Patrick Bateman: Do you like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure? Paul Allen: It’s OK. Patrick Bateman: Lovely Irene was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when JoJo came out in ‘87, I think Araki came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole manga has a clear, crisp art style, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the arcs a big boost. It’s been compared to Baoh, but I think JoJo has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. Paul Allen: Hey Halberstram. Patrick Bateman: Yes, Allen? Paul Allen: Why are there copies of Rohan Kishibe Visits the Louvre all over the place, d-do you have a dog? A little Iggy or something? Patrick Bateman: No, Allen. Paul Allen: Is that a rain coat? Patrick Bateman: Yes it is! In ‘92, Araki released this, Diamond is Not Crash, his most accomplished part. I think the undisputed masterpiece arc is Kira Yoshikage Just Wants a Quiet Life, a section so stylish, most people probably don’t read the text. But they should, because it’s not just about the pleasures of killing random women and taking their hands, and the importance of a quiet life, it’s also a personal statement about Kira Yoshikage himself. [raises axe above head] Patrick Bateman: Hey Paul! [he bashes Allen in the head with the axe, and blood splatters over him] Patrick Bateman: TRY GETTING A RESERVATION AT TONIO’S NOW, YOU FUCKING STUPID BASTARD! YOU, FUCKING BASTARD!
