okay so was anyone going to tell me the first frames of the entire series are a DIRECT parallel to the first frames of al in conqueror of shamballa. or was i just supposed to realize with a sense of creeping horror upon rewatch that i’ve seen this before

OOOOOH OKAY LET ME THINK. i have to be so honest i think it was the scene where al accuses ed of fabricating his memories... i know i literally talk about that chapter like every week and i say the same shit every time but its SOOOOO perfect to me. its the first time we get a really clear sense of ed's guilt and just how deep it runs, and its one of the only moments in the entire series that alphonse is genuinely angry at him. i love that they dont talk it out because theyre stupid teenage boys so of course theyd vent their emotions through sparring. and it has this line, which is really just the entire point of elricest

so yeah this chapter would definitely be the moment i would pinpoint, but also they very gradually took over my brain as i read through fma that its hard to say if this is truly where i started shipping them

In Regards to Izumi and the Elrics

Lmao, I should start an Underrated Parents series cuz here we go again…

I’ve found in my desperate fanfic hunt that Parental!Izumi is quite underrated, and I don’t understand why. I get that she doesn’t show up as much as Mustang, but she still played a HUGE role in the Elrics’ lives.

How is it just a happy coincidence that these two orphans found tutelage under an infertile woman? I think Hiromu Arakawa definitely planned for her to be their mother figure. It even comes full-circle (literally); Izumi loses her baby-bearing organs, but she ends up taking in these two orphan boys with no mother and a missing father, and Ed and Al lose their mom, but they end up studying under Izumi, who doesn’t have children.

POV: You're Edward Elric and you lie awake at night haunted by the fact that your little brother strongly resembles your dead mother—

Real talk, contrary to what most people say (and barring how Al's hair and eye colors differ in the 03 series, tempted as I am to bring it up), the boys somehow turned out to be exact mixtures of Trisha's and Hohenheim's genes.

Ed definitely got Hohenheim's eye shape and wide array of expressions, but his features and jawline are clearly more rounded out and akin to Trisha's. Meanwhile, Al is almost the opposite by having Trisha's eye shape and expressions, but a somewhat shaper jawline and features more akin to Hohenheim's.

Like I said, they aren't carbon copies of either parent: they're exact mixtures of them both.

And don't even get me started on their hair type being perfectly straight like Hohenheim's but having fringes and cowlicks like Trisha's:
