It's so interesting to me how the fandom treats Rhaenyra like a saint, like she's really that girl: the prophecy, the myth, the legend. They make theories about her: one bigger than the next. But in the grand scheme of things, she's just another spoiled Targaryen who did nothing except exterminate the dragons. No one remembers her, no one speaks about her in a positive way; she's just a small part of Targaryen history. She's not Daenerys, not even close to her, but for some reason, people are treating her the same, if not better, acting like the whole story was written just for her and that she really did something for her dynasty, other than cause destruction. Both the fanbase and the show treat her this way. I'm sorry, but you guys are so fucking deluded it's unbelievable. The world doesn't spin around her; other characters also have thoughts, beliefs, lives, and she's just a small part of that world.

The fandom's universal centering of Rhaenyra regarding Criston's motivations and actions like he has no real agenda, personality, or life of his own separate from hers and the invalidation of his grievances with her is so revealing of how real life prejudices translate into media consumption, specifically americentrism and eurocentrism. Many of these people suffer from main character syndrome in real life from being white and/or born in the imperial core. They're used to stripping racialized brown people from the global south of their agency and painting them as hostile caricatures why wouldn't they do it to a brown character who insulted their White Protagonist Princess™?

b&c? her son's murder? never mentioned again after the funeral. she just gets over it because 'babies die'. the people who sent assasins to murder her baby in his cradle now live in the same castle as her and her daughter, they locked her up and seperated her from her one remaining child and no one makes a remark. no one remembers jahaerys. instead it was played as alicent's fault for *checks notes* ah yes, having consentual sex for the first time in her life. how dare she. if she hadn't been experiencing freedom for the first time in her life the assasins sent by daemon wouldn't have succeeded. her fault, right?

maelor, who rhaenyra put a bounty on, who was ripped to shreds by the smallfolk because of said bounty? no actually helaena is pregnant and alicent is forcing her to have an abortion. rhaenyra would never!

her marriage -which, in the books was arranged by viserys- is her mother's doing. why have helaena be happy in her marriage, share chambers with her husband and show the downfall of their relationship after the murder of their son when we can just make them not care about each other. why not make otto, who spent twenty years plotting to put aegon on the throne marry two siblings to one another when they could be used to get alliances by marrying other high lords / ladies.

why would we ever have rhaenyra do something bad? bad things can happen TO rhaenyra, FOR rhaenyra, accidentally caused BY rhaenyra, but she will never do anything evil, lest we have an actual conflict or an interesting protagonist. nothing is ever her fault, she's just a victim, all the women are victims, they're all so good, this is a feminist show!

I’ve seen a lot of Team Black stans argue that the Dance is about "misogyny," not about "monarchy being bad", as if those are two separated things. This is like saying "the walls are bad" without realizing the foundation is rotten. Or it’s like saying "the roof leaked" without realizing the whole house was built on rotten wood. You can’t fix one without fixing the other. The Dance shows that the monarchy is a toxic system because it was built around unequal power/rights and misogyny is not just a side effect of monarchy it is built into the system itself. GRRM is not only criticizing the way women are treated within a monarchy he is showing how the institution of monarchy depends on patriarchal systems. The laws of succession, the social norms that define women’s value, and the political systems that deny women power are all part of how the monarchy functions.

Monarchy historically has been tied to gender hierarchy, with succession laws created to prioritize male heirs and limit women’s access to power. The exclusion of women was not a flaw in these systems it was in fact a fundamental part of how monarchy maintained itself. Even modern monarchies only changed some of these rules recently for example, the British monarchy adopted absolute primogeniture in 2013! ending male preference in succession after centuries of discrimination against women. So how tf are you going to say the Dance is about misogyny but not about monarchy being bad when the reason monarchy is bad in the first place is because misogyny/sexism/hierarchy are built into the system. This is like separating a symptom from the system that produces it.

The Dance is not simply a conflict where misogyny appears alongside monarchy. It is a story about a system whose foundations are already unstable because it is built on exclusion and inequality. The problem is not only that women are treated unfairly within the system the system itself was designed in a way that disadvantages them. Rhaenyra’s struggle exists because she is challenging a system that was never designed to accept women as equal rulers. Her suffering is not just personal bad luck it is a consequence of a political system built around patriarchal legitimacy.

You cannot criticize the walls while ignoring the foundation they stand on. The Dance shows that the monarchy is not broken because of a few bad individuals it is broken because the system itself creates the conditions for conflict. Defending that system means defending the structures that allowed the unfair rules to exist in the first place and defending kings and queens is defending inequality that keeps them in power. This isn’t a modern society.

i don't understand why people think it's a gotcha moment that daemon killed aemond above the god's eye. like yeah i could also kill my enemy if i went into the fight knowing i was gonna kill myself to bring the guy down while he was fighting fair. he went into this knowing he couldn't kill aemond in an actual fight and purposefully didn't buckle himself. he had caraxes, a younger, smaller and more agile dragon that should be better for fighting in close proximity than vhagar is, and he still chooses to jump to his death to get aemond. people be commenting his gifs under aemond edits meanwhile daemon had to basically kill himself to get aemond. it's really not the feat yall think it is. i don't think you 'win' the battle if you also had to die. just sayin
