I actually really love the idea of the greater galaxy falling in love with Cal through his wanted posters and the empire’s footage and rumors being passed around. Inspiring a new wave of (illegal) Jedi hero/romance fiction.

A member of the slowly growing resistance (Young. Enterprising. In tune with the cultural zeitgeist of Coruscant): I know this isn’t something we’ve done before, but I really think we should consider figuring out ways to lean into Cal’s status as a sex symbol in the core worlds. It could help sway people towards the resistance.

I headcannon that Luke had a celebrity crush on Cal during his time with the Rebel Alliance. I like to believe that Luke collected wanted posters of Jedi fugitives he admired in the hopes of seeking them out later :)

I love how much Jedi Survivor behaves like a mirror. I could already tell Dagan was supposed to be a mirror/cautionary tale by the time Cal had to go after Rayvis, but to see it played out symbolically in the boss fight was so fun. Cal and Dagan don't actually end up on the ceiling, as we see when BD runs over to Bode, it's all a hallucination on Dagan's part. But in this illusion he takes Cal to a literal parallel plane (?) as they finally fully confront each other.

And then of course, when Cal takes a trick out of the old Zeffo book and turns Dagan's hallucinatory tricks back onto him to reflect his worst fear: Santari's judgement.

Bode kinda falls into this mix too, esp when it comes to all of their reasons for going to Tanalorr. All of them have some external "selfless" reason for going to Tanalorr: Dagan wants a new frontier for the Order, Cal wants a safe place away from the Empire, and Bode wants a home for Kata. But internally, their reasons are not the same (except Bode sort of. Hence the "kinda" earlier). Dagan wants the prestige, Cal so desperately wants to feel accomplished, and Bode... prioritizes family a little too hard and takes away a vital resource that could absolutely be shared? I guess is the best way to fit him into that. Although in Cal being a parallel to Dagan if they use Tanalorr offensively the Empire would find a way in.

Does Bode parallel Santari more, then? They both take away the way to Tanalorr from someone who wants it ridiculously badly, because they don't want Tanalorr to be used in an offensive way? I guess Santari had the more selfless approach though, she was truly worried about Dagan whereas Bode just wanted Tanalorr for him and Kata.

Anyway, since this is a reflective point for Cal, I really wonder where that'll take the third game. We'll just have to wait and see, though

This reminds me of a video I watched that analyzed Survivor and drew a similar comparison that stuck with me. They proposed that since Cal's primary struggle in the game is having to balance his urge to fight without getting consumed by it, Dagan and Bode represent the two extremes of the paths he could take.

Dagan represents what Cal could become if he looses himself to the fight, while Bode represents what could happen if Cal completely turns his back to it. He needs to achieve balance, like Cere did.

Also, the color scheme on that lightsaber reminds me of when I played Jedi: Survivor with my dad, cause he used that exact same palette, and we joked that it looked like a plastic toy from Walmart

Back on my bullshit (aka stupid headcanon that makes me happy but is otherwise zero impact on the actual canon)

I think Cal should have fun socks

This is a kid who was raised not to put too much importance on material things who was put into an environment where even if he wanted something nice or remotely frivolous he couldn’t afford it

He makes it onto the Mantis with just the clothes on his back and collects only ponchos in the first game (or do we count the other colors of his rigger gear too?)

So when he finally gets out into the galaxy (and clearly has some access to money because he’s got new clothes and has to have been eating during the gap between games) I like to imagine he decides he’s going to have one thing that’s just for him and fun but he can’t completely abandon his practical nature so socks it is

They’re functional and no one needs to know they’ve got lil tookas on them (except BD who knows everything obv)

(Later when Merrin finds out she has to take a second to evaluate just how attracted to him she is and decides it’s just too sweet and he’s too hot for it to matter)

((Greez teases him mercilessly but if he goes to Doma and works out a deal to get fun patterned socks neither of them will ever tell Cal how that happened))

Idk I just think he deserves to have something just for him and that part of healing when you’ve been too self sacrificing for too long is important

(Something something everyone who wanted some specific thing in childhood and eventually decides to get it as an adult to heal that lil part of them. Don’t look at my Lego collection okay, it’s therapeutic)
