I am so sick and tired of finding fanfictions that look interesting, and going in hoping for GN readers, only to be figuratively slapped in the face with a female reader. It sucks as someone who isn't comfortable with she/her pronouns or titles when you see that in a fic without expecting it.

Please just make it clear. I am so tired of getting excited by a fanfiction, only to be hit the face with a fem reader- there's nothing wrong with fem readers. But please, just make it clear. I'm tired of this.

X-Reader Services will NOT edit Canon-X-OC or Canon-X-Canon fics, only fics that are explicitly X-Reader. That being said, X-Reader Services will also keep the “Y/N” indicator in case there are other people who go by the edited pronouns who would like to read the same fic.

Although suggestive (not explicitly NSFW) fics are allowed to be requested for editing, X-Reader Services asks that you understand if we are uncomfortable going through and editing certain fics, and also asks that minors in no way interact with these 18+ stories or else risk being banned. 18+ stories will always be tagged with “Minors DNI” for this reason, so it is highly suggested you filter this tag if you are 17 or under.

Hey y’all!

Me, @lxstfulbeans @skepticalkoi-catastrophe and @kalopsiaologist have decided to come together to create a HUGE Ao3 and Wattpad account exclusively for black/poc readers. We know how upsetting it is to read a fic/book/one-shot where it’s literally x wh*te reader in a nutshell and no representation for POCS whatsoever. And because of that, we decided to take one for the team and do this cuz chile...it’s been getting way outta hand and me personally, I’m sick of it.

How to be More Inclusive in Your Reader-Inserts

I finally made something for fanfiction writers to use as reference on things to avoid when writing. if you are making a reader-insert story, be sure as most people as possible can see themselves fufilling the role you want them to in your story. 

I became a POC fanfiction writer after years of feeling excluded in reader-insert fanfiction. It’s important as a job as a writer to know your audience—some of which may not always fit in your “view”.

Please take the time to read this to help better yourself in the future. I know I didn’t hit every issue, but I’m willing to update it in the future. 

I apologize if this isn’t the prettiest thing, but it was important for me to create.

So for years black girls have had to read fanfics where y/n was automatically described as being paled skinned with long flowing hair and blue eyes. We couldn’t relate to it exactly, it excluded us, it ignored us. But we read it cause it was all that was out there. Now when we start writing fanfics for other black girls to feel included and represented, now you all are saying that you ‘‘can’t relate to it” therefore don’t support black writers when we were supporting your work all those years even though you were acting like we don’t exist within these fandoms.

It’s incredibly frustrating because I’ll be reading about the characters turning shades of pink and I’m like. I don’t turn pink. Black people don’t blush. If this is suppose to be reader insert why the hell is it saying that? I don’t have blue eyes or flowing hair? The actual heck.

Bruh don’t get me started, we’ve come a long way but why are ppl complaining when we got something to ourselves? Jeez. You have trillions of stuff, let us have our own.

Ways to describe a gender neutral, ethnicity-neutral character:

Blush = cheeks/face heating up

Describe how skin feels instead of how it looks

Hair being soft instead of long/flowing/silky

Maybe don’t even describe hair. Running one’s fingers through it doesn’t require a length or texture.

Why are we describing an insert’s eye color anyway? “I’ve always loved the color of your eyes.” There you go.

It’s so easy to have characters admire someone without relying on their appearance.

If you can’t, then maybe you’re not as good a writer as you think you are.

There has been more and more talk on my dash of this community not being inclusive enough. I would like to say a couple things, I am a trans man on the arospec and I’m Nuerodivergent. I more than welcome nonbinary folx and POC to add to this if there’s something I miss or couldn’t be as detaied about! I’m mainly trying to start of conversation. Sorry for any typos I’m on my own out here with my issues lmao.

I do agree, and while I am a huge advocate for “Write for you but warn and tag” which does apply to pronouns. We are still, in fandom as a whole, assuming fandoms are only made up of women who are straight, cis, allo*1, thin and white.

I’ve often seen people claiming they don’t know how to write from a different point of view. So under the cut I’m going to list some ways to make language more neutral you can take the advice or not but there are lots of ways to just “degender” and vague imagines and once you get into a habit of it it’s very easy! You don’t have to change the entire imagine. You can keep up your storyline 9/10.

I’ve broken this into two sections. gender and appearance. Would love if someone took over this post with a some disability stuff! Also, if anyone who’s nonbinary has any corrections and is willing to make them, I will step aside and let them take the wheel!

If ya’ll want to change something like pronouns or your name in the fic you can just use The Interactive Fic Extension for Google Chrome! You can choose specific words and replace them with a preferred word. I use it for pronouns a lot as well as Y/N and such. It’s super helpful!

Mod noir! 1st that's a cool name!! :) 2nd, if it's okay, could you write Peter Parker/SpiderMan x male!reader and the reader is really shy but originally friends with Peter and on Valentines Day he writes a note and leaves it for Peter under the name of a secret admirer, there are multiple notes throughout the day and Peter catches the reader hiding one, the finds out it's a secret admirer note and confronts them which turns into a awkward& blushy confession from the reader?
