Season 1 episode 6 Otto explains to Alicent in the most simple terms that if there's a succession war, Rhaenyra will HAVE to kill the Green kids to secure her own claim even if she doesn't want to. She was chosen as heir when there were no others besides Daemon. Hell she even asked her mom if she's carrying a girl in episode 1 because she knew deep inside that if she got a living brother, he would become the heir.
Let's skip to season 2, episode 8. Alicent defects to TB and gives Rhaenyra the keys to the city on the condition that her kids must be spared. Rhaenyra calls her out on her stupidity and says she MUST kill them to secure her claim. Alicent then goes along with it and asks Rhaenyra to come run away with her. But the consequences is that she condemns her 3 living sons, her brother, her father, Orwyle, Cole, Larys...to death and asks for Heleana and Jaehera to be spared. Which is kinda surprising considering I expected her to throw them under the bus as well.
Alicent's character has been brutally assassinated and this isn't even the tip of the iceberg.
