The whole manga has a clear, crisp art style, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the arcs a big boost. She was taken slightly aback at how suddenly calm her opponent was, not expecting her to suddenly act so… obedient. For some reason, while if seemed satisfying to an extent, it served to ultimately annoy her further. “Okay, you are not pulling this shit on me,” she vehemently demanded, her glare sharpening. “One, it’s Lady, not Lord. two, you sure like staying in one place for a traveler.”

She then dashed backwards along the ground to add distance, hands outstretched and slightly behind her as she charged up.. “And third, I’ll find out my own way!” Reimu swiftly threw her arms forwards, shooting out a loosely-aimed volley of danmaku ofuda towards Yoroko, using the first strike to circle around her and pull out a spellcard.

“'Fantasy Heaven'!” she shouted, her body escaping reality as she fired an aimed stream right at her tails. The young woman wanted to see her opponent in pain, revenge fueling her. The only reason she stuck to spellcards was because Yoroko hadn’t not used danmaku yet. Oh, how she wanted the kumiho to try for her neck so she could use more painful methods of dealing with her.

Oh, she's disconcerted. How unusual. One would expect that the loud tengu would have given Reimu some decent warnings about a kumiho's behavior. Then again, these are the same people that believe a kumiho is to be fought like a kitsune. It'll be fun to see that face of shock when this exorcist is ultimately defeated. But even now, it already seemed like the kumiho already had every advantage. Angered versus collected, vengeful and, well, whimsical? Yes, that was the word for this scenario. She was frightened and worried at first, but now that the huntress knew the emotions and mental state of her opponent, she was feeling overeager, ready to simpy poke at her and rile her emotions even more. It was a sign of overconfidence on Yoroko's part. Even when angered, an exorcist had the exact tools needed to dispel anything the kumiho had. No time to be playing with food, now.

As soon as the battle started, Yoroko jumped back into the shade, sending up a wall of solidified shadow to block the initial wave. A few of them hit, and as soon as they did, the shadows withered and sunk back into the ground. Expected, but it also meant that she couldn't rely on her place in the shadows for a safe defense. This one had to be a fast battle if she wanted to get away from this one alive. Or all in all, the usual. She turned around fast enough to see the blast of danmaku, but as she dodged, could feel even the basic grazing tear through her skin and shadows, almost as if it was acidic. She bit her teeth together, concealing her yelp, and ran, avoiding the onslaught as carefully as possible.

What did confuse Yoroko though, was how Reimu seemed to be transparent. Was she intangible then? Oh, then this was going to be even easier than expected. Maybe she won't even expect this. The kumiho raised her hands, pointing her index, middle, and thumb outwards in a claw stance. She turned around as energy began to gather in her hands, and then come together in front of her in the form of the multicoloured Yeoiju orb, before letting its radiance shine in front of her, directed right at Reimu.

The screams of anything sentient dying was always a chilling sound. Even to someone like Reimu, although her past experiences and nightmares had steeled her somewhat. While it wasn’t exactly demoralizing, she wouldn’t deny that the sight and sounds weren’t unbelievably unsettling.

She floated around the arm mostly, a barrier forming for a brief moment to deflect it away. "Well, she knows I’m following now…" At that realization, her movement became less stealthy and more determined, letting her body show her anger and urge to pummel. She winced as she watched Yoroko finish off the human, the shadows consuming the corpse.

Reimu took a cautious step back as the kumiho approached, keeping a good several feet between her and the fox demon. “…You’re going to look worse later, so I could care less,” she countered, glaring at Yoroko. “Now, I’ve got several questions for you, but I’ll settle for your name now, and the rest after I take something off of you as a trophy. It’ll be either your pride or an organ, depending on how I end up dealing with you.” The gohei in her right hand cracked lightly, she was squeezing it so tightly.

Feisty, oh so very angry. For a shrine maiden, she seemed to be less controlled here. Almost vengeful, to a point, considering the maiden seemed to want her own liver- and she had to assume it was a liver that Reimu wanted with poetic justice and all- as a trophy. If she wished to lose control in such a dangerous match, so be it. Yoroko will not be making the same mistake.

Or perhaps this entire fight was a mistake. Approaching a shrine maiden alone was a dangerous task for any demon, considering as very little can remain hidden under the sharp intuition of a well trained exorcist, and the kumiho relied very heavily on that ability to lie to and manipulate the opponent, as well as the world around her. At least here it would be dark, and the evening sun was casting large shadows against the clearing, but she lost any chance for a preemptive strike. Unlike Reimu, who was here due to her vindictive desires, Yoroko just needed to survive for just a bit longer.

The kumiho raised her head, retaining an extremely subservient aura. Her smile never altered, with no glow in her eyes that showed any sort of alternate emotion, and were it not for the constant shifting of her tails, and the shadows they threw onto the ground, Yoroko wouldn't have ever been assumed to be exactly a murderer. Though it didn't matter, as by the time they realize something is off, they've already wandered past their comfort zone, into a world that they cannot control. She doesn't just manipulate the victim, it's more optimal to manipulate the world to the point that the victim has no choice but to take the huntress' hand, against all prior knowledge. It was a joy to her, to have that control over anyone. Especially someone like Reimu here.

It would be almost justified in theory, but to see a man neutered bloodily, removed of the vital but not fatal organs, and then forced to vomit, have his fat cut off, and then hung from a tree wasn’t exactly poetic at all. Akarin was probably right when she says that it was downright creepy.

Tonight was supposed to be a simple catch. Trick the human, grab him, gag him, eat him. Go to the cemetery and see what else she could nab. Standard schedule, but one that she’s been avoiding due to her little show with the tengu. Not the first victim to escape, but one of the very few to have lost his liver and survived for more than a week. She was going to be caught now, there was no doubt about it. No way of actually leaving the world, and now people were going to be chasing after her. She’ll be able to last through it, though. Just a bit longer, and she’ll be done, the hunt done for good.

She looked behind her, and smiled lightly. Caught at last. The kumiho blew a kiss, before she decided to doff the facade. All of a sudden, nine tails, pitch black enveloped Yoroko as if she was surrounded by black fire. She dived forwards, dragging the man along the ground with incredible friction, watching as a trail of skin and flesh stuck to the rocks along the trail as the huntress fled into the woods. The man’s screaming grew louder and more grotesque.

Reimu watched, wincing as she watched the kumiho slowly shredd the human along the ground, watching the blood quickly accumulate as the screams grew along with the distance, shifting into nightmarish cries for help and pleading for his life. Judging by the amount lost, he’d bleed out before Reimu could get him to Eientei. She lipped a silent prayer for the human as she started following the organic trail in the snow into the forest, knowing that her main goal was this thing doing the act, and neutralizing her however possible. As she followed the trail, she thought up her battle plan. "Open up on top, flaunt power to intimidate. Use Fantasy Heaven, spellcard variant or not depending on her actions. Pound into either submission, unconsciousness, or bloodied pulp. Any objections?" she thought to both of her selves. Getting a visual nod of the white amalgamation of memories within her head, she picked up the pace, taking to the air to avoid making any unneeded noise. Once the beast was preoccupied, she’d make her move

The story changed once the two of them reached the trees, however, as she quickly decided to change her course. Mainly because she was going to be reaching her destination soon, for one, and two because the man she was carrying was going to have to meet his end one way or another and to be completely honest, the fox wanted to actually enjoy her meal before having to fight. So a quick and easy kill would have to...

Oh, no. He seemed to survive that first tree. She had grabbed his head and let it smash against the trunk, too. The blow actually slowed Yoroko down slightly, causing her to spin from the sheer force. Graceful, certainly, but it was getting blood everywhere. Then what about this next large tree? The second one will- Well, there goes the arm. Surely that shrine maiden there will be kind enough to be hit by it and get lost in the forest. Well, looking at how it's flying, it'll probably hit her one way or another. I don't think that he's even screaming anymore, just yelling curses while sobbing hysterically. 

Hahaha of course it wouldn't kill him, Yoroko wasn't ever planning to finish off the man first. For one, that screaming was going to be useful, very useful, for demoralizing the poor shrine maiden. Just as if she needed more reminders that she had just willingly let a man be killed just to find someone for the gamble that the demon would be defeated. Pushing a bit of salt in the wound, as it really is surprising how many people are fazed when they hear these sort of screams.

She eventually stopped within a small clearing. The sun was setting behind her, and the corpse of whatever remained of the man was hidden from plain view. Faint breathing indicated that the man was still breathing, but not for long as several spikes rose out from the shadows, impaling his heart and liver while tearing them right out of his body. Yoroko gently plucked her meal off and consumed them quickly. She had someone else to work with today. Tendrils ran out from the shade, and slowly swallowed up what remained of the poor victim as the kumiho knelt to the approaching shrine maiden with a mocking bow. "Honored One, it's quite unusual to have visitors during a meal, but I pray you find my... less than becoming appearance to be acceptable. "

"Ugh…" Reimu sighed, patrolling along a path that branched off of the village and alongside the Forest of Magic. With dusk setting in, youkai would be getting more active in general. It didn’t stop some humans from staying up later than was considered safe, though. She yawned and leaned on a tree, taking a quick break from walking,watching a man easily twice her age speed-walk past her towards the village.

"Mmh… I swear, I wish you’d do this while I stayed home…" she whined to her other self, pouting as she replied within her head. She’d have continued, but the scream of a human interrupted her, the married miko springing to action and looking to where she heard the noise. The source was visible for all of a moment; the same man being dragged from off of the path and into the forest. While this would normally set off her fighting mindset, the fact that the only thing doing the deed were shadows…

"…Finally found you…" she muttered, her already-formed fists tightening as she quietly followed the human from a safe distance to remain hidden. If the human happened to die for the fox to show herself, well… she felt it was a decent enough sacrifice for justice.

There was laughter, “A simple traveler?  A Kumiho?  You’ve traveled a very short distance then.”  The boy seemed to materialize out of the perpetual haze of the forest.  More like he wasn’t there before.  Teleportation.  Dressed in formal European attire, he looked outlandish, even without the longer pink hair.

He smiled and flicked a portion of his hair out of his face.  The boy had streaks of corruption running through him, though it was as if it hadn’t decided if it were youkai or demonic.  Either way, his humanity was at risk.  A book bobbed in the air behind him, archaic and forgotten runes glowing in the air above the pages.

"Is that better?  I was hoping you’d open the doors.  It’s much more impressive that way."  He floated in the air, looking down.  magic played around one of his hands as he shrugged and let out a sigh, "It’s really hard to set these things up, you know.  I wanted you to feel welcome."

Her first impressions basically ran within two veins of thought. The more immediate thought was pushed away as the magician gave his physical appearance. Young, extremely young. Younger than even expected, when given the context of the second thought. He knew what a kumiho was. And he was a foreigner, or at least, dressed in the same ostentatious, prudish manner that Westerners so lovingly paraded themselves in. So literally everything before hand, the doors, the voice, the magic used even now, was entirely to flout his power, knowledge, and so-called wisdom. Common for aristocracy, this one knew a decent deal about the land he's in, surprisingly enough. He was planning on getting what he wanted peacefully, no intention to fight.

Hands together, kept together at the front. Like a proper servant, at least. She bowed once more before she spoke up, "I apologize, but I have found that I must tread ground carefully. Without the protection of a master, it has been difficult to fend off any assaults."
