Ok so. In light of the recent info that Max didn't want Sainz as his teammate, I understand but like. I also have my concerns.
First of all, if we're thinking practically, I understand why rb/max didn't want Sainz. Other than racing, Max would have to deal with the Spanish media, Sainz Sr and a teammate who would almost definitely at some point go against team orders and try to one up him. Which hey, this is f1, so wanting to win is part of the sport but I don't think that's what Redbull is looking for.
Redbull is a team built around Max, which is an arrangement that has worked out for them greatly. They need a second driver. A team player who won't be much of a problem to deal with and who will follow team orders and support Max and the team in the constructors.
Now, when the car was great, like the RB19, Checo fit this description to a T. Didn't get in Max's way and provided support when needed. But now, with the RB20 having been the way it is, it's been a complete and utter disaster on his part . He has the largest point gap to his teammate since Schumacher and Jos Verstappen.
And it seems that they're actually keeping Checo next year as well. Which, unless the car bounces back massively atleast to the RB19 level, I don't see how this is going to go well next year.
Which bring me to Yuki. He has outqualified both Daniel and Liam this year. I find the 'Yuki is too emotional' and the 'Yuki is undisciplined' excuse so stupid. Give Yuki that goddamn seat. They've made a decision that benefits the team structure by not hiring Sainz yes, but I can't shake the feeling that they've made a blunder by retaining Checo.
