Maxine Bailey | Born in 1979 - 23 forever | FC: Anna Kendrick
Max is portrayed in the Disney Entertainment Empire as Maximus in the movie Tangled.
Intelligent, Dedicated, Loyal
Sarcastic, Stubborn, Impulsive, Over-confident
Max always knew she would go into some form of military or law enforcement. From a very young age, she looked up to her father and six older brothers, most of whom became soldiers. She wasn’t expecting, however, to surpass her father in the protection of the Castle by becoming the Head of Internal Security. It is a job she takes very seriously, and although it came about through her exposure to magic, she is beyond grateful and honored to hold the position. As far as she is concerned, she’s set for life. She has no goals of anything better because in her opinion she’s already at the top. Maybe one day she’ll find a partner and settle down, but she’d hardly consider that a goal at the moment.
The Baileys have a long, close history with the Disneys. Dawson Bailey was a good friend of Richard Disney when the Castle was founded, and offered to oversee the non-magical side of their security. Ever since, there has been a place on the security team for any member of the Bailey family who wished to join, and in every generation at least one Bailey has taken up that responsibility. According to tradition, it has passed from father to son as a Coming of Age rite. That is, until Bartholomew and Christina Bailey had six sons in an attempt to have the little girl Christina craved so badly. As their sons began to come of age, Bartholomew tried to pass down the family legacy, but each time the boy turned down the offer, wanting instead to follow their own paths. Two joined the American military and one moved to Atlanta to practice law, when finally their fourth son, Zachary, accepted the family tradition and joined the Security Team for the Castle.
With the Bailey line secured in their duty to protect the Castle, Bartholomew finally felt he could semi-retire. They had two boys still living with them; Mark, who was fourteen, and Andrew, who was seven. Bartholomew and Christina had all but given up on their dream of having a daughter, but just as they decided to use Bartholomew’s semi-retirement to travel the world looking for potential Castle residents to escort back, Christina discovered she was pregnant one more time. They continued with their plans to relocate, and their baby girl was finally born in London. They maintained a home in the city so that their children could have stable education, but every vacation was spent in a new place, allowing Max and her two brothers well-rounded experiences while their parents continued their mission for the Castle.
As Max grew older, Christina doted on her and did everything she could to raise a cultured, sophisticated young lady of society. Finishing school in the evenings, cotillions, even several ‘coming out’ ceremonies where Maxine was presented to London society as an available and promising young woman. Max hated it. She despised everything her mother forced her to do, but conceded at the request of her beloved father. Max was a tomboy, preferring to run around the city streets with her best friend Fynn, exploring every nook and cranny until she knew the city like the back of her hand. She and Fynn had met when she was 6 and he was 8, when the young boy had attempted to pickpocket her mother but Max had caught him and returned the trinket before her father could reprimand Fynn. Instead, Max had invited Fynn to dinner at her house so that he could get a good meal, and they were inseparable from that day on. He charmed her family, and though they allowed him to retain as much independence as he desired, they were also there for him whenever he needed support.
When Max began to come of age, Mark had already moved into his own apartment in London to pursue a career on the West End, and Andrew was preparing to enter the British Military. Although Zachary was already part of the Castle Security, Bartholomew felt it was only appropriate that all of his children knew of their family legacy and were allowed the opportunity to join if they wished. As soon as Max learned of her parents’ mission, she asked to join them. She wasn’t old enough to move back to the Castle just yet, but she could help her parents recover the artifacts to be sent back. It was on one such job that Max and Fynn’s lives changed forever. By that time, Max had grown old enough to join the Security Team, but had decided that she preferred the travel involved in Artifact Recovery.
When she was 23 years old, Max learned of an artifact in the home of the Fitzgerald family. She acquired a perfect replica of the tiara from the Castle, and on the night the Fitzgeralds went to a charity event, broke into their impressive home with the plan to switch out the replica for the artifact. Little did she know that Fynn had also learned of the tiara - and the high price point attached to it - and also chose that night to acquire the item. To add to the chaos, a woman by the name of Lisa McMann had chosen that night to break into the house and attempt to see the Fitzgeralds’ daughter, Irene. In the confusion and mayhem, the magic imbued in the tiara was activated, and Max, Fynn, Lisa, Irene, and Irene’s adopted brother Lucas were all affected. They were all sent to the Castle, and Max - along with the rest - was forced to live within the wards. It wasn’t all terrible for her, however. She joined the Security Team like her father and brother, but since she had been exposed to magic and was now forced to live within the perimeter, she quickly became Head of Internal Security, reporting to Clarissa Calder directly. It’s a prestigious position for her to hold, and Max couldn’t be more proud of her job. With people disappearing now, though, Max knows it’s up to her and her team to make sure no one else is taken.
Fynn Richards - Best Friend
Max and Fynn grew up together, inseparable from the time Max was six years old. She will do - and has done - anything for him, knowing that he would do the same. She feels a bit more of the need to take care of him than he does of her, simply because she grew up much more affluently than he did. But she is very careful not to let him feel like a charity case, since that is absolutely not how she sees him - she just wants him to be able to do and have everything that she does. She can’t imagine life without him, and trusts and loves him more than anybody else in the world (aside from her family).
Alison Johnson - Best Friend
On Max’s (admittedly short) list of important people in her life, Alison would fall just shy of Fynn. The girls formed a tight bond as soon as they met, and the fact that they work closely doesn’t hurt. Alison is Max’s confidant on the few things she is not able to discuss with Fynn (mainly, him or anything to do with being a girl). Max started hanging out with Alison because she was trying to get in the other girl’s pants, but the friendship quickly developed into something much deeper and long-lasting. Now, Max wouldn’t know what she would do without the other girl.
Max is actually quite fond of her boss. While Max makes it a point to keep the relationship strictly professional, she does at times find herself wondering what it would be like to be actual friends with Clarissa. She can see that free spirit which she and Fynn share just below Clarissa’s surface, but dare not push her for fear of offending or upsetting the older woman. For the time being, Max is content with the pleasant working relationship she has with Clarissa, but has made a promise to herself that if Clarissa were to ever express interest in a deeper friendship, that she would be there for her.
