Mister Maximilian of the Dupont family is a gentleman of nineteen, a student of Economics at the University of New York and a member of the Nouveaux Riches. He is also, much to his dismay, the step-brother of one Violet Hayes-Dupont, whom he happens to have strong feelings for. Yes, why yes I do. It’s beautiful…something to immerse yourself in and be thankful for. Without it, we would have the unfortunate side effects of a drought, and it replenishes everything. The rain is calm.

Well yes, it is a curse for a reason…but I suppose the same could be said about corsets and champagne. With every good comes a bad.

Why should we care about rain? Why not walk in it and enjoy it?

I have found myself oddly dependent on sunlight, and thus the rain has ill effects on my mood most days. Observing it is bad enough without having to physically experience it. Do you enjoy it?

I personally commend you, economics has always been a field a bit outside of my grasp. Arithmetic and history combined? Always seemed daunting to me.

It had its appeal initially, but that vanished around... the half year mark, I would say.

How is work as a lawyer turning out for you, then? Better than my studies, I should hope.

I’ve been alright, recently I have had the misfortune of being bombarded with case files in the office. Which fortunately intrigues me just a bit, so I do not find myself completely miserable. How have you been, Max?

That sounds most unfortunate indeed, although I commend you for finding something of interest in the situation. I have been well, as always. My studies have entirely ceased to fascinate me, although I suppose that should have been expected. Economics is not exactly the most... stimulating field.

I was a late bloomer, but I enjoy thinking that I have turned out rather well since then.

I’m sorry…..years? I expect this to continue for a few more days, perhaps a week —— but a year? My, Max you are certainly a treat.

In my defence, I was a child, Violet, barely four or five years of age. I believe myself excused on account of my tender age.

I do, and yet it would be in poor taste not to offer you assistance. I may have been an easily confused child, but I will not be a bad host.

           —— Oh, I understand. I still find myself searching aimlessly for the bath on occasion. But it’s truly lovely; the house, I mean. I quite enjoy it.

It can be somewhat overwhelming at first. I would often get lost as a child, and it would happen for years after we moved in. Always threw my mother into a panic.

I don’t understand why ladies have to wear corsets all the time. What do the men have to wear that’s uncomfortable? Nothin’, that’s what. We should make men wear corsets and see how they like it…
