The Del-Vipers â Terror of the Del-Vipers
I am going to hold The Del-Vipers to a higher standard because they like to throw around the word âelekiâ when talking about themselves. Â And yes, there are two Yuzo Kayama covers on here (âLos Angeles no Nisei Matsuriâ and âThe Angry Manâ [both of which fall flat of the original, but Iâm sure that I would flip a shit if I saw them do these live]), but does that make you an eleki band? Â I would argue no. Â I donât hear anything referencing tsugaru-shamisen. Â I hear no furiously down-picked Takeshi bends. Â I hear no wild Nobuhiro pull offs. Â So, eleki? no. Â Great? You bet. Â Every tune on here is a ripper. Â The production isnât too slick, the tones are spot on, and itâs just rough enough around the edges to feel like youâre there with them. Â Also, I swear that âTeenage Crimewaveâ is a rip-off of âMaserati.â (Self-released as a cassette, rereleased as a CD by Double Crown)
