Jim thinks life is boring, everyone is too ordinary, too predictable. Then Sherlock comes along and Jim finally meets someone like him, someone who is new, a breath of fresh air. Someone clever and who has the potentially of understanding him. He’s not alone anymore. Andrew Scott said both that Jim is a lonely person and that he finds comfort in their game, in the fact that Sherlock can challenge him.

I was just talking to a friend about this quote and I love it so much. Jim’s sadness in the “And no one ever will” bit breaks my heart every time. Anyway I love this scene because it shows that Sherlock is the closest thing to human contact that Jim has.
“I am you.” “You are me.”
They are the same. They aren’t just two sides of the same coin, they are the same person who has had different life experience and has chose a different side. So yeah, they are different but at the same time they are the same, they can understand each other like no one else can. Jim is everything Sherlock could have become without cases to solve and a supportive family.
“Oh. I can’t be the only person in the world that gets bored.”
Jim isn’t the one who is bored and needs distractions. Sherlock does as well. In season 1 is more evident, he even jumps around the room when he gets a new interesting case, says multiple times how fascinating, interesting, clever, brilliant Moriarty is. In season 2 he’s smiling during the case of the kidnapped children. In season 3 he says that cases are an alternative to get high and well, no one could ever create more brillaint crimes than Jim.

Flirting, flirting and even more flirting. Now, I don’t actually think that in canon Sherlock had a boner - well it could be and Jim probably did considering how thirtsty he’s. I think it just adds some… sensuality? eroticism? to their game. Yes, of course it’s purely intellectual and they barely touch, but brain stimulation for them is like foreplay.
Andrew: “In a way Sherlock and Moriarty love each other. There’s something other than hatred there, there’s respect.”
Now, using “love” and “hate” with them is a little weird because their relationship is very unusual so they just don’t sound appropriate, but anywaaaaaaayyyyy. The relationship between Sherlock and Jim is mutual. Comes from both sides. I’m not telling this only for this quote but for the show as well, I just thought that line could be a nice summary. They admire each other’s brain, they enjoy the game and they respect each other. Just think how Jim treats Sherlock versus how CAM treats Sherlock. And how Sherlock reacts: I mean he killed CAM while he never showed any interest in harming Moriarty, he even played and made tea for him.
Chemistry between Ben and Andrew, very erotic scenes and sexual tension.
Because c’mon, it’s almost impossible looking at their scene without saying “JUST KISS, PLEASE”. Which is why Gatiss decided to put the near kiss scene in the first place. Even if, at least in my opinion, there are a couple of moments (especially on the roof but not only, just think of Jim kissing the USB stick and they looking at each other in jail) that are way more erotic than an almost kiss.
