Pride Month Day 1: Confession Anniversary | BakuDeku
“I confessed first.”
“No, you didn’t.”
"I absolutely did!”
Izuku looked genuinely offended, like this was a matter of fact being violently mis-recorded in history.
Katsuki was lying on Izuku's bed, nose buried in one of his Weekly Heroes magazines.
“You mumbled something and ran off,” Katsuki said without looking. “That’s not a confession.”
“It was a confession!” Izuku insisted. “It still counted!”
"Tsk. It doesn’t count if I didn’t hear it properly.”
Izuku was about to implode. “That’s not how confessions work!”
“Yeah?" Katsuki scoffed. "And who made that rule, huh? Cause it's a fucking dumb one if it's real.”
Izuku opened his mouth, closed it, then opened it again like he was trying to construct a logical argument that wouldn’t immediately fall apart under Katsuki’s glare.
“I said I liked you,” he finally mumbled. “Very clearly, actually.”
Katsuki just scoffed again. “You said it like you were apologizing to me.”
On the bed of Izuku's room, he pushed off the mattress and placed the magazine he was reading onto the All Might-themed cover.
“That’s not fair,” Izuku said, pointing at Katsuki again. “You always twist it like that.”
“I don’t twist anything,” Katsuki corrected cockily. “I just remember it correctly.”
He stood up and took two strides to where Izuku was sitting. Green-haired idiot had curled himself into a flustered ball at his desk, like shrinking would somehow make the argument disappear.
"Ugh, you're such a jerk," Izuku mumbled, burying his face into his arms. "You never let me have a first in anything we do."
Katsuki stood there for a second, looking down at him.
Izuku peeked out just slightly from his arms, still red-faced.
Katsuki’s brow twitched. “I don’t get what the hell you mean by that," he said flatly.
Izuku let out a small, frustrated sound into his sleeves again. “I mean exactly what I said.”
"Which, Deku, is what exactly?"
Izuku opened his mouth, then hesitated like the question suddenly required more courage than he expected.
“I-” he started, but it came out smaller than he meant.
Katsuki clicked his tongue.
Before Izuku could retreat back into his arms again, Katsuki crouched down in front of him.
Close enough that Izuku had to actually look at him.
“Kacchan-” Izuku began, but stopped when Katsuki’s hand came up.
Two fingers under his chin. Firm, with no room for argument or debate.
"You act like you hate it when I take first place."
Katsuki didn’t let go. Didn’t look away either. “You heard me," he growled
Izuku’s face went a little red again. “That’s not- I don’t-" he stammered, then stopped. “I-I don’t hate it.”
Katsuki's brows narrowed. "Yeah? Then what is it, Nerd?"
Izuku's mouth opened like he was going to jump back into explanation, then closed—like every version of the answer he had wasn’t quite right.
Katsuki didn’t move. Didn’t rush him.
That alone made Izuku’s chest tighten a little more.
“…It’s not that I hate it,” he said finally, quieter. “It’s just…”
He glanced away for half a second before Katsuki’s fingers firmly, but gently guided his face back forward again.
“…It’s just that it always feels like you’re already there,” Izuku admitted. “Like you figured everything out before I even knew there was something to figure out.”
A pause. His voice dropped further.
“And I don’t know how to be okay with that sometimes.”
Silence settled between them again, but it wasn’t sharp anymore.
Katsuki clicked his tongue, but it was softer this time—less annoyed, more… restrained.
Izuku flinched slightly on instinct, but Katsuki didn’t release him.
“You really think that’s what this is?” Katsuki said.
Izuku frowned. “Isn’t it?”
Katsuki leaned in just a fraction closer.
“No,” he said. “It’s you thinking I’m ahead when you’re just standing in a different place.”
“…And you’re still the only one I ever bothered turning around for,” he added, quieter, like it annoyed him to say out loud.
He finally just shook his head.
"Just come on the bed. You're pissing me off by being over here."
Izuku blinked. “I’m literally right here.”
“Yeah,” Katsuki said, like that explained everything. “And I said move.”
There wasn’t real heat in it anymore. Just that familiar edge he used when he didn’t want to sit still inside a feeling too long.
Izuku hesitated, still trying to process everything that had just been said.
“…You always do that,” he murmured.
“Decide things are over before I do.”
Katsuki clicked his tongue and turned toward the bed. “Because they are.”
Izuku didn’t move right away.
That alone made Katsuki glance back over his shoulder.
Izuku exhaled slowly, then stood and walked over.
"You really think I’m not behind you?” Izuku asked again, softer.
Katsuki stared at the ceiling for a second like the question annoyed him on principle.
Then he huffed. “I think you’re annoying,” he said.
Izuku blinked. “That’s not-”
“But you’re not behind me,” Katsuki added.
That made Izuku's breath catch. Very rarely did Katsuki say something like that, and saying anything else would break it.
So, he didn't speak. He just.. sat down beside him.
The room felt unusually still, like even the air didn’t want to interrupt whatever this was becoming.
Katsuki exhaled through his nose.
“…You’re tense,” he muttered.
Izuku shook his head. “No I’m not.”
Before Izuku could argue, Katsuki shifted. Without warning, he grabbed the front of Izuku’s shirt and tugged him backward.
Not hard enough to hurt. Just enough to tip him off balance.
Izuku barely had time to react before he was pulled down onto the bed.
Katsuki adjusted immediately, like this had always been the plan, rolling slightly so there was space but not distance. One arm stayed loosely hooked around Izuku like it was the most natural thing in the world.
“…You could’ve warned me,” Izuku chided quietly.
That should’ve been the end of it.
But then, after a beat...
“…You think too loud,” Katsuki added, eyes already half-closed.
Izuku huffed. “That’s not a thing.”
Izuku let out a small breath through his nose, something almost like a laugh but not quite.
“…We’re still arguing,” he murmured.
“No we’re not,” Katsuki said immediately.
“…Just shut up and stay here.”
