Take Action on Earth Day! This Earth Day, we want to make a statement that can’t be ignored. We need as many people as possible to watch the groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary “Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret”, exposing the most destructive industry facing the planet today. On April 22nd, let’s share the truth about who is really destroying our planet!
“Cowspiracy may be the most important film made to inspire saving the planet. - Louie Psihoyos, Oscar-Winning Director of “The Cove”
“A documentary that will rock and inspire the environmental movement.” - Darren Aronofsky, Director of “Noah” and “Black Swan”
–Five times Emma Watson totally nailed it in her HeForShe interview for International Women’s Day
[2/5]: “It’s what makes you human.”
I can't eat meat but that's not gonna stop me from devouring this whole bowl of mac&cheese
Environmental reasons why not to eat meat
(Besides the fact that you’re killing animals) According to the Environmental Research Web, eating less meat will help save water. And living in California where we have a massive drought, I feel like people should strongly cut out meat or eat less of it. I want to keep taking 20 min long showers. “livestock farming requires large amounts of water to produce the cereals used as animal feed”. We spend so much water on animals, that already 1/3 of the world’s population is already living in places where there isn’t enough of water. 8% of water consumption world wide is being used because of this. Yet why aren’t we doing anything about this situation? Why are we letting 1/3 of the world suffer when the other 2/3 can just at least decrease the amount of meat they’re eating. Instead of going for the meatball sub, go for a veggie one. Instead of having chicken in your rice, replace it with tofu. I promise it won’t kill you (unless you’re allergic).
According to the ICIS website, “To meet the demand for beef only, the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research estimates that by 2050 we will need a cattle population of 2.6 billion animals.” This is insane. Why are we going to sacrifice that many animals for our own greed?
We’ve already cut down Earth’s precious trees and have place buildings where forests originally were, so why are they planning on using up more land for this selfish action? A million of acres of land will probably be needed to reach this probable expectancy of meat, which just sounds ridiculous. We have “Already over the past 50 years 17% of the Amazon rainforest has been lost, mostly due to forest conversion for cattle ranching”, how much more of the Earth are we going to destroy before it destroys us?
Week 11
So it’s the middle of April which means that May is quickly approaching. This also means that my parents are expecting me to go back to eating chicken and beef because I’m still in my “growing age”. The past week, my mom has offered me to eat chicken which I denied, which resulted in my getting lectured by both parents that this whole Pescetarian business better end once school is over. They told me once I’m 18, I can do whatever I want and go back to being a Pescetarian. But the thing is, I want to stay as one. I’ve felt better about myself while not eating it, and those chest burns I would get from time to time hasn’t returned since I started this way of life back in January. Of course my parents aren’t going to listen to that, they’ll blame it on the junk food or somehow even tie my chest burns to the computer.
Week 11: foods from the week 1) Headed off to the Spice Hut and got a "Masala Dosa" which was basically this thing bread with potato inside that you can dip into some sauce. 2) Pancakes and eggs for breakfast because why not. 3) Went to Ikea for the first time and treated myself (well my parents did) to some smoked salmon, mashed potatoes, and some veggies. 4) A plate of Quinoa&Rice along with some cooked vegetables. 5) Tortilla bread that we slapped a 7-layer bean dip in because we don't have any more peeta bread. 6) White rice with a slice of cooked Tilapia and veggies Yuumm
Week 9 and 10
Here’s a few pictures of the food I’ve eaten throughout the week.
For the first time, I went to Red Lobster and ordered Tilapia tacos.
My best friend came from a visit from Utah, and of course we had to go get CREAM which was insanely good.
For breakfast, we headed over to the Original House of Pancakes and got an Apple Pancake, with a side of eggs as well as a piece of a Dutch Baby and Hasbrowns.
Made a spontaneous trip to Maz Restaurant and I almost freaked out because I thought the soup had chicken but it was really just corn. My parents surprisingly didn't scold me for not choosing any meat besides fish to put on my plate.
Then finally, my mom entered my room while I was doing an insane amount of Calc work to give me rice, carrots, broccoli, and fish.
