Identity is extremely important to our personal brand success. One of my favourite Australian Aboriginal proverbs is “Those who have lost dreaming are lost.”#SurvivorDay I would like to acknowledge that I am on the traditional lands of the people of the Bundjalung Nation and I pay my respect to Elders both past, present and future. As a Foster Carer I was exposed to the trauma and stigma that resulted from the #stolengeneration experience. So I understand why #SurvivorDay is so important. And I know #InvasionDay is an accurate sentiment as the mother of my foster children is one of the last remaining people of her tribe. Sadly there is also a disproportionate number of indigenous children in out of home care which is at a crisis level and our needs attention and empathy. When you shop First Nations-owned businesses you support a network of growers, gatherers, producers and makers that extends far beyond the business itself. Not only that, but you help drive demand for authentic Indigenous goods and designs, and support Aboriginal self-determination in the process. #Repost @signsofyouridentity with @repostapp ・・・ Marjorie Winphil's birth certificate. Like most members of the stolen generation, her name was changed when she was taken away from her family. Sometimes it was because white Australians had a difficult time understanding Aboriginal names, but often it was explicitly meant to obfuscate a child's identity and family ties so that it would be more difficult to locate relatives later in life. Marjorie's new surname, Winphil, comes from a portmanteau of her mother's name, Winnie, and the town where she was born, Phillip Creek. #signsofyouridentity #stolengeneration
