Jia Aili was born in Dandong, China, in 1979 and lives and works in Beijing. In 2004 he graduated from the New Representationalism Studio of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, where he subsequently taught from 2005 to 2007, before focusing exclusively on his career as a painter. Recent solo institutional exhibitions include The Wasteland, Platform China Contemporary Art Institute, Beijing (2007); Make Believe . . . , Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts), London (2010); Good Morning, World!, He Xiangning Art Museum OCT Contemporary Art Terminal, Shenzhen, China (2010); Seeker of Hope, Singapore Art Museum (2012); Jia Aili, Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi, Venice (2015); and Jia Aili, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga, Spain (2017). He participated in the collateral events of the 54th Biennale di Venezia, Venice 2011.

Expansion on smthin i drew last yr:
Dans le “Je pense donc je suis”, le “je” du “je suis” n’est plus le même que le “je” du “je pense”. Pourquoi ? Parce qu’il reste à démontrer qu’il y a un rapport entre le corps et l’esprit. Entre “penser” et “existence”. Le sentiment que j’ai de l’existence n’est pas encore un “moi”. C’est un sentiment irréfléchi. Il naît en moi mais sans “moi”.
