is the group for people who are good at math?
not really! it’s for anyone.
that said, the group has been totally inactive for like 6 months now.

@mathstudysquad
is the group for people who are good at math?
not really! it’s for anyone.

yeah, i'm a 3rd year chemistry major and i've done tutoring before so i have experience with it. i'd definitely think of starting a similar thing.
good luck!!
-mod kes
this is such a cool idea! i think it would be great if there were a study group that included other subjects too (and categorized them) because i'm a disabled college student who would love to help kids with school, but math isn't my best subject (i'm pretty proficient with high school level math though)
thank you! we’re both best at math, but there has been some discussion of helping with other stuff in the chat… if you make a similar blog i’d love to boost it!
-mod kes
hi, i was just wondering how have two separate age groups would affect the ability of the groups to actually help with math? i understand the concern, but wouldn't the people of similar ages be learning the same thing? with separate groups, there is not really an older person who has already taken the course and understands the material
yes, this is something we’ve been thinking about too, and have received asks about.
does anyone want to give feedback? :O

mathstudysquad is taking applications for mods!
an anon pointed out that since both the current mods/founders are adults, there’s an inherent power imbalance. so we’re setting up a separate chat for under-17s! however we will need mods for this
we will need about 4~ mods for this, keep in mind:
must be 15-17
willing to help members with math
must be neurodivergent/mentally ill
have a skype
read the rules
we also need mods for the 18+ chat (2-3 mods):
must be 18+
willing to help members with math
must be neurodivergent/mentally ill
have a skype
read the rules
the mod application is >here< !
anyone can signal boost this!
Will you still be doing this in February? I don't have math until next semester but I feel like this will really help me when I do start grade ten math.
we plan to, yes! good luck!
hey, we’re both not so active right now, mod smoke (me) is going thru a hard time atm so I’m sorry for the inactivity, we’re working on a mods application to find more mods and also split the chat! hopefully we will be back in work in a few days!! (adding people and finishing the mods application)
hey sorry for the inactivity! ive been dissociating all day and mod smoke hasnt been great brainwise either i think (not gonna share details without asking them). we will be back soon! hopefully!
btw, added to the members page everyone who’s currently joined the chat!
Can you darken you links on mobile a bit, I cant see anything very well and cant read them, sorry!
Hey, we just darkened the links, I hope it helps!
edit:i forgot that the mobile theme is seperate from the desktoo theme! i updated the mobile theme now sorry!><
Hmm i think you have a really good idea here but both your mods are adults and 14-20 is a huge age range? To minimise power imbalance and abuse maybe you should make this group 16-20 or even 18-20? And have a separate group for younger teens, modded by 16 year olds? Don't like the sound of 20 year olds getting close to 14 year olds. Good luck with everything though, it sounds great!
Hey, thanks for sending this ask, our group was meant for us to help with math problems, and because we're in our last year of school and mod kes is done with school we thought we could help teens with their problems, however you are very right so we will see if we can make a seperate chat with younger mods for 14-16 year olds!
-mod smoke
true, this is a good idea! thank you :)
-mod kes
If someone new were to join the chat, could you update the triggers list to include theirs?
yes, that’s the idea! there’s a space on the signup form to list any important triggers.
we’ve sent skype requests to everyone currently on the list, and updated the chat triggers page!
hey zemawrath we got your submission but you gave us your skype screenname and there’s a lot of people with the same name as you, so we cant add you. If you could send us an ask or new submission with ur skype username we can add you!
-mod smoke
hi! I'm a multiple system and I have one system member that's under 14 (10). the other three of us are 14-17, is it still okay to apply?
that’s fine by us, if that system member is comfortable with the fact that there will be 18/19-year olds in the chat!
math study squad
hey! welcome to mathstudysquad! this is a math study skype group aimed at neurodivergent/mentally ill teens.
math is hard, and un-intuitive! it can be very difficult to learn, especially if your teachers are bad/ableist. so, we’ve made this group chat to help address that!
rules:
to join, you must:
be aged 14-20
be neurodivergent (self diagnosed is fine! both mods have a mixture of self and professional diagnosis, and we support any reason for wanting either.)
read our rules
sign up here through google docs
