I had my first gig back after four months due to COVID. To be honest I was still quite apprehensive about playing and being out and about and I’m a little bit glad there’s nothing else in the diary yet, safety wise. Having said that, it was SUCH a fun gig, and big thanks to the @clarendonhotel and everyone there who was so supportive. I could pash anyone who works at @apraamcos >> they brought forward this year’s royalty payments because of the pandemic. The MEAA @withmeaa and @australianmusicians are helping me recover gig money that has been unpaid from a year ago >> shout out to @lemongrovehotelwallsend, we’re coming for the $$! I love @the.hubstudio for acting classes, and they are also offering plenty of free and paid seminars to offer support in this time. ArtFront offers Little Lunch Online lol.com.au >> daily discussions with a variety of artists and arts orgs, locally to internationally. And spoiler alert, I am working for them as a live captioner >> they trusted that important job for accessibility to go to artists to help our cash flow during this time that we’ve lost most of our work. And I came across @apam_office and attended one of their seminars which was so good in connecting with others in similar situations >> they are based in VIC but when they realised I was a NSW girl they still didn’t kick me out! I’ll be live captioning for one of their events on Wednesday. It can feel so isolating as a creative, but the lockdown has brought me to so many arts organisations around the country that I might not have known about or engaged with otherwise >> and it makes me proud to be part of the arts sector, and help know my value and worth as an artist and worker. It’s in some people’s best interests to make us feel alone, but you don’t have to be. Join the union, engage with these organisations, talk with people with the same struggles and achievements as you.
