I'm feeling that way right now too. I'm like, what if I'm just a tomboy? I mean, I do cosplay as cis pretty much all day i don't introduce myself as my preferred name. Until I feel really comfortable around someone like I don't know, man. I think for me, the mask of being a girl is comfortable because nobody questions it but If I want to be friends with someone I want them to know I really don’t feel like a girl and I don’t want to be seen as one.

They used to tell me how menstruation connects you to the women who came before you, stretching back thousands of years, all the way to the days of the Bible and having to bleed with the other women in a tent, unclean but still holy. I am stapled to this legacy by two x chromosomes I didn't ask for. I am drowning and the water tastes like copper and musk. Being a woman has been connected to pain since Genesis and I used to think that was because a man wrote that but maybe they were on to something, maybe they watched enough people die screaming, trading one life for another, or waste away slowly, the blood flowing like a river down someone's shaking legs. I didn't ask to be a woman and I'm afraid to ask for what would make me less of one. I cannot shed the label, because every month something else of mine is shed.  In my mind I am connected to the strange ones. The inbetween. The ones who were holy, connected to their gods in ritual, in prayer, in war. The ones born of the moon, the ones that men who thought they knew better could never truly wipe out. The ones who survived through words and stories and songs. The ones pathologized. The ones told to decide between two tightening nooses or else they would be tied to their genitals forever, the ones wondering if it was worth that to just not bleed anymore. The ones electrocuted and force fed vitamins, the ones who had their lives unrelentingly picked through like a puzzle meant to be solved when they are the answer. The ones who's parents will never understand. I am connected to the children crying in the bathroom as they wonder why they couldn't float in the space inbetween forever. The ones hiding their pads in boxer shorts. The ones called unholy, sinners, fools. The ones told they are going through a phase. The ones told to decide, because the blood coming out of them has decided for them. I am blood. I am water. I am inbetween and interwoven and alive. 

This poem is about menstruation while being transmasc.

This poem was inspired by all the things I was told when I got my period when I was 11. It is inspired by all the things I've been told about it since, from men and women and everyone inbetween and both. It is about me, but it might be about you too. If it is, I am glad to be connected, even if it's through shared pain.

Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.

He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"

"What?"

He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"

"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."

Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.

Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.

I should also add- I ran into my rabbi and explained the situation. I then asked, earnestly, if there was a remedy. A mikveh of sorts, or a beit din, or something.

He turned to me, sighed, and said in a very deadpan tone-- "Plants don't have covenants, Joy,"

So Theodora's a free agent according to rabbinic opinion. I guess I'll permit her to be Roman Catholic.

Dear ABA therapy affected people, expected and unexpected behaviour is for people that hate themselves, just love radically and if the neurotypicals resist keep loving radically.

Kindness is pretty straightforward and easy whether expected or not. If the expected behavior perpetuates the oppression of someone it’s unkind: resist it if ya can. Expected and unexpected behaviour doesn’t help when no matter what your efforts will be punished. Pick efforts that are truely worth your time but trying to fit into this messed up world never is. If people don’t like you: fuck 'em. If you truely were kind, respected everyone's autonomy, made everyone feel human, they have no reason to: they are just projecting hate.

As you can tell this is really just for me because I am a crazy autistic yapper.

"The False Dilemma fallacy is a logical fallacy that occurs when only two choices are presented, when in fact there are more viable options available. This fallacy is also known as the "false dichotomy," the "either/or" fallacy, and the "black-or-white" fallacy. It is a form of oversimplification that ignores any other potential choices."

To present that you must be either be assigned male at birth and experience a life coloured by the experience of being male or not identify as a man at all is a false dichotomy.

Sometimes it just makes sense as well, some trans men look like men and live as men and I don’t think calling them women makes sense in any context.

I personally fall in to the catogory where I fall into many commonly accepted definitions of a girl and that’s okay with me because it’s just the truth.

If you really have anything worth saying you should probably be able to make a systematic argument like this:

A. Gender performance is socially inforced, if a girl wears a dress she is called beautiful, when a boy wears a dress he is told to change because dresses are for girls.

B. Gender and sex are brutally controlled: intersex people are physically mutilated as newborns to conform to a sex, then the gender associated is pushed on them.

C. Such constructs are incorrect: boys should get to wear dresses and intersex people should get to be nonbinary and choose their gender later on

D. Regardless of whether these constructs are correct they exist and gender will continue to be socially moderated and reinforced.

E. I deserve to resist my gender moderation in commonly accepted terminology. I deserve to be able to say I am a trans man or nonbinary instead of explaining the exact aspects of feminine socialization I reject, when I say I am a trans man, I am making a claim about myself instead of going around telling people what to call me.

I reject all compliments that reinforce my conformity to femininity, I reject being called pretty and feminine and a good girl.

I shouldn’t need to explain that. I should be able to just say "I am a trans guy" and them to realize immediately how inappropriate any comment like that would be.

Summary: gender is not about biology it’s about control, it is used to humanize and dehumanize and we should be able to reclaim that narrative not to discredit our biological sex, but to discredit the role it plays in our place in society and everyday social interactions.

You would think that the definition of love wouldn't be subjective, but sadly, from all of my experiences, it seems to be that those who say they love me love me in ways that I find oppressive. It's truly one of those things that makes me angry at the world.
