Madison loved Halloween. Mostly because Madison loved costumes. In years past, she donned Broadway inspired outfits. Elephaba - complete with green body paint, a Book of Mormon elder - with a custom Elder Berry nametag, and last year a perfect Evan Hansen blue polo with an almost authentic arm cast. But it was rare that people actually got her costumes, no matter how much time she put into them. So this year, she was taking a new approach. She wanted to be recognizable, but also, kind of blend in. Superheroes were common. Dorothy from Wizard of Oz would have been classic.
But after airing her dilemma in glee one day, Mason had the best suggestion. A Cheerio. He couldn’t help her get a current uniform, Rachel would surely kill for that, and Sue would egg it on. But the retired version was good enough. She hadn’t dared to wear it to school. Coach Sylvester would have still probably had a fit. Here at Sugar’s party, however, with her high pony bouncing every step, she felt confident, recognized. Sure she heard a few “look who’s trying to fit in” remarks, but mumbles behind her back were nothing she wasn’t used to.
Madison walked up to the drink table and poured herself a glass of punch, looking to see who else was there. Quinn had mentioned coming, and showing off a Halloween costume was definitely up Kurt’s alley. She hoped they would anyway, the three of them could all use a good night out.
Marley stepped away from the crowd of friends she was hanging out with to get some more to drink. She was far from the drunk mess she let herself be a few weeks ago, but she was still letting herself have some alcohol. She was in a nice state of mind and she wanted to keep that going.
Though she had hit a bit of a snag with Noah, her relationship seemed back on track. They had both gotten compliments on their couple costume, and getting to wear one of her comfy sweaters and a cute skirt and call it a “costume” was great with her. And she was getting better at ignoring what the hospital had told her - most of the time. She was sure she was a Wilde, either that or the hospital had made a mistake and she wasn’t switched. She was convinced of that. So she was absolutely fine and back in her HBIC mode.
So when Marley spotted a Cheerios uniform and a red solo cup, she froze. What the hell was that? Wearing that at a party where it could get a stain on it? Drinking alcohol in their uniform? Marley stormed over to the girl and said, “What are you doing wearing your uniform at a place like this?” Only then did she see that it was the retired uniform and that the person wearing it wasn’t an actual Cheerio, but Madison Berry.
“What...” Marley said, her face the picture of confusion. It all suddenly clicked a second later and she pursed her lips. “So this is the costume you were talking about. Where did you get that uniform? I thought coach had them all under locks and surveillance.”
