Was it ever explicitly stated that lucas was Riley's first kiss? Vause i dont think they have and if not i say the girls had their first kisses during a sleepover.
i don’t remember them ever saying that, but then again i sort of blacklist lucas from my thoughts like i do on my dashboard so i mean i’m pretty sure they’ve never said so, in any case, this is definitely how it happened in canon i don’t make the rules:
Maya’s not asleep, and neither is Riley, she can tell because her best friend is lying perfectly still under the covers. Riley tends to roll around a lot when she’s asleep, getting a leg underneath Maya’s knees and a hand slung across her waist sometime during the night. They always wake up tangled in each other, the sheets kicked to the bottom of the bed and squinting at the sunlight that’s creeping past the curtains they forgot to close.
Maya grins, she knew it, “Yeah?”
Quiet shuffling, and then a soft exhale, “Do you ever … think about kissing?”
“Like, someone in particular?”
Riley turns, and in the moonlight her eyes are luminous, “Not really, just, what it’ll feel like to kiss someone you love.”
Maya frowns, because her thoughts are mostly filled with what she’s going to eat next, painting, and Riley, nothing about kissing. She wrinkles her nose. “Not really,” she says, “I suppose you do?”
“Well, first kisses are important, they have to be with someone you care about, someone you trust.”
“Do you have anyone in mind?”
More quiet shuffling, and then, gently, like she’s afraid of scaring Maya off. “The only person I can think of is you.”
Maya inhales sharply, and she’s not quite sure how to respond, because she is not yet fourteen and the world is a confusing place to be for someone who might be in love with their best friend, “If you want-”
Riley darts forward before she can finish her sentence, and the kiss is quick, but it’s also soft and pleasant and so warm.
Maya blinks when her best friend pulls away, eyes owlishly big in the moonlight.
“Thank you,” she says, and all Maya can do is nod.
They don’t talk about it, not right then, not in the morning, not until three and a half years later, when someone asks them about their first kisses during a game of truth or dare played on the rooftop of Maya’s apartment, and they both smile at the memory.
