on this blog you can mainly find musicians who identify or present masculine, minus perisex cis binary men. (you will also find people of ftx/ftn identities. i touch more on this below.)

i post once a day. this project currently has little to no traction, but there are a lot of posts already, so don't hesitate to dig.

i hope to recieve submissions & constructive criticism, but please read the post until the end first.

i try to only use labels the artist themself uses or accepts, but i cannot completely avoid speculation.

a lot of the text used on this blog are direct quotes from descriptions in the musicians' profiles.

the point of this blog is not to put people in a "masc" box. i just want to combat queer/ trans masc invisibility, inside & outside music.

by extension i wish to combat invisibility of all female-to-any people. so sometimes i will post ftx musicians, who do not fit the aforementioned masculinity criteria. this is a bit of a moral dilemma for me. on the one hand, lived experience of female-to-any people heavily overlap & i want to bring visibility to all of them. on the other hand, i am posting on a masc blog & do not wish to misgender anyone or appear as if i reduce someone to "natal female sex". i am aware this is a grey zone & i hope for constructive criticism on this. just know that not bringing visibility to them is not an option for me.

all that aside, i do not discriminate submissions based on: a person's natal or changed genitals or body (in regards to gender), the sex or gender a person was externally assigned at any point in time, the way a person was socialialized (in regards to gender) at any point in time, the type or extent of an endogenous or exogenous puberty a person went through at any point in time, the way or ways a person presents (in regards to gender), a person's degree of or desire to be passing, etc. so: if a musician, in any degree or way, presents and/ or identifies themself as masculine, & that in some queer or trans way, i will post them to the blog.

sometimes i may also suggest a specific music piece by individuals who do not fit the aforementioned masculinity criteria, if this music piece is deals with masculinity in a queer and nuanced way.

this blog rejects the view that "trans masculine" is a label reserved for female-to-any identities. "trans masculine" is a literal label. if you are trans and you are masculine, you are trans masculine.

about me, the admin, & my gender: you may refer to me using they/ them pronouns. i am a trans/ queer masculine individual. i will not declare my gender identity or labels in greater detail here; it is irrelevant to my running this blog.

i make an effort to run this blog in a way that politically centers nothing or nobody, save for a holistic approach to each artist i post. for this reason i may chose certain phrasings that should ideally support a sense of internationalism, broad-mindedness, freedom & community.

i'm currently looking at the enby section of the QueerMetalArchive, to see if i can find any nonbinary musicians who identify or present masculine or openly ftx/ftn musicians. however i am struggling to make any progress in this research.

this is where my "posting criteria" for gender identity and presentation, hit their limits sometimes. gender identiy and presentation are not the most important aspects of a person, let alone an artist and their art. the musician might not discuss these topics or post pictures of themself on their platform at all. in this case all i know is that there is a nonbinary person involved in the project, and if i have visual material, then sometimes i can assume a "rough" gender identity... but do i want to do that? not really. and sometimes i can't even know if it's a solo or group act. furthermore, i am not aquainted with every culture or sub culture and what might be considered a masculine presentation in them.

Pioneer of queerness, female masculinity & musicianship in South Korean popular culture, MoonByul has been pushing the boundaries for over a decade, solo & as a member of the supergroup Mamamoo. She is notably the most credited female lyricist among Kpop idols.

Momo Tamtri (they/he)

Momo Tamtri is a queer and nonbinary Singer-Songwriter and producer currently based in Berlin. Their sound pairs nostalgic Indie-Rock and -Folk with elements of dark Dreampop. They write lyrics that are usually clear, thoughtfully direct, and often times melancholic. Furthermore, they have been singing "duets with themself" at different stages of being on TRT.

D-Dur Dykes* is world’s biggest FLINTA* pop choir

"FLINTA*" is a German acronym originating in queer-feminist communities, refering to all sex and gender modalities/ identities, except for endosex cis binary men. The asterisk in German symbolizes gender diversity.

This choir has a significant amount of queer/ trans masculine members.
