Random Questions: Dmitri

5. How easy is it to earn their mistrust?

I wouldn’t say Dmitri is suspicious of others. He’s a little judgmental, but he isn't going to be the one pointing fingers or even noticing qualities about others that should be red flags. 

7. What triggers nostalgia most for them? Do they enjoy that feeling?

The answer is music, 100%. When his parents were still together, they always had music playing in the house, a solid mix of their two tastes. Ultimately they blended together to create’s Dmitri’s taste. Dmitri remembers more about the music his mom liked than he remembers about her. Each track on his carefully assembled playlists mean something. They most often make him feel safe, which his parents always did despite how terrible they were otherwise. 

11. How do they cope with confusion? 

Instances of confusion don’t last long with Dmitri. He’s immediately on the hunt to find answers and put the pieces together. Confusion doesn’t sit well with him when he can’t find a solution/answers. He will be unable to focus on anything else until the problem at hand is solved. 

27. What causes them to feel dread? 

Being around people or being in situations where he cannot freely do what he wants. Dmitri is incredibly particular and will shutdown if he is not allowed to express himself without restraint. He has become familiar with groups of people and areas to avoid where this is an issue. Currently, Jorge is this kind of person for Dmitri. 

34. How hard is it for them to shake a sense of guilt? 

Not difficult whatsoever for this one. Dmitri is a logistical kid and emotions do not come as easily to him. Dmitri is not able to understand what it is to feel guilty. Everything he does is perfectly rationalized in his own head, even if that is not the case with anyone else.

Random Questions: Mateo

2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?

Mateo? MATEO? Boy is always making jokes that cause the stomachs of his friends to ache. He’s hilarious, due in part to the fact that there is not a border between his thoughts and his mouth. Laughter is a guarantee with Mateo Flores.

28. Would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth?

I would say yes. It isn’t that Mateo isn’t capable of handling the truth, he’s dealt with harsher realities before. He comes from a poor, struggling family and knows the power of clinging to whatever good you can find. Even if it is a lie, if it can keep him from being sorrowful or having to face something he fears, count him in. 

32. Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke?

Mateo leads a crazy life sometimes, which provides him with lots of stories to tell. In a room full of strangers or friends, his go-to story would probably be about the time he made a half-court shot during a basketball game in 7th grade. As far as jokes go, Mateo is spewing them constantly. He can’t take anything seriously.

38. What memory do they revisit the most often? 

What might be Mateo’s most important quality is his kindness. He is loving, accepts others, and you would be hard pressed to find someone that truly has something ill to say of him. This would be due in part to him being bullied during his preschool years, teased by the other kids for the quality of his clothes and the food packed for his lunch. It was the first time Mateo realized he was different from others. The teasing went on for awhile until an older kid overheard it and intervened, scolding the other kids and leaving Mateo with the message that no one should treat anyone poorly for no reason. Mateo has never forgotten this act of kindness, and it has shaped his views. 

40. How sensitive are they to their own flaws?

Mateo is a sensitive boy and nearly always the first one to cry, but he doesn’t think of himself in a negative light often due to the lesson he learned from the previous question. He is aware of his flaws, but he doesn’t allow them to be used as weapons against him unless something cuts really deep.

Random Questions: Elena

5. How easy it is to earn their mistrust?

Listen, Elena is already always looking to resolve conflict and keep the peace. If you threaten that peace? Give her a reason to think you aren’t to be trusted? You’re out, you’re done. It would be hard for her to give you the benefit of the doubt after failing her once. 

12. How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach?

Well. This is a weird question no matter who it’s directed at, but let’s just say discreetly. And on her own. 

33. Could they be considered lazy?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Elena is Vice President of NJHS and a member of the student council, the broadcasting team, the dance team, Spanish club, and has been in multiple school plays. On top of that, her mother makes her every chore known to man when she’s home. The only time Elena ever gets a break is that little part of the day right before she falls asleep. Time spent worried about the next day. 

36. Do they actively seek romance, or do they wait for it to fall into their lap? 

Elena doesn’t understand the fuss over middle school romance and is as distant from it as she can be. She’s got herself to focus on, not the sweaty and immature hooligans in her classes. 

42. How badly do they want to reach their end goal?

Funny thing is, Elena doesn’t know exactly what her end goal is! She badly wants to find out for herself, however. That’s the reason she’s stretched herself across every interest she’s ever had. She wants to find herself and find out what it is she can contribute to the world beyond being a wife and mother someday. She is determined to make her goals, whatever they may be, come to fruition.

Random Questions: Victor

2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?

It’s not that Victor doesn’t have a sense of humor. You’ll hardly see him crack a smile, let alone laugh, but that’s all apart of his self-image. Laughing is a display of happiness, and therefore a display of weakness. Weakness cannot be afforded. Plus, his actual friends could make him laugh plenty. These other kids aren’t funny even a little bit. 

17. Are they easily embarrassed?

Out of the entire five, Victor is without a doubt the most difficult to embarrass. It’s hard to make someone who doesn’t care what the world thinks of him feel shame or regret for his actions. 

26. What is their preferred mode of transportation?

He’s used to navigating the streets on late nights in the city, a king of them according to some. Victor is able to get anywhere on foot, making it his go-to means of getting where he needs to go. 

35. How do they treat the things their friends come to them excited about? Are they supportive?

Victor isn’t a natural-born leader, but his friends don’t follow after him for no reason at all. Victor validates others as long as they mind their space and show him respect. Sure, Victor is supporting activities like stealing from gas stations and jumping from overpasses, but he’s still supportive nonetheless. 

36. Do they actively seek romance, or do they wait for it to fall into their lap? 

Given that Victor is a 14-year-old boy, romance still looks like walking to class together in silence and after-school texting. He is never the pursuer though, and waits for interested parties to approach him.

Random Questions: Jorge

6. Do they consider laws flexible or immovable? 

Jorge is a rule-follower, told from a young age that breaking rules/laws was not permissible. He thinks ill of criminals and classmates who try and get away with troublemaking. He feels that they are beneath him. However, if breaking the law would work in his favor or to his advantage, he would be very likely to look the other way as long as the consequences weren’t too dire.

27. What causes them to feel dread?

A typical teenager, Jorge regularly dreads the work part of having to go to school. In his personal life, Jorge feels a great deal of dread surrounding anything that may potentially make his parents proud, be it a tournament-winning game or getting the results back on semester tests. Being perfect in their eyes means a great deal to him, despite the toll it takes on him. 

33. Could they be considered lazy?

No, and absolutely no one would say he is. Jorge is far too active in the community and with school to be seen as lazy. 

35. How do they treat the things their friends come to them excited about? Are they supportive?

He can be dismissive and very, “I don’t like when we are not about me.” While Jorge is supportive by showing-up and congratulating his friends on their accomplishments, his head is honestly too far up his own ass to care in more than a minimal way. 

37. Do they have a system for remembering names, long lists of numbers, things that need to go in a certain order (like anagrams, putting things to melodies, etc)? 

Not typically. Jorge may resort to using anagrams for studying purposes, but those disappear from his brain the moment he doesn’t need them anymore. He has a pretty good memory.

Hello! I'd like to share with you a character work game! I call it "Six Secrets" and honestly it's a work in progress but I'm sharing it anyway

List six secrets that your character has.

1 is an open secret

2 is a secret the people close to your character know

3 is a secret that your character wouldn't really care about getting out

4 is a secret exactly one person knows anything about

5 is a secret no one knows about but they sort of want to come out/to tell someone

6 is a secret no one knows and they desperately don't want anyone to know about.

You can also decide who knows and how

The secrets don't have to have anything to do with your actual plot! The secrets can have super low or super high stakes! It doesn't matter! But you will absolutely have a better idea of your character's intentions and state of mind, and you may wind up coming up with some new plot points/obstacles to play with
