‘til forever falls apart (i had the best time falling into love)
I’m using this prologue to satisfy the @flufftober Alternate prompt 2 - Fantasy AU/Mundane AU for the purposes of filling day 29. (And yes I know I'm a day late posting—forgot to schedule this and only saved the draft.) While the fic will also start fulfilling the WinterHawk Bingo and the @buckybarnesbingo in subsequent chapters, for now the only fill attributed to this prologue is for the @marvelrarepairevents Bingo — N5: Fairy Tales. This fic was also in part spawned by the prompts truth spell, fairy tales, and special occasions while playing a Bucky Barnes Bingo party game.
Summary: It wasn't that Bucky didn't like magic. He liked magic just fine. It was a natural part of the universe, the same as water or fire. But at the same time, magic sucked sometimes. Like when your house flooded or got set on fire, or your fairy guardian’s bestie needed someone who was immune to truth spells to marry his charge before his 21st birthday so that the kingdom wouldn't fall into the hands of a madman, and wouldn't you know that immunity to truth spells was the protection Bucky had been gifted with as a baby.
AKA a WinterWidowHawk arranged marriage AU.

Prologue: fell in love (with the thought of you)
Once upon a time in a faraway land, three very different people were drawn together by the strings of fate, the machinations of men, and a little bit of magic.
Three fairies were singing in a garden. It was the same song but also different every time. Sometimes they would reuse a verse or a melody—but never all at once, never the exact same way. This is the beauty of live music.
The three fairies had been friends for a long time and had been singing together for a long time. It’s hard, when you do the same thing over and over again, to find ways to make it new and fresh. The world is giant, but at the same time it is so, so, small. There is only so much one can do when one’s life extends forever before it all becomes quite dull and you find yourself not wanting to do much of anything at all.
Additional Notes: Yes, I know it's horribly irresponsible for me to start publishing another WIP while I already have so many, but in my defense! I'm really happy and proud of this one, and even if it ends up taking me longer than expected to finish publishing it is fully outlined so it will all come out eventually. I’m not sure yet exactly how many chapters it will have, mostly due to the fact that the characters keep running away from me and doing their own thing, resulting in my already having to add one chapter to my original outline and I expect there might be more. The goal is to by the end of this have about 10ish chapters and 20k-30k words. Tentatively, I plan to have the entire fic finished and published no later than mid-December. The entirety of the main story will be satisfied by this fic, however I have planned at least one, potentially two, explicit oneshots that take place in the same universe, which is why I have created the larger series.
Thanks as always to @tinysugacube for her grammatical prowess, as well as to Marvin for his official seal of approval.
