ASTRO PERSON
-
-
I have been exploring Arnold render for its toon shader and stumbled into its other capabilities. Truly staggering engine and understandable why its such a solid tool used in the industry. This character I am calling 'Astro Person' is an intergalactic festival goer and travels the cosmos partying with anyone and everyone without judgement and with total acceptance. The textures have all been painted in photoshop and next step is to see they/them animated. Hope you enjoy my work?

UNREAL DAY ONE
-
-
Day 1 with Unreal engine and already blown away by what it can do. Kitbshed this city and camera move in C4D and brought it into Unreal and playback was quicker rendered than the viewport in C4D. Start to finish took about 6 hours and that is from total noob having never opened Unreal before.

NEO TOKYO
-
-
Taking my Akira bike a stage further and placing it parked up on a Neo Tokyo highway. Used a single HDR and 2 IES lights along with elements from quixel megascans. The entire scene is built in c4d and rendered in octane and only a light grade in after effects.

PPE PLEASE
Hospital leaders rightly hit out at the government over a failure of PPE equipment to arrive. Here is my daily render informed by this story.
Stay safe and positive everyone.

ELF CONCEPT CAR

As lockdown continues I am now happy to share my fourth CG vehicle. Taking it away from 2 wheels to 4, this is my concept race car. The livery is built in photoshop and the UV’s were created using the new UV tools in cinema 4D R21.

SYD MEAD v002
-
-
An incremental development of my Braun Bike, this has been tweaked to have a single swing arm, bigger rear wheel and a roof canopy. Working with my procedural rig means I can make these changes very quickly. Also working incrementally means I can develop the look of these light cycles.

After completing my Akira bike, I wanted to challenge myself by building a Syd Mead inspired light-cycle, where I have ended up by some accident of design language is a bike that looks like it was created by Dieter Rams, so I have called it the Braun Bike.
I wanted to be able to make multiple iterations, so this is built completely procedural. There are no polygons in this build at all. This forms the start of a series of bike concepts which I can create from this single build. It also means I have the ability to animate elements if I so chose. The main model is also an xRef, which means I can version using takes within C4D and then simply update the xRef in my lighting scene, hit render with my camera angles and generate multiple concepts in a non destructive workflow.

Akira Concept Bike
3D Vehicle Concept Design
Lighting, Texturing and Rendering
So whilst on lockdown due to Covid 19, I decided it was time to work on something for myself. Its easy to forget when I was in my twenties why I got into design, and it was basically a love of drawing. After years of gathering skills and working commercially as a motion designer its been refreshing to remember that I love to make things from my own head.
Here is my homage to the Akira bike, a reference that rings true for so many of us within the visual community. Akira has influenced so much in contemporary culture it seemed fitting that I should put my spin on it. This has been a test for my modelling, lighting, texturing and rendering capabilities and I am really pleased to share it.
Created completely in Cinema 4D and using Octane render, it has taken around 10 days to create. What you are seeing is the final render, with some light grade and post work done in After Effects
