveaway, I wanted to create more Cleveland-themed items! Especially since most CWRU themed giveaways are blue or grey, I wanted ours to stand out and be worn. Usually free shirts can be very busy, so this relatively minimal long sleeve was a bit out there.Ā
We passed these out in front of the library, hoping to catch students as they went to go study for finals.
The UPB logo hung out on the back, while the front featured CLE and Case Western Reserve University.
Vinyl Hexagons
My love for hexagons ventured into multimedia when I tried out the vinyl cutter for the first time! It took a little file converting, but all I had to do was weed out the pieces I didnāt need with a craft knife and transfer the sticker over. I didnāt use any transfer paper, but masking tape did the trick.Ā
Forgot about scale, so this big one found its home on the bottom of my laptop and my friendsā laptops, while the small one is on my calculator.
I've been messing around with glitch art during my short, short breaks! Once finals are over, I'm looking forward to getting more into the databending side of things. For these, I saved them as bitmaps, then opened them using the text editor WordPad. If the image wasn't overly corrupted and would still re-open, I saved it! I tried copy-pasting chunks of code and haven't reached any stylish insights but these color shifts and breaks are pretty interesting. Some images warp beyond recognition and others barely change at all. Who knows what I'll find with some more Internet guidance and exploration!
Images, as always, from my favorite MorgueFile.
CWRUchella
This oneās from quite a while back, but one of our first events coming back to school was CWRUchella, a carnival-type event for returning students and incoming freshman. We wanted the whole thing to have a festival vibe and planned on giving out flower crowns and fanny packs. Due to budget constraints, we ended up with only the fanny packs, but they were really popular!
I made a CWRUchella logo to use on swag (fanny packs), flyers, and social media. We also wanted to encourage people to join UPB, so making sure people knew who was throwing the event was key.
There were also physical flyers given out, and we changed the UPB cover photo to match.
I wanted to keep a summer-y festival vibe through out, but switching computers made it difficult to spend too much time on this project. If I had to re do it, I would deal with the information near the bottom of the poster in a different way, but I think the festival line-up look of the flyer made the theme clear. I also love the picture I chose for the edit and really want to do some more pink + yellow stuff.
I also got to make some fun coozies! The coozies were part of giveaway for both CWRUchella and the student activities fair. We wanted to give away something with our logo so people would think of joining. Oftentimes, the designs we see at the activities fair center around Case Western, so I thought itād be a change of pace to welcome people to Cleveland instead. We might not have sunshine like this all the time, but the navy coozies with the skyline were a hit!
Our school campus is the owner of 3 (soon to be 4!) laser cutters, so Iāve been experimenting with laser cutting. Iāve been trying out intricate patterns, but havenāt quite found a setting that I like - white paper shows off the crispiness a little too much. The navy cardstock doesnāt show the sear as much and can be cut into teeny tiny lines.
I also bought some gold spray paint, which covers up any burnt edges. Itās been challenging to avoid spraying everything I own, though.
Iāve been really into pinks and warm corals, especially paired with teal recently - so summery! Ā I was asked to draw this cute little dinosaur and couldnāt pick between all of color schemes I came up with... so I had to see him in all of them. Trying out a single weight style again, but this time, looser color fills and saturated flat colors.
A quick 80ā²s electro pop moodboard while I try to get my new site up and running. Itās probably going to take a while, but I definitely Ā have some new stuff to post... stay tuned!

Wanted to do something with gradient rings. Iāve been trying to get away from using landscapes and trying to work with geometric shapes more. Iām currently in love with hexagons and turning day scenes into night ones - that moon is just shapes and glow!
I saw a look on reddit that I liked and started off by trying to emulate it, basically a flat landscape in a circle and went from there. All images from MorgueFile: the moon, the trees, and the stars. I tried to use only Illustrator for this one, and besides the circle, I did! In Photoshop, I turned a day shot into a twilight one and added the moon to the scene - it was really interesting to play with the curves and try to make it look like it had been shot at night. Ā I wanted a more starry look, but once I added the splotches (hastily vectored low-res night sky), it looked really snowy so I went with it. Definitely have to work on copy and having a goal in mind for next time!
Fun fact: Winterfest is written in my handwriting, which is why the S looks terrible.
Tried out some geometric-y stuff for an idea I had in mind. It was way harder than it looked! Learned that a 20-sided polygon is an icosagon.

THE FIRST DAY IS THE HARDEST
practicing makes perfect?
Iām starting to look at my design crutches - what sort of styles do I see myself using over and over? Sometimes, I feel like Iām doing the same thing but Iāve got branding Iām paying attention to. Other times, I canāt come up with anything so I use something old.
I want to flesh out the styles Iāve been using and see how the same message looks on them. Hereās the first: the light leak nature extraordinaire. My brother called this one #justgirlythings.
Came down with something mysterious and Iāve just been spending hours on my laptop. Iām getting antsy not having the energy to go out. More line art it is, and more practice with the pen tool, as well.
Next time, Iām going to attempt to trace the type instead of applying a stroke and eyeballing the width.
