Sleeping Habits: Lexie is lucky if she sleeps five hours each night.  Life as a surgical resident who wants to have a social life ensures sleep is one of the last things on her mind.  

Eating Habits: Lexie is the one who would eat Peanut Butter Cups and juice boxes for lunch if she could sustain that forever.  She eats whatever is good in the cafeteria or whatever she can find in the fridge at the frat house.  She doesn’t have time to cook for herself, but bake?  She will make time for that especially if the recipe involves peanut butter and chocolate.  

Exercise Habits: Lexie is likely to be found in a Zumba class 3 times a week, and has tried Yoga a handful of times.  

Emotional Stability: It depends on the day.  Lexie can be the hardest person you meet, or she can be down in the dumps, especially if she has just broken up with her on again, off again boyfriend, Mark Sloan. She does always try to have a positive and happy demeanor for her patients.

 THE LAST SIX MONTHS

·         After leaving Mark at the vending machine and telling him she wanted to be happy, Lexie focused solely on her relationship with Jackson.  She didn’t even look Mark’s way for close to three months, but one night after a long and successful surgery with Mark, she fell off the Mark Sloan reform wagon.  

·         After dealing with the plane crash victims, Lexie realized she needed to start therapy again.  She began seeing Kathleen Shepherd weekly, but does not discuss falling into Mark’s bed with her.  Ever.  

·         After a night with Mark, Lexie realized how much it wasn’t working with Jackson.  They mutually agreed to break it off, but Lexie told herself she was not going to see Mark either.  She needed to learn to be happy on her own.  

·         For a little bit, Lexie focused her time solely on work and spending time with Zola, who she absolutely adores.  

·         Once again though, Lexie and Mark have fallen into their same patterns, but this time? They have both declared no feelings involved.

A small giggle escaped her lips as the other surgeon’s hips rolled into hers.  She eagerly stepped back to the places he was leading her, feeling her back gently push against the counter a moment later.  Lexie’s fingers moved into his hair, tugging gently as they remained lip locked.  This was the thing they did well.  The thing they never fought over.  

Lexie shivered when his hand came in contact with her back.  She sighed contently.  Having Mark this close and being in his embrace always made her feel better.  It’s only you.  Her heart soared.  It seemed like it was always going to be her for Mark, and honestly?  She wasn’t angry about it.  She enjoyed knowing that.  “Okay,” she agreed softly.  She squealed against his lips as he lifted her onto the counter, her arms still tightly wound around him.  Lexie reached for his shirt, tugging it up his body before pulling back to pull the shirt over his head.  She tossed it to the floor, grinning at him.

Mark led Lexie out of the bar, falling in step beside her as they began the short walk back to his apartment. He kept his hands in his pockets, glancing over at Lexie to see if she was okay. The older man hated having the same argument. He couldn’t change the past, and neither could Lexie. But, she was always bringing it up. He made his apologies to Lexie, as well as to everyone else that was involved in those situations. There wasn’t anything more that he could do. Yet, the same argument was constantly presenting itself. He sighed, removing one of his hands and let it brush against her arm as they entered into the building.

After taking the elevator upstairs, Mark unlocked his apartment, holding the door open for Lexie to enter first. He shut and locked the door behind him, slipping off his shoes. The blue eyed man approached Lexie, settling his hands on her hips. “Let’s not fight,” he requested, his voice softer than it had been in the bar. He leaned down, placing his lips against hers, drawing her hips in closer to his. This is what he wanted, all he ever wanted. To be with Lexie, to have her with him. He wanted her to come home. But, he had to remind himself they weren’t together. Mark parted his lips, swiping his tongue against her bottom lip with a content hum.

She quietly walked beside Mark towards his apartment.  There was no need to say anything else.  Not right now anyways as they both knew what was likely to happen when they got back to his place.  Lexie smiled softly when his hand brushed against hers.  Had he meant to do that or had it been a complete accident?  

She nodded her thanks as he allowed her to enter the apartment first.  She leaned down and untied her sneakers and then set her bag by the door.  She smiled as Mark came closer to her.  Lexie nodded her head when he asked not to fight.  She didn’t love fighting with him, but it seemed to be the pattern they had fallen into with this arrangement.  “Okay,” she agreed softly before leaning up to press her lips back to his.  Her arms wound around his neck pulling him closer as she opened her mouth for him.

“Oh I’m not one for getting lost. Pretend you know where you’re going and no one ever finds out.” Marion said with a small smirk leaving it uncertain whether she was joking or not. “You’ll have to forgive me I trained in the UK. Is this your fifth year then?”

Lexie chuckled at the woman’s philosophy.  It was a good one, and would reduce the number of encounters where you had to explain you were new.  “No.  I’m a fourth year,” Lexie said softly.  “The UK huh?  How long have you been stateside?”

Addison didn’t mind if the residents who were close to her called her by her first name, plus she felt like she knew more about Lexie than the brunette probably knew about her. “Exactly. I’m glad you understand that. Sounds like you’ll do good working in OB.” the brunette smiled and then flipped the pages through the chart, noting the high blood pressure. “That would make the high blood pressure make sense. We need to keep an eye on that before surgery. If you would mind checking it every hour, i’d like for it to go down. Otherwise, her vitals and the baby’s look great.” 

Lexie nodded when Addison asked her to check their patient’s blood pressure every hour.  “I can do that,” Lexie confirmed with a nod.  She smiled at the compliment from the other woman.  Even if OB wasn’t her favorite, she still wanted to impress her attending.  That was something that was never going to change.  “Anything else?” she asked.

“anyone who would like to get rid of some gallstones, honestly. at least that’s what we think it is. you should probably get her an ultrasound to check it out though. if you’re lucky – you might have a surgery here.” theo gave the woman a smile, nodding at her question. “a drink or eight sounds really good right about now, so that’s the plan. you heading over?” it had been a minute since theo had been out for drinks. with the long shifts she had been pulling recently, going out had been the last thing on her mind. thankfully, nugget had been dropped off at a friend’s, so she wouldn’t have to worry about her for the night at least. “you’d think anyone working in healthcare would know how to avoid it, but i guess not even doctors are that smart.”

“Ultrasound it is,” Lexie confirmed with a nod as she took a pen out of her breast pocket and made a note on the chart.  Lexie wasn’t going to lie, seeing the inside of the OR would be nice, especially if it came from a case she had randomly picked up.  “Probably so.  It’s been a long day.  Maybe I’ll see you there?” she offered.  There was always the chance that either of them could get caught up in something related to their specific work.  Lexie chuckled at the last comment.  “We never learn,” she winked.

To see the smile on the youngest Grey’s face, Amelia sighed in relief. She would kill for something to eat. Rule number one, never eat at a one night stands house, even if she did want to steal some of this frosted flakes on her way out. “You’re the best. I’m doing a surgery with Derek, but I’ll see if I can get you in, as a thanks for the food.” With that, she unwrapped one, popping it into her mouth.

Even though she would have liked a more solid answer, it was one she was willing to accept in exchange for her peanut butter cups.  “Thank you,” Lexie said honestly, rocking back on her heels.  It would be good to scrub in with Derek and Amelia again, and those surgeries always came with a high entertainment value.

“I made a decision for you once, Lexie, and that was a mistake. With Sofia, I didn’t decide anything for you. I wanted you there, and still do, but you didn’t want that. So don’t put this blame on me,” Mark growled, finishing off his scotch. This woman would be the death of him. She frustrated the hell out of him, made him want to pull his hair out, and made his anger rise to unknown levels, but he loved her more than anything. She was all he wanted, and he just wished she wanted the same thing. Honestly, he wasn’t sure how much longer he would be able to keep their present arrangement going. He turned to look at her, anger melting, and pulled her bottom lip out from her teeth. “Yes, Lex. I only have eyes for you. You’re the one I stop to look at. You’re the one I look for whenever I enter a room. You’re my person, Little Grey,” Mark said, shoving his hands into his pockets. “I’m going home. You coming?” he asked, throwing a tip on the counter for the both of them.

Lexie huffed and rolled her shoulders back.  They were never going to see the situation the same.  She reached for her drink and took another sip, not really wanting to have an argument with Mark.  She hated arguing with him even though it seemed like it was their favorite hobby.  Then, he was looking at her, saying all the things any woman would want to hear.  She smiled softly up at him.  “Okay,” she agreed quietly.  Lexie motioned Joe for her tab, and she quickly signed the receipt and pulled her jacket back on.  She went to reach for Mark’s hand but quickly pulled her hand back.  They weren’t together.

arizona more or less threw her scrub cap on the floor after she’d lost yet another patient, the second that day. she sat on the bench in the locker room and huffed, she sometimes wondered why she still did this job. “ i really don’t want to talk about it. ” she mumbled as someone approached on her left.

“We don’t have too, but we do need you in OR 3,” Lexie explained.  She had spent the last 10 minutes searching for Arizona only to find her hiding out in the locker room, likely after a bad outcome if the comment of not wanting to talk about it was any indication.  “Dr. Bailey requested you specifically.”

it was impossible to overlook a person like lexie. she was a ray of sunshine. she was her sister and mer was so glad for that. “so what is happening here? what are we drinking? is here still some alcohol left?” she joked as she took off her jacket and sat down next to her.  

“It’s a bar.  Of course there is alcohol left,” Lexie protested.  Plus, she had only arrived 10 minutes before.  “How are you?  How was your day?” she asked quickly, always interested to hear how her sister was doing.

Hearing Lexie’s remark caused a low grumble to form deep in Mark’s throat. She was the one who initiated this entire arrangement. He had made it clear from the beginning that she was the only one he wanted, but she hadn’t wanted him back. Instead, she was with Jackson for a time. And even though he and Lexie were sleeping together fairly regularly now, he wasn’t tied down to her, so there was no reason that he couldn’t let his eyes wander. “Don’t do that. You’re the one that didn’t want me, remember?” he said with a low tone, eyes glancing her direction with a mixture of pain and anger. Mark quickly looked back at his drink, taking another sip. “My eyes haven’t been on anyone but you in years, Lex,” he said a little softer this time, letting out a sigh.

Lexie heard the grumble from him and rolled her eyes.  She was grateful Mark couldn’t see her.  She set her glass down with a tiny thud at his remark.  She didn’t want him.  Yeah right.  “No, I wanted you to stop making decisions for me.  I don’t even get a say on 2.5 kids and a white picket fence because you already have that,” she said, keeping her voice low.  They didn’t need the entire bar knowing their business.  Hell, Lexie was pretty sure very few knew of their present arrangement because they would say it was a bad idea.  Lexie knew it was, but didn’t care.  “So I do want you.  This has nothing to do with me not wanting you,” she assured him.  She smirked a little bit at his next comment.  Lexie sucked on her bottom lip and turned to look at him.  “Yeah?”

Kathleen had always been an internal thinker, an internal person all together actually. Despite her chosen profession, her encouraging her patients and anybody else who listened to talk about their problems, she’d always dealt with them herself. She’d process everything inside, even if she knew that it only led to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Probably because she hadn’t went to therapy. Do as I say not as I do. However, this wasn’t a big personal problem. Not something she had to keep to herself, work out how to deal with it and then probably fail at doing so. It was just a tox screen that was confusing her. Still, the muttering out loud was uncharacteristic. “This doesn’t make sense,” She said quietly, without even meaning to, but clear enough to be heard.

Lexie rounded the corner and was surprised to see her therapist standing there, reviewing some paperwork.  Did she say hello?  Did she pretend she hadn’t seen Kathleen?  “Hi Dr. Shepherd,” she greeted before she could actually decide on the best course of action.  “How are you feeling?” she asked.  It was the polite question to ask even if she knew what the response would be.

“Don’t apologise I’d really rather not work another case right now.” Marion knew that trauma was always a busy discipline but she’d been away from the hospital setting for years and was finding the adjustment harder than she’d expected. “I’m settling in fine thank you. How long have you worked here?”

Lexie nodded and stuffed her hands into the pockets of her lab coat.  She completely understood that feeling.  “That’s good.  It is a big place and can get confusing.  A lot of people in my intern class got lost for months,” she explained in an attempt to make conversation with the other.  Lexie was sure she would have gotten lost in the hospital as well if not for her photographic memory.  “Since I was an intern.  And I’m a fourth year now.”

Grinning at the sight of little grey as everyone seemed to call her around here, Amelia nodded in her direction. “Morning, Lexie..” voice came out softly as she turned toward her, foot tapping as she waited impatiently for her iced coffee. Usually she was a hot kind of girl but today for some reason, the youngest Shepherd had flipped the switch. See, she liked Meredith’s sister a lot more than she did Meredith, not to mention Lexie always had good snacks. “Well, that depends… got any peanut buttercups hiding out in your pocket?”

Lexie grinned when Amelia asked her for peanut butter cups.  The younger Grey had never thought that her favorite candy would lead to more cases and thus more surgeries, but it worked with a select few.  She reached into the pocket of her lab coat and pulled out two peanut butter cups, handing them to Amelia.  “Breakfast of champions,” she grinned although now she would have to stop by her locker at some point to grab a few more.

“i just need someone to take her so we can head out on another call if one comes through. they won’t let us unless someone’s taken over her case and there’s not much more we can do, really. but if you could just keep an eye on her until someone can check her out, that would be great.” theo gave lexie a smile before signing the chart and handing it to her. some of the doctors’ egos were too big for their own good – not lexie’s though. she was one of the few ones theo tolerated. liked even. “it’s just been long. i’m pulling a double shift because everyone’s got the flu apparently. and everyone decided to break their leg or discover some gallstones they needed to get rid of all of a sudden.” a small chuckle slipped from her as she leaned against the nurses’ station. “what about yours? hopefully better than mine.” 

Lexie nodded and reached her hand out for the chart as Theo spoke.  She had no problems taking over the case.  “Who are we waiting for?” she asked as the woman signed the chart and passed it across to her.  Lexie flipped it open and began to review the first page as Theo spoke about her day.  “Double shifts are the worst.  Are you going to Joe’s after work?” she asked curiously.  Lexie couldn’t help the small giggle that escaped her lips when Theo described by they were presently short on doctors.  “Just that time of year, huh?”  It felt everyone else incredibly busy, but Lexie enjoyed it.  It meant she got to run point on more of her own cases.

addison had been covering more surgeries at the hospital, after she decided not to go on vacation after all. it had been keeping her busy and she needed the constant distraction in her life, after everything that had been going on the past few months. the brunette had worked with most of the residents, but just like meredith she saw promise in lexie and wanted to get to know her better as a surgeon and as a person, hopefully. “good morning, dr.grey. and please call me addison, when we’re not in the OR or in front of the interns. it’s alright. let’s see what we’ve got today, shall we?” addison smiled as she took the chart from lexie and opened it, as she took a seat. “nothing too exciting, but still gets us both into an OR and gets a baby born today safely. that’s always the main goal.”

Lexie nodded and took a breath when Dr. Montgomery told her to call her Addison for the time being.  It was strange that she was getting that from more and more superiors as she advanced within her surgical career.  “Of course Addison,” Lexie replied quietly as she gave the attending a moment to look over the chart.  “Healthy mom and baby is always the goal when working OB,” she told her with a nod.  “I rounded on mom a bit ago.  She does seem a bit nervous, which is normal.”

Mark sighed lightly when she offered Joe her card, but he had to remind himself that he and Lexie weren’t together. Were they even friends? Or were they just fuck buddies? That conversation was never had between the two. The only thing he knew for sure was that they had established that they did not have feelings for each other, though Mark’s was a completely, fabricated lie. The easiest way for him to act as though he did not have any feelings was to be short and treat Lexie like any other girl. “I would consider that a good day,” Mark agreed, thanking Joe for the drinks once the bartender set them in front of the two of them. “I’m sure the busyness in the pit made the day go by faster,” he commented, crossing his arms over the bar. The thing was… Lexie wasn’t any other girl. She was the love of his life. He knew that agreeing to have sex without feelings was a bad idea, but it was the only way that he could be close to her, so he was going to take what he could get. “It seems like there’s a lot of new faces around the hospital,” he stated, taking another sip of his scotch. He was trying to see if Lexie had her eye on anyone new. If she said that she did, he knew that he wouldn’t handle it well, though, so perhaps that wasn’t the best question to ask.

Lexie drummed her fingers against the counter as she kept her eyes on Joe, pouring their drinks.  It was easier than looking at Mark.  If she just stared at the man for too long, her heart was likely to turn into a puddle, and that was a feeling she hated.  Because a second later?  He would give her that stupid sideways smile.  “So yeah, it was a good day that passed quickly,” Lexie acknowledged, glancing over at him.  She raised an eye brow when he mentioned the new doctors that were working at the hospital.  “Yeah, I suppose there is,” she said with a nod.  She had worked with a few of them, and enjoyed learning from them.  New doctors, new beautiful female doctors meant an easy way for Mark to change their present arrangement.  Joe brought their drinks over a moment later, and Lexie raised her glass, taking a long sip.  “That must be really great for you,” she mumbled staring straight ahead.
