‘ alright, alright. i’m just saying, worse comes to worst, it could work. it’s not that bad of an idea. but yeah, alright. we’ll get you a–– bucket, or something, yeah ? ’
“yeah, THANKS, easton. i just gotta get something right for once, y’know?”
‘ like i said… don’t worry about it. ’ the older continued, dark brows knitting together as he processed the words. truth be told, he’d take the previous version of maverick over the male before him any day. ‘ uh, –– sobriety’s really getting to you, huh ? ’
“well yeah, i’m a fucking asshole and all you guys had to put up with that shit and fuck- i don’t know. everything just kind of hurts, like at least i was NUMB before, now my bones just hurt. what keeps you going? it’s gotta be arella, right?”
‘ don’t worry about it. kinda owed you that one, right ? ’ the older spoke, azure hues avoiding contact with mav’s –– – instead beginning to retrieve the space that once was.
“uh, yeah, i guess so. and now your maverick debt is forgiven. not much of an accomplishment, but... FUCK MAN, i’m sorry for being a pain in your ass, and i’m sorry for causing you shit and being annoying AND depressed and just a fucking baby about all this shit then shoving it on you and... fuck. i’m sorry for being a mess and i’m sorry you have to deal with it.”
“ yeah you just put the outside string on the inside then … ‘m sure it can’t be that hard if girls can wear their hair in braids practically every day. ”
“maybe we’ll have to ask a girl wearing braids. we can learn, yeah? just enlist her for the day to teach the kids how to braid and i’ll skip and show up because i want to learn too.”
jaw clenching; a deep sigh escaped the older as he responded with a slight nod. ‘ alright. ’ stefan spoke, avoiding eye contact with the brunet for a moment. closing the space between them, toned arms wrapped around the other’s frame.
maverick sighed, wishing for less height in the moment. would it be weird if he put his head on stefan’s shoulder? absolutely. would he? fuck no. things had MAYBE started to get better between the two and maverick had more stuff on his mind than the crush. after seconds, which mav still felt was too long, he pulled away with a quick nod of his head. “thanks, uh, SORRY,” maverick said quietly, tucking his hands in the back pockets of his jeans looking anywhere but in the direction of stefan.
‘ seems more than a lil’ UNGRATEFUL to me —- —- but i don’t b l a m e you if you were raised that way. doesn’t mean you can’t start now! my grandma was a sweetheart, i miss her dearly. every day. — — but my family ain’t interesting, ‘sides for me having a twin. what about you? you have any family left? ’
“uh, no. not really. ‘sides easton, of course. she’s my best friend and we were kind of raised together the past eleven years, basically my sister. mom, dad, ex... all before i got here. a twins gotta be interesting, ever switch places?”
“ well i dunno, did they ? it’ll keep ‘em BUSY if nothin’ else – ‘til they start cryin’ because their rope keeps breakin’ on them. ”
“well we just need to teach them to braid well. do you know how to braid, aren? cus’ i sure as FUCK don’t.”
‘ –– – you want a hug ? ’
"... it'd be nice. as an emotionally unstable kid without a family a hug would be nice. unless of course you don't want to, fist bumps are cool too."
‘ BARELY. kind of attempting to forget the last year or so of my life. –– – why ? ’
“you still owe me, and i, uh, i don’t like people who cheap out, stef.”
‘ –– – you mean CHRISTMAS ? ’
“yeah! that one. okay so you remember it? do you remember the gift exchange?”
‘ ain’t anyone ever tell you to count your blessings? every night before my grandma let us eat, she’d make us thank the lord for all we had. what you have? is a heart beating in your chest and enough stuff lyin’ around to keep you alive. ’ felicity smiled gently, as if to coax him to believe her, but truth be told — — she agreed with the younger: the last thing she wanted to do was count her blessings and smile.
“no, counting blessings was never a thing in my house. not even thanksgiving, i think we just appreciated the stuff, but your grandma does sound lovely. were you close to your family before?”
‘ —— - BOO. boo you, lanky one. nothin’ quite like a good rodeo. sure. tall, too. why? did someone ever tell you otherwise? ‘
“that i was pretty? i don’t think anyone has ever called me pretty. shaggy, maybe. why?”
❝ he already knows he’s a wanker, i tell him that MOST days. fun sucker would be a new one though – might make up for you believin’ in G H O S T S and lovin’ dogs. ❞
“dogs are great, don’t you know? oh right, you were DEPRIVED. deprived from scary stories and fluffy friends. he really IS a fun sucker.”
@deliirus
“so, stef, with the slow regain of my memory i want to know if you remember that one holiday that comes like once a year in the most canadian of the winters, around the time when i lost my dog. remember that holiday?”
❝ you are a good friend, he’s just a WANKER… hey, i should tell him you said that – i’m sure he’d LOVE to hear it. ❞
“what? that i’m a good friend? or that he’s a fun sucker? or that you called him a wanker?”
“ take ‘em off, put em out to DRY ; ain’t that what everyone does ? plus, i never said i was a one pair guy – i am but … one pair of laces ain’t gonna be enough. if we’re gonna do this, we gotta do it right. the kids have to be at least far enough that they couldn’t just talk to each other normally. ”
“maybe we can like... braid grass strands together as an ATTEMPT to make rope. i mean, that’s how they used to do it, right?”
‘ we aren’t cats! curiosity didn’t ever kill no one, i don’t think — and i think they’re tryin’ their best. wall wouldn’t be up if they didn’t. ’ [ slacking off is right — literally N O T H I N G works around here. ]
“the wall was a desperate move, now it’s just the drought that is making us desperate and it has NOTHING to do with maintenance.”
