July 18th- That's a warning shot As I was drawing this, I imagined them seeing a random suspicious child , and then i started wondering if the little girl that gave Yuuri water in novel one was eventually supposed to be Ulrike and sensei forgot XD I know that in current lore Conrad would have recognized her, but in that first novel that was supposed to be a one-shot, I wonder if that's why it was a little girl the one that 'awoke' his powers. We are having a conversation about Wolf and Celi parallels and it lead to the question of if Gwendals dad is dead and if so where it’s confirmed. The anime doesn’t say and I thought he was dead but we aren’t sure.

There's no 'death story' or mentions of 'his death' that I can recall, but we assume Gwen's dad is dead because Gwendal is the head of Voltaire, and the lord of the castle (Novel 2, chapter1). In 'Have a Nice Trip' part 3, Dunheely Weller tells Jozak to "Say hello to his 'sons'". So Cherie's second husband accepted Gwen as his 'boy', so again, another reason to believe he was sans dad at the time of Cherie marrying Dunheely. The lack of information IS the information. In Japanese 'hinting' at something is enough: I wrote this whole thing about Japanese culture that non-Japanese people might be interested in reading. (section 3 and 4, for what I'm talking about in this reply. There's so much more I could add here about Gwendal's demeanor: like Gwen "entrusting" Cherie to Chevallier and 'giving her hand in marriage'-kinda- (novel 16, chapter 7). Wouldn't mentions of his dad be there somewhere at some point? As he' entrusts his mom to someone else'? But there's nothing, just silence.

So, in Japanese stories what 'isn't said' is as important and valuable as what is said.
