Aziraphale's expression here really stuck with me - and I think it may be because it is the moment Aziraphale realizes they aren't having one of their normal arguments.
I actually don't think he understands throughout Crowley's confession - he never fully responds or acknowledges anything Crowley says.
Crowley was prepped for this conversation, Aziraphale wasn't. He isn't picking up the signs.
I think about how Crowley really didn't see where Nina and Maggie were trying to take the conversation. Crowley honestly had no idea where they were going.
I think THIS is when it hits Aziraphale there is more happening here..
It's the first time his expression matches Crowley's.
And when Crowley says we could have been "us" Aziraphale turns away as he starts to get overwhelmed. It's all happening very fast, and it's just too much.
He's suddenly in a conversation he didn't see coming.
I don't know that Aziraphale has ever looked away from Crowley like this before?
I'm theorizing it's because he's overwhelmed. He's hurt. He's confused, and maybe scared?
His mask is completely gone. He's completely vulnerable.
He's covering with anger already.
But he's not allowed to retreat. Crowley isn't going to let him get off that easily.
In the same instant that it's beginning, it's somehow ending.
The kiss completely breaks him.
There's no misunderstanding at this point.
But it's too much.
It's Too Fast.
You go too fast for me, Crowley
Crowley always could pivot faster than Aziraphale. Add on the pressure of some prat (Metatron) watching through the window, and this being the FIRST time they've had such a real moment - I can see where it was just too much.
He has two choices.
Break. Or redirect his emotions to anger.
He chooses to steel himself up against a rising wave of sorrow.
This also means - had Aziraphale understood what Crowley was saying in real-time they could have come to a better resolution. They could have come together.

The best help I can offer is to point you to Amy Cuddy’s book, Presence. She talks about Imposter Syndrome (and interviews me in it) and offers helpful insight.
The second best help might be in the form of an anecdote. Some years ago, I was lucky enough invited to a gathering of great and good people: artists and scientists, writers and discoverers of things. And I felt that at any moment they would realise that I didn’t qualify to be there, among these people who had really done things.
On my second or third night there, I was standing at the back of the hall, while a musical entertainment happened, and I started talking to a very nice, polite, elderly gentleman about several things, including our shared first name. And then he pointed to the hall of people, and said words to the effect of, “I just look at all these people, and I think, what the heck am I doing here? They’ve made amazing things. I just went where I was sent.”
And I said, “Yes. But you were the first man on the moon. I think that counts for something.”
And I felt a bit better. Because if Neil Armstrong felt like an imposter, maybe everyone did. Maybe there weren’t any grown-ups, only people who had worked hard and also got lucky and were slightly out of their depth, all of us doing the best job we could, which is all we can really hope for.

En su tercer año, durante las pruebas de ese temido segundo filtro y mientras observaba a uno de los examinadores probar su plato, pudo sentir como el sudor frío resbalaba por su espalda.
Su madre había sido muy comprensiva con él, apoyándolo y motivándolo a seguir su sueño de convertirse en chef profesional, pero él sabía el enorme esfuerzo que suponía para ella conseguir el dinero para enviarlo a cada una de esas pruebas. Siendo una humilde lavandera, cada centavo que gastaba en su sueño era dinero que podían haber usado para comer un mes completo. Por eso, se había prometido a sí mismo que esta sería la última vez. Si no era seleccionado ese año, no volvería a intentarlo.
Ya había pasado por las pruebas regionales y, ahora, el momento de la verdad había llegado. Si conseguía pasar este filtro, su lugar en el programa estaría asegurado, al igual que su sueño de estudiar en una buena escuela, pues este reality, además de ofrecer bastante experiencia culinaria, también servía como plataforma para incorporarse a los más prestigiosos colegios de gastronomía del país. Se había preparado tanto para este momento, que casi podía sentir la ansiedad corriendo por sus venas.
El examinador terminó el bocado, lo miró en silencio, bajó la cuchara y avanzó hacia la siguiente estación. Sin decir una sola palabra respecto al plato de Luo Binghe. Los examinadores eran los mismos año tras año, por lo que ya los conocía a todos y sabía que no recibiría ningún comentario, sin embargo, no lograba acostumbrarse a la sensación de ser juzgado en cada visita.
Solo faltaba un examinador más, un último crítico que probaría su comida antes de que todo hubiera terminado y pudiera volver a respirar. El último chef siempre había sido particularmente difícil de tratar. Un hombre de edad avanzada que lo miraba con fastidio y, en el momento en que probaba sus platos, fruncía el ceño como si fuera lo peor que hubiera probado en la vida, tan solo para, inmediatamente después, alejarse entre murmullos sobre por qué los niños no deberían jugar en la cocina.
