With much fewer personal belongings and two subpar AirAsia flights behind us be arrived on Koh Lanta, an island on the south west side of Thailand about 2 hours drive from Krabi. Neither of us had been to Thailand before this trip and I think on the drive to our hotel we were both questioning whether or not we should have come. I’m not really sure what I was expecting but I was taken back by the amount of trash and overall dirtiness of the country.
Our minds were put to ease when we arrived at our hotel and got our room. We stayed at the Sri Lanta resort in their new building named The Myth. It had all the western amenities were are used to and the pool was great. We found the beach in front of the resort fairly clean but the rest of the beach was littered with all sorts of garbage, mostly brought in by the sea. We also found dozens of jelly fish which kept us enjoying the view from the pool rather than the ocean.
We enjoyed the Thai food and even took a cooking class one evening. Other highlights included exploring on a scooter, walking the dogs at lanta animal welfare, messages and yoga at the resort and even some Greek gyros and French dessert at some local restaurants.
Over all Thailand was a great experience and we enjoyed our relaxing time. It’s helped us really realized what kind of life we live in America and not take to it for granted.

Sorry for the long absence. Let me bring you up to date with our travels. We said goodbye for now to New Zealand at the end of April. We arrived in Gold Coast, Australia and immediately headed north towards Cairns. I was able to sort a free car through transfercar.com for our drive up to Cairns and then a free campervan for our drive back down. We made our way north out of Brisbane and after about a day and a half of driving we arrive at Airlie beach and got ready for a 2 day overnight sailing trip around the whitsunday islands. The sailing trip was amazing! I really enjoyed the 30knot wind we had and helping the skipper work the sails. After some convincing I was able to get Sarah in a stinger suit and we got to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef.
From here we headed north again and collected our campervan. Here’s where it gets hairy. We decided to stay at the Palm cove holiday park just north of Cairns. Holiday parks are what Americans know as RV parks. A place to plug in your RV, and they usually have showers and kitchens. We parked up and called it an early night. We awoke the next morning to find all of our bags missing from the front seat where we had left them. Long story short it seams someone had opened the door and taken all our possessions while we were sleeping just inches away. After a visit with the police and collecting our very shaken minds we set off the next day for Sydney.
Three days later we arrived in Sydney…. Australia is BIG! We were introduced to a good friends Aunt and Uncle who were gracious enough to put us up for a few days and helped us feel much better about continuing our travels. We were able to acquire new Passports at the US consulate and got to explore Sydney more than we had planned. Such a cool city! We also spend a few days at Bondi beach. I took a surf lesson and can’t wait to go again.

As we spent our last day in Queenstown being tourists, I can't help but think about all the people who helped make this adventure possible! Thank you to all our friends/family in NZ and the US for helping us along the way!! @marshall_kyle #nz #queenstown #seeyousoonaustralia
Mom and Dad made into Queenstown on Saturday. It was a long day of travel but they powered through and we started their trip off strong. First was a boat ride on the TSS Earnslaw on lake Wakatipu. We followed that with dinner at Sarah and I's favorite restaurant in Queenstown, THE COW! Sunday we kept the adventure going and took another boat ride. This one was slightly faster and a bit more thrilling! The Shotover jet is the self proclaimed "worlds most exciting jet boat ride". I haven't been on many jet boats around the world but I think it would be hard to beat this one. About 6km of tall, rocky, narrow canyons flowing with clear blue water makes for an exciting ride. Especially when you've got 2 big block v8s push out 700hp and 800 liters of water per second through the jet!
Another holiday in NZ means another LONG weekend. Good Friday and “Easter Monday” off work meant we were back at our adventures! This time we headed north to Christchurch where we linked up with Kelsey and Gui before heading to Nelson. It was a long drive but it was a long weekend. In Nelson we enjoyed some of Gui’s home brew beer while overlooking a hops field. Kelsey and I (kyle) got an early start so we could catch the sunrise. Turned out to be a good call. The purple sky is the sunrise I saw on my way to work a few days earlier and the next picture was taken looking over the Tasman Bay towards Nelson.
We hired a couple sea kayaks and hit the water in Kaiteriteri. We soon found ourselves at Split Apple Rock where we took the typical kayaking in front of the rock pic and landed on the beach for some lunch and a swim (and a nap) before heading back.
On our way back to Christchurch we made a stop in Hanmer springs for a soak in the hot pools. My parents will be arriving soon and we will be off on another big adventure. We rather enjoy being NZ tour guides. This time however we will be leaving with our guests. After a 2 week tour of the south island my parents will be head back to the states while Sarah and I will make our way over to Australia. From there we are heading to southeast Asia and eventually landing back in the USA.
One of our last weekends in NZ couldn't have been spent with a better crew! @marshall_kyle @kelsey.face @guigus60 #NelsonNZ #autumn2016nz #splitapplerock #abeltasman
