Anonymous: Hey!! If it's not too much bother, could you maybe do a one shot where reader is best friends with Matt&Foggy, and gets jealous with all the time Matt spends with Claire bc she's in love with Matt (reader I mean) and Matt finally figured out that's why readers been so distant from him, so he gets Claire to help set up his apartment in a romantic setting and invites you over as a surprise.. Sorry that this is so detailed! Love your writing btw!
You knocked on Matt's door and waited a few moments before the door opened and his face appeared. "Hey, Matt," you said, walking inside as he let you in. "How are you feeling?"
He shrugged, giving you a small smile. "As good as I can be." You but your lip, nodding. Every time he got himself hurt at night, you hated it. But you always had to remind yourself that he was helping people.
"Well I'm glad it's not worse, not like last time."
He groaned, moving towards the living room. "Don't remind me, Y/n. But it's not bad considering, you're right. Claire came by and helped me out last night, so I'm feeling a lot better than I would be." He gingerly sat himself down on the couch and put his feet up on the table, patting the seat next to him. But he didn't know your face fell at the mention of the female nurse.
You shook your head. "I, uh, I just came to stop by. I'm actually meeting Karen for lunch." You walked backwards and grabbed the door handle. "I'll come back tomorrow if you're not at work, alright?" You waved, knowing he'd know you did, and walked out, leaving a confused and slightly upset Matt alone.
It was getting late, and Karen had already gone home after you told her to get some rest. She had been working way too hard lately, so now it was just you and Foggy left in the office.
He came in, jacket over his shoulder. "C'mon, Y/n, let's get home. I'll walk you to your apartment."
You stared at him and sighed. "Alright. I guess I could finish this tomorrow..."
You locked up the place and headed for your apartment with Foggy walking next to you. "So, how was Matt? You went to see him, didn't you?" Foggy asked.
You sighed again, your breath puffing out in front of you in the chilled night air. "He was fine," you answered in a clipped tone. "Might be good enough to come into work tomorrow, all thanks to Claire."
Both of you walked in silence for a while, Foggy having picked up on the hostility in your voice. "What's wrong, Y/n?" But you sensed that he probably already knew what was wrong. This wasn't the first time you had sounded jealous while talking about Claire.
"Nothing, okay?" You went up the steps to your building and looked back down at Foggy standing on the sidewalk. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean-I just..."
He seemed to smile a little. "It's fine. Get some sleep, okay? I'll see you tomorrow."
"Goodnight, Foggy." You watched him leave before unlocking the door and heading to bed for the night.
When Foggy got to work two days later, he was surprised to see Matt there, just entering his office. "You're back!" His hand fell to rest on his friend's shoulder.
"Yeah. I'm fine, Fog," he said before Foggy could say anything else.
He stepped back, hands up. "Alright, just wanted to make sure." He went to walk out but paused when he heard Matt call him back.
"Do you know why Y/n has been acting weird lately?"
Foggy raised his eyebrows. "You don't? You're usually so good with the ladies, Matthew."
"I'm serious, Fog. She's been kind of... Distant, lately."
"I'm serious, too," Foggy said, holding his hands out in front of him. "I mean, I knew you were blind but..."
Matt furrowed his brow, bottom lip sticking out slightly in a pout. "What? Jealous of what?"
"She's jealous of Claire. Of all the time you spend with her?" Foggy tried to lead Matt along.
"She's... jealous?" Foggy nodded, and Matt ran a hand through his hair with a sigh. "I didn't know." It was silent for a minute, before he started to smile. "I've got an idea."
He told Foggy to hold down the office while he went to ask a favor from a friend. He got to her apartment and knocked on the door, and smiled when she opened up. "Hey, Claire, would you mind helping me with something?"
She nodded, leaning on the door. "Sure, what's up?"
He told her his plan and, excited, she took over from there. All Matt did was answer her questions while she got things done. A couple of hours later, she stood back with a slight smirk, proud of her own work.
"How does it look?" Matt asked.
"Beautiful," Claire said. She grabbed his hand gently. "She's going to love it."
'Hey Y/n, could you come over later tonight? I wanted to talk with you about something.' You raised your eyebrows at Matt's voicemail but shrugged it off, deciding what was the worst that could happen? You might as well go over. You were stubborn, but you had to admit you did miss seeing him lately.
You headed over to his apartment after you ate dinner, knocking once before letting yourself inside. "Hey Matt, I'm here-" Your voice died in your throat as you took in the sight before you. Silently, you closed the door behind you, walking slowly inside. "Oh my god."
The apartment was lit up in a yellow glow by long strings of tiny lights. The couches and coffee table were moved, and a tiny circular table covered with a red silky table cloth sat in its place. Rose petals led the way to the seats and were sprinkled on the table.
You looked to Matt with tears in your eyes to see he was standing next to the table wearing a suit - not the red one, but an actual suit - and without his glasses. "Matty, you did this? For me?"
He shrugged, a small grin on his face. "Claire helped." He pulled out the seat he was leaning on and you walked over and sat down.
You blinked, surprised. You still weren't completely sure what was happening. This was certainly not what you were expecting when you walked inside. It was like a dream. "Why?" You asked as he sat down.
He sighed, holding his hand out. You reached for it instinctively. "Because I'm a blind idiot."
You couldn't help but let out a chuckle. "Well, I know that, Matty."
He grinned, and laughed, himself. "No. Well, yeah, I guess." He cleared his throat, and you waited patiently. "But, I meant, that I didn't realize that you felt the same way about me as I did about you."
Your heart beat loudly in your chest. He felt the same?
"Foggy told me," he continued nervously, "and I feel stupid for not realizing it. Maybe I wasn't the best at showing you, but you mean so much to me. Y/n, I do feel the same, and-"
Your smile had grown larger and wider and you held Matt's hand until you just couldn't take it anymore. You pulled him towards you and kissed him from across the table, feeling him smile against your lips.
You pulled away, smiling with your eyes closed. "I'll have to thank Claire," you whispered.
"So, you were jealous of her?" Matt grinned.
You let out a short laugh, cheeks turning red. "Well, I mean... I just..." Sighing heavily, you gave up as Matt chuckled again and cupped your face in his hands.
"Well, there's no need to be," he reassured gently, pulling you in for another kiss.
