Get the vintage look in Lightroom!
With VSCO in thepicture, there is a trend of processing your pictures to give them a vintage look and feel. The image with faded colors makes it reach out to the people and evoke a nostalgic feeling. For me, the vintage feel is about stopping for a minute to relive not just the visuals but all that was associated to the image.. Some sort of a deja vu.
With a bunch of delivered presets in VSCO, processing images for instagram is easy peesy. But, how do you get that film inspired look and feel in Lightroom without ruining the colors of the original image? Read on for a simple technique!
The below image is an original image the right hand corner shows the Lightroom Tone curve tool which will be used to give a matte, film inspired effect to the image.
If you lift the tone curve from its left end corner and lift upwards the darkest colors in the image are lightened giving you the matte effect as shown in the image below.
How much of the tone curve is to be lifted is a personal choice. Clicking anywhere on the linear curve allows you to add more points, lifting which gives the image different feels of matte. Play with the curve to find what screams film and vintage to you.
