She quietly walked beside Mark towards his apartment.  There was no need to say anything else.  Not right now anyways as they both knew what was likely to happen when they got back to his place.  Lexie smiled softly when his hand brushed against hers.  Had he meant to do that or had it been a complete accident?  

She nodded her thanks as he allowed her to enter the apartment first.  She leaned down and untied her sneakers and then set her bag by the door.  She smiled as Mark came closer to her.  Lexie nodded her head when he asked not to fight.  She didn’t love fighting with him, but it seemed to be the pattern they had fallen into with this arrangement.  “Okay,” she agreed softly before leaning up to press her lips back to his.  Her arms wound around his neck pulling him closer as she opened her mouth for him.  

Mark wound his arms around Lexie's waist completely, pulling her body flush against his. He rolled his hips slowly against her, nibbling on her bottom lip. He walked her backwards until her back was pressed against the counter, moving one hand up to cup her cheek. It seemed like this was the only thing that Mark and Lexie knew how to do normally. Intimacy had never been an issue for them. Even when they weren't together, Mark always felt connected to Lexie when they were being intimate. It tore him apart that she didn't want to be with him, but he had to push his emotions to the side so that he didn't lose this all together.

Mark slid his tongue inside her mouth, pressing his hard length against her thigh. He slipped his hand up under her shirt, resting his palm on her lower back. The older man pulled back slightly, leaning his forehead against Lexie's. "It's only you, Lex. Okay?" he whispered, pausing to wait for her answer before reconnecting their lips. He lifted her up so that she was sitting on the counter, resting his hands against her thighs.

the rest of theo’s shift had been even longer than the beginning of it. after what felt like non-stop calls, she had a shower at the station before making her way over to joe’s. if anything was gonna help her mood at this point, it was a few drinks and some good company. padding inside, she quickly find mark sitting by the bar, a small grin on her face as she sat down next to him. “you look better in scrubs honestly.”

Mark had made his way to Joe's after work, ordering himself a scotch. He wasn't sure if Theo would actually show up, but he was hopeful. He heard a voice next to his, immediately identifying it as Theo's. "Ouch, I'm hurt," he teased, placing a hand over his heart. The older man turned to look at her, ushering for her to take a seat. "What are you drinking?" he smiled, holding up a hand for Joe to come over and take her order. "How was the rest of your shift?" Mark asked, taking a sip of his scotch.

She knew it wasn’t the best attitude to have at work but she saw no reason to hide it. She was fairly certain she wouldn’t be alone. “Is Joe’s the local then? Where everyone goes after stopping work?”

"You never know what's going to come in, so it keeps you on your toes," Mark mused with a shrug, taking a sip of his coffee. "Have you met any of the other trauma attendings yet?" he questioned, crossing his arms. Recently, there had been an influx of new surgeons that arrived at Seattle Grace that even Mark wasn't sure if he knew all of their names. "It is, it's convenient being right across from the hospital. And everyone knows the owner," he chuckled sheepishly, basically having admitted that he and quite a few of his coworkers went to Joe's often.

“You should be, creep.” Of course, she was teasing. His attention actually made her feel less bad about herself than she usually felt, but not by much. Not that she would tell someone how shitty she was starting to feel about herself, they would all start to pretend to care and that was the last thing that the younger woman wanted. Soon though, she was back to tuning into what Mark was talking about, a deep smirk against her features. “Well, if you talk about it any louder, someone might.. plus one day one of us is going to fall asleep after and then we’ll have to come into work together. It’s a horrible idea.” Okay, that much she knew but was she planning on stopping? Not if Mark didn’t want to. Soon though, her eyes rolled slightly, “you do realize isn’t like 6 am, right? Not even I’m that horny, it’s like still dark out. Sorry buddy.” And then, the grin was back, a sigh coming from her lips. “Hm, nah. I was out last night, didn’t exactly wanna search through my … friends cupboards. It was a wake up, remember how ugly he is in the light, get out situation. The sex thing is pretty tempting now that you’ve got me thinking of tylenol though, pretty sure it’d release enough endorphins to get me through hours with your best friend. Who.. by thee way is such a pompous jackass. I don’t know why you like him so much.”

"Come on, love. Would a rumor about us sleeping together really be the worst thing that ever happened at Seattle Grace?" Mark questioned, arching his brows in amusement, though he knew if that rumor was started, he would have explaining to do to Derek and Lexie, and Lexie would be a bigger pain in the ass to deal with than Derek. "No one would know that we were sleeping together if we came in to work together," he said with a shake of his head. He had always been careful to not sleep over at Amelia's because he didn't want either one of them catching feelings. He didn't think that they would, but he wanted to be on the safe side. He feared that he would end up hurting her, and she didn't deserve that. The difference with Lexie was he knew how not to hurt her, but with Amy, he wouldn't want to risk it. He knew her well, but he never saw himself in a relationship with her. "So, how about I get you some Tylenol and we do a quickie? Bet the guy you were with wasn't anything compared to me," he said with a cheeky smile, leading her into the attending's lounge so that he could grab her some medication. "He's not that bad, Amy. Just get him talking about himself and his accomplishments. He won't even think about criticizing you then."

“you know, something things never change with you. i swear, sometimes i think we’re back in college. the only difference is we aren’t twenty something anymore.” addison smirked finishing her glass of wine and then leaning back against her seat, watching all the interns around them in the bar. “it’s crazy to think we were once, just like them. where did all that time go?”

"I have no idea. It seems like it was so long ago," Mark replied, holding his glass of scotch in his right hand. His mind wandered back to his and Addison's intern days, thinking about how different everything was back then. At that point, he hadn't tarnished his relationship with his best friend, and his feelings for Addison were buried deep down inside him. Luckily, since his and Addison's indiscretions, he was able to repair his friendship with Derek, and they were back to being best friends. He and Addison were friends again, as well, though he couldn't help but flirt with her. "What have I done now?" Mark chuckled, shaking his head in amusement as he took a sip of his scotch. "I'm just sitting here with a beautiful woman, having an innocent conversation. Nothing wrong with that," he mused, arching his brows. "If we were back in college, I would be trying to get as many girls as I could."

Lexie huffed and rolled her shoulders back.  They were never going to see the situation the same.  She reached for her drink and took another sip, not really wanting to have an argument with Mark.  She hated arguing with him even though it seemed like it was their favorite hobby.  Then, he was looking at her, saying all the things any woman would want to hear.  She smiled softly up at him.  “Okay,” she agreed quietly.  Lexie motioned Joe for her tab, and she quickly signed the receipt and pulled her jacket back on.  She went to reach for Mark’s hand but quickly pulled her hand back.  They weren’t together.  

Mark led Lexie out of the bar, falling in step beside her as they began the short walk back to his apartment. He kept his hands in his pockets, glancing over at Lexie to see if she was okay. The older man hated having the same argument. He couldn't change the past, and neither could Lexie. But, she was always bringing it up. He made his apologies to Lexie, as well as to everyone else that was involved in those situations. There wasn't anything more that he could do. Yet, the same argument was constantly presenting itself. He sighed, removing one of his hands and let it brush against her arm as they entered into the building.

After taking the elevator upstairs, Mark unlocked his apartment, holding the door open for Lexie to enter first. He shut and locked the door behind him, slipping off his shoes. The blue eyed man approached Lexie, settling his hands on her hips. "Let's not fight," he requested, his voice softer than it had been in the bar. He leaned down, placing his lips against hers, drawing her hips in closer to his. This is what he wanted, all he ever wanted. To be with Lexie, to have her with him. He wanted her to come home. But, he had to remind himself they weren't together. Mark parted his lips, swiping his tongue against her bottom lip with a content hum.

“oh, i’m sure you could get rid of some gallstones if you really wanted to, hey? or are you too busy being buried in boob jobs?” theo grinned as she watched the nurses taking her patient to the right post, soon crossing her arms as she returned her attention to mark. “somehow i don’t doubt that for a single second.” she smirked as she started getting the ambulance stretcher ready for a new call. mark was fun to be around. she didn’t really mind how flirty he was either. it was just fun to mess around with him. he was good company after all. a small groan left her as a voice came on through her radio. “shit.” theo sighed, looking up at the surgeon. “saved by the bell, i guess.” after mumbling something about being on it into the radio, she gave him an apologizing smile, tilting her head. “hey – drinks after work?”

"Plastics is much more than just boob jobs," Mark stated with a frown, crossing his own arms in defense. "Though the boob jobs are an added bonus," he murmured, breaking out into a bright smile. "I could do that, yes. We're all trained in general surgery. Will I do it when we have several perfectly capable general surgeons here in the hospital? No," the surgeon added, eyeing one as she passed by. He yelled out, directing her to go to the bay that the patient was in. Mark turned back to Theo, slightly annoyed when her pager had gone off. The one thing that was making Mark feel better these days was to know that he still had the same affect on women that he always had. He smiled a bit brighter when she mentioned drinks, nodding his head. "Of course, I'm buying," he winked, grabbing a new patient chart as he prepared to leave. "See you later, Theo," he said smoothly, walking backwards for a few moments before turning around to disappear down the hallway.

Every-time, Amelia knew she shouldn’t go there but a part of her always found herself flirting with Mark, and on occasion much more than that. If her brother ever found out, he’d probably kill them both but that was hardly what the youngest Shepherd was worried about now. “Hey, watch it. Someone might hear you, report you for sexual harassment,” but then a smirk fell across her features, short legs easily keeping up with him. “I don’t mind though, whatever.” Was her head still pounding? Would she still kill the next person to look at her funny? Totally. “Just a headache, I might just die.” she pouted slightly before a snort escaped her now upturned brims. “Whatever helps you sleep at night, Sloan. Where are you taking me anyway? I’ve got a surgery with dumbass Derek in forty minutes, he’ll bully me if I’m late.”

"Oh, I'm sooo worried," Mark teased, looking around to play along with her game of someone seeing. After a few seconds of that, he turned back to her with a smug smile. "I think the coast is clear, Amy. I don't see anyone around that would suspect a thing. Besides, who would ever think I would dare to sleep with my best friend's youngest sister?" he grinned, taking a sip of his coffee as he continued to walk her down the hallway. "I was thinking we could do a quickie in an on-call room," he said point-blank, though his voice was laced with his teasing demeanor. If Amelia did want that, though, there was no denying that Mark would do it. "You let me worry about Derek," Mark sighed, removing his arm from around her shoulder, instead shoving it in his lab coat pocket. He turned a bit more serious as she mentioned her headache. "Did you take anything for it?" he questioned, pressing his lips together. He knew the relationship dynamic between Amelia and Derek, and worried that if Amelia had a headache now, she would have a piercing migraine when she left the OR. That wouldn't be good for either sibling, nor anyone that had to work with them for the remainder of the day.

“Oh far away from any patients on my own private yacht.” Marion said with a small laugh. She did enjoy her job but she’d never been too much of a people person if she was honest. She was glad he didn’t seem to be put off by her honest. When he began to flirt she was surprised for a moment before her smile brightened. “Would you indeed? And where would you take me first?”

"Not liking your job today?" Mark questioned with an arch of his brows. While he did have those days where he was frustrated with patients or surgeries, he knew that he would miss his job if he left for a long vacation. "Hmm, well there's a lovely bar across the street called Joe's," the man teased, shrugging his shoulders. "The space needle is a must see, too," the surgeon added with a shrug. He never was much for sightseeing, especially in Seattle. When he did do touristy things, it was with Lexie, which made him hate sightseeing a little less.

Kathleen’s eyes widened as she heard a familiar voice of her own, only stopping her head from shooting up in shock by a few seconds. No, no, no. She did not need Mark’s help right now. She didn’t need anybody’s help, ever. Certainly not to do her job. Sure, the results were confusing but it wasn’t as if she was reading them wrong. He couldn’t help…unless he could. But she wasn’t going to even consider that possibility. Perhaps she still had time to hide? Except that it was clear he’d recognised her, and she wasn’t sure that she could pull off that she hadn’t heard him. Particularly not while he was standing right in front of her. “Mark,” She said with a sharp nod, although she hadn’t been able to hold back the hint of affection in her greeting. She rolled her eyes as she watched his land on her stomach, although she’d allow him some grace. After all, it was getting harder and harder to miss. “Yeah, the third trimester glow has really kicked in.” Her face had filled out slightly as her body had grown, and although most days she didn’t feel it, she’d had plenty of patients telling her that pregnancy suited her. She was happy it did, was grateful for this pregnancy that had been easier in every other way than her last. Still, she was hoping their little girl would make appearance sooner rather than later. She shook her head as she pulled back from the hug, which she’d never admit that she’d rather been enjoying. “Oh no, it’s just a tox report,” She refuted, her eyes glancing back over the troubling data, “Just not seeing what I was expecting to.”

Mark furrowed his brows at Kathleen's response, not sure if it was because she was having some issue with something else or if she was off-put by seeing him. "I didn't even know you were pregnant. Derek never mentioned it," he stated, crossing his arms over his chest. He hadn't seen Kathleen in years, so to say that he was surprised that the first time he saw her again she was sporting a very pregnant belly, would be an understatement. "How far along are you?" he questioned, grateful that she had been willing to give him a hug. Mark didn't allow his eyes to wander back down to her stomach for the rest of their conversation, not sure if she was comfortable with him staring at. Usually, if something made her uncomfortable, Mark would love to point it out and continue to mock her about it, but he knew that this situation was one where he should not do that. "Ahh," he said with a nod, glancing back over at her computer which contained the report. "About one of your patients?" he guessed, shoving his hands into his lab coat pockets. He never had the pleasure of working with Kathleen, but from what he heard through the grapevine, she was an excellent doctor. No surprise, really, since all the Shepherd children were amazing doctors. "Besides being pregnant, how's life been treating you? I haven't heard from you in ages."

A bright smile took over the younger surgeons features at the sound of Mark’s voice. She’d practically grown up with him and he never treated her as shitty as her sisters did, so at a young age she’d for sure grown attached. “You know me, such a morning person!” she teased, her voice clearly more chipper than it had been just a second before. Messing around with Mark was half of the fun sometimes, and it made most of the family uncomfortable so that was a bonus for sure. “Oh yeah? Looking at what?” she teased, eyes playfully rolling. “Do whatever you want, dude.”

Mark let out a small chuckle, shaking his head in amusement. He didn't know if Amelia had asked her question intending to make it sound sexual. Even if she hadn't, that's how he took it. "Your ass," he said blankly, sending a wink in her direction. "Nothing wrong with that, now is there?" he teased, grabbing his coffee from the barista once his name was called. "I've done it plenty of times, Amy," he grinned, throwing his arm around her as he began to lead her away from the coffee cart so that others could order. "What has you in such a great mood this morning?" Mark questioned, hinting at what her tone was like before she realized that it was him. Even after sleeping with Amelia, multiple times for that matter, the older surgeon always kept an eye on her to the best of his ability. He never liked to see her sad or upset, and if he could, he would do what had to in order to make her happy. "Your day must be improving since I'm the first face you saw, yeah?" he teased, squeezing her shoulder lightly.

Mark had just been leaving the lounge to go do night rounds on a few of his patients when he saw Arizona come into the room. Judging by her demeanor, he figured something had happened, and when she said she didn’t want to talk about it, that only further proved his suspicions. "Then don't talk about it," he stated, taking a seat beside the usually upbeat surgeon. "Tough day?" he guessed, resting his elbows on his thighs, turning to look in Arizona's direction.

“great,” she said. it wasn’t like she was an alcoholic but tequila was something like a beer for others. making herself comfortable at the stool, she thanked joe for the drink and stook the glass into her hand. “right?! is seattle new new york?” saying this, she didn’t wait for any answer and raised her glass. “so cheers!”  

Mark let out a small chuckle, shrugging his shoulders. "Don't know, but I doubt it. I came from New York, and trust me, this is nothing like New York," Mark muttered, surprised at how quickly Meredith raised her glass. He wasn't even able to finish his sentence before the glass with tequila was in the air. He picked up his scotch, clinking her glass. "Cheers," he stated, taking a sip of his scotch. "What's new with you, Meredith? I don't get all the gory details anymore since Lexie and I aren't together," he said, disguising his hurt about the Lexie situation by taking another drink.

Lexie heard the grumble from him and rolled her eyes.  She was grateful Mark couldn’t see her.  She set her glass down with a tiny thud at his remark.  She didn’t want him.  Yeah right.  “No, I wanted you to stop making decisions for me.  I don’t even get a say on 2.5 kids and a white picket fence because you already have that,” she said, keeping her voice low.  They didn’t need the entire bar knowing their business.  Hell, Lexie was pretty sure very few knew of their present arrangement because they would say it was a bad idea.  Lexie knew it was, but didn’t care.  “So I do want you.  This has nothing to do with me not wanting you,” she assured him.  She smirked a little bit at his next comment.  Lexie sucked on her bottom lip and turned to look at him.  “Yeah?”

"I made a decision for you once, Lexie, and that was a mistake. With Sofia, I didn't decide anything for you. I wanted you there, and still do, but you didn't want that. So don't put this blame on me," Mark growled, finishing off his scotch. This woman would be the death of him. She frustrated the hell out of him, made him want to pull his hair out, and made his anger rise to unknown levels, but he loved her more than anything. She was all he wanted, and he just wished she wanted the same thing. Honestly, he wasn't sure how much longer he would be able to keep their present arrangement going. He turned to look at her, anger melting, and pulled her bottom lip out from her teeth. "Yes, Lex. I only have eyes for you. You're the one I stop to look at. You're the one I look for whenever I enter a room. You're my person, Little Grey," Mark said, shoving his hands into his pockets. "I'm going home. You coming?" he asked, throwing a tip on the counter for the both of them.

Lexie drummed her fingers against the counter as she kept her eyes on Joe, pouring their drinks.  It was easier than looking at Mark.  If she just stared at the man for too long, her heart was likely to turn into a puddle, and that was a feeling she hated.  Because a second later?  He would give her that stupid sideways smile.  “So yeah, it was a good day that passed quickly,” Lexie acknowledged, glancing over at him.  She raised an eye brow when he mentioned the new doctors that were working at the hospital.  “Yeah, I suppose there is,” she said with a nod.  She had worked with a few of them, and enjoyed learning from them.  New doctors, new beautiful female doctors meant an easy way for Mark to change their present arrangement.  Joe brought their drinks over a moment later, and Lexie raised her glass, taking a long sip.  “That must be really great for you,” she mumbled staring straight ahead.  

Hearing Lexie's remark caused a low grumble to form deep in Mark's throat. She was the one who initiated this entire arrangement. He had made it clear from the beginning that she was the only one he wanted, but she hadn't wanted him back. Instead, she was with Jackson for a time. And even though he and Lexie were sleeping together fairly regularly now, he wasn't tied down to her, so there was no reason that he couldn't let his eyes wander. "Don't do that. You're the one that didn't want me, remember?" he said with a low tone, eyes glancing her direction with a mixture of pain and anger. Mark quickly looked back at his drink, taking another sip. "My eyes haven't been on anyone but you in years, Lex," he said a little softer this time, letting out a sigh.

Kathleen had always been an internal thinker, an internal person all together actually. Despite her chosen profession, her encouraging her patients and anybody else who listened to talk about their problems, she’d always dealt with them herself. She’d process everything inside, even if she knew that it only led to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Probably because she hadn’t went to therapy. Do as I say not as I do. However, this wasn’t a big personal problem. Not something she had to keep to herself, work out how to deal with it and then probably fail at doing so. It was just a tox screen that was confusing her. Still, the muttering out loud was uncharacteristic. “This doesn’t make sense,” She said quietly, without even meaning to, but clear enough to be heard.

Mark had been walking through the hall when he heard a familiar voice, making him stop dead in his tracks. It was a voice that he used to hear a lot, but hadn't heard much in more recent years. Still, he would recognize that voice anywhere. "Kathleen?" he stated, turning on his heel to walk back to where the brunette beauty was standing. "My gosh, look at you," he stated, surprised to see her large belly. H knew that it was rude to stare or to ask about it, so he bit his tongue, trailing his eyes back up to her face. "Still beautiful as ever," he grinned, opening his arms for a hug. Mark looked over her shoulder, eyeing briefly what she was looking at. "What doesn't make sense? Maybe I can help," he offered, snapping his eyes back to hers. He didn't want to look too long at what was on the screen, in case she didn't want his help or in case the information on the screen was private.
