I decided to draw a sprite of the queen where she is carried in arms

I like to think that Queen and King’s relationship mirrors Toriel and Asgore’s. I’m unsure if it’s presented in canon but I interpret the divorce between King and Queen became realized after he vowed against lightners altogether. It’s implied he was far kinder and more benevolent as a ruler prior to being torn and discarded(heh) so I think their relationship was fairly smooth sailing at that stage similar to a honeymoon phase between Tori and Asgore. Queen and King have their first kid Tori and Asgore have Asriel and shits still peachy.

More or less I interpret Queen’s relationship to King as loosely associated with Tori and Asgore’s marriage but more in terms of King and Asgore’s aggression stemming from the misfortunes they experienced, the dangers of their respective obsessions, and how that blew back on their relationships with their respective spouses and children as well.

I know in the light world the divorce was likely just king being left in that old classroom away from the computer lab but in the Darkworld narrative I consider their separation as more emotional with Queen distancing herself from King’s war path. She’s very invested in instilling her vision of happiness for others so I wonder how that might’ve clashed with King’s desire for vengeance.

Chapter 5 really illuminated why we need to kick Asgore’s back in more but also brought me back to king’s characterization in ch 1. Like I think it would be interesting to explore how much of King’s character in Ch 1 really aligns with how Asgore was moving in the immediate aftermath of Dess’ disappearance.
