“Woah that’s cool…I wonder if I can do that.”
☾She sighed wistfully, staring down at the water. How cruel was it to trap a fish on land for the rest of her life? Even without the harsh conditions and abuse at Lady Maader’s hand, it was a dreadful life to live. She didn’t need to live under the sea forever, she just wanted to go there at all. Maybe she still had a family waiting for her near Parthevia, that’s where she remembered being before, though she didn’t really remember it well at all. She just wanted to return home and pray there was still a home for her to return to.☽
☾For some reason she wasn’t much surprised that he knew of something similar; it seemed like wickedness was abundant wherever one went. She didn’t have much hope in mermaids more than she did of humans, that is to say that she thought it was in her nature to encounter suffering no matter where she turned. This was one fear she often had about her home as well. What if she someday were able to return but all she was met with was more misery?☽
☾At his suggestion she couldn’t help but let out a laugh. She covered her mouth and laughed into her hands a moment, hiding her face from him in embarrassment. She knew it wasn’t a laughing matter and she didn’t mean for him to think she was laughing at him, but his suggestion was so absurd she couldn’t help but do so.☽
“Sorry. It’s just…you don’t know Lady Maader at all.”
☾She sat up straight and managed a little sigh, though the laughter helped her keep a little smile despite being quite sad.☽
“It doesn’t matter if she thinks someone took it off of me or I took it off myself, she’ll punish me the same either way. If I’m lucky she’ll torture me for a day or two…if I’m not and she decides she doesn’t need me anymore she’ll kill me for trying to escape though it’s not too likely. As long as I’m useful to her I’m lucky.”
“if you ever visit the Atlantic Sea I can introduce you to some who can, I’m sure if they’ll teach you if you’re able to”
Hakuryuu’s reaction seemed quite amused, happy even. Kil was proving to be quite the interesting conversation partner, he was telling him so much on how humans interacted and lived their lives. Even if it was as depressing as his home under the ocean waters, with people having their rights taken and being owned by another.
He tilted his head in confusion, not offended, just confused. Why was she laughing, he didn’t think his idea was any type of amusing, so why had she been laughing at him. There wasn’t a hint of anger in his expression, just confusion.
“Why would she punish you for being taken, you said you were her object, why punish you if you fought back and were overpowered? It makes no sense, you’re obviously quite frail”
He shook his head, the same issues with ownmentship were prevalent in slavery. Owners made arbitrary rules with no real reason, people were made into objects for no concrete reason. It frustrated him to no end, and yet he wanted so desperately to help this girl.
“Ah! I just realized, I never caught your name. May you tell me?”
Unfortunately, mostly for Hakuryuu, the two couldn't have kept the conversation going on for much longer as the mermans guard had finally found him. Ambassadors that had been sent to the surface with him in order to keep him from ending up either a slave or dead, what the prince didn’t like was that they shadowed him as if he was a child.
“Prince Hakuryuu! There you are, you ran away to swim?! You soaked your clothes”, complained Jianghong, one of Kouen’s personal guards.
Huffing and rolling his eyes the prince stood up, tailing turning back into a pair of human like legs.”fine fine” he responded, quickly saying goodbye to Kil before they could drag him away and lecture him on talking to strangers.
