Little Star Wanderers

A single birth for Hylusians is rare. When a babe is born alone, everyone knows what it means. Except the babe, of course.

These pups aren't intentionally shunned or mistreated. But they catch on pretty quickly that something isn't right. They feel unsettled and out of place. And people treat them differently.

Parents can take different approaches. Some will try to shelter the lone pup till they think it's old enough to understand. Others will make it all clear right away and try to prepare their little one for the life ahead from the very start. Neither choice seems to be better than the other.

While no one is intentionally unkind of these pups, there is a problem within society that feeds into a Star Wanderer's natural loneliness. Because they know a Star Wanderer isn't going to stay, people inadvertently avoid getting too close to them.

Lone pups learn quickly that being alone means staying alone. They grow up feeling unwanted and othered. They often become defensive and untrusting. This makes it difficult to bond with others, even when they eventually do find a home.

Mayethians and Temperature

Heat

Mayethia is a very hot planet. The hottest part of the day is, in fact, too hot for most of the living things to be out and active. Even the plants fold up their leaves and petals to avoid the heat.

So it might seem odd for so many creature, Maythian people included, to have fur. But the fur of Mayethia's inhabitants isn't designed to keep them warm, it's designed to protect them from their environment. Fur keep the sunlight off of delicate skin, such as a Mayethian's tail and ears. And the fur on their feet and ankles protects them from the hot ground and rough sand, dirt and grasses their walk, run and hunt through.

Another way Mayethians have evolved to live on their planet is a lower average body temperature. Their bodies have evolved to have an average temperature several degrees lower then a human, and when they eat less of the food energy is converted into heat.

The most noticeable way Mayethians have evolved to deal with the heat though, is their sleeping schedule. Most creature on Mayethia have evolved to be nocturnal, avoiding the heat of the day altogether.

It's rare for a Mayethian to ever be uncomfortably hot. They won't even begin to sweat until around 102 degrees fahrenheit. If you notice a Mayethian companion sweating, when there's no reason to, you should check the color of their inner ears, they may be sick.

Cold

Since Mayethians have evolved to deal with heat, they don't do very well in the cold. They have no adaptations to handle cold weather. They don't grow winter coats, they don't even shiver. Though they will noticeably pale and turn blue the same way humans do.

They'll exibit most of the same behaviors as any other freezing creature; sluggish movements, tucking to themself or curling up in a ball, and being less inclined to activity. They'll also become tired and are more likely to sleep even more then normal.

One unique behavior to look for in a cold Mayethian is "huffing". Blowing air quickly out their mouth and nose every handful of seconds.

Mayethian Numbers

I can’t believe I never did the numbers, I’m derpy. I’ve had Mayethian words for numbers for a long time, but I never designed how they’d be written. So here’s that.

Kept - 0 Os - 1 Vay - 2 Viset - 3 Nota - 4 Kige - 5 Coldim - 6 Maht - 7 Jaykin - 8 Nin - 9

Multi-digit numbers are called by a combination of the numbers that make them up, so 10 would be Oskept, onezero. They’re also written this way. Mayethian writing normally follow a zig-zag pattern, but with the numbers, the symbols combine the same way the words do, so ten looks like this

But when numbers are being listed and not meant as larger multi-digit numbers, they’re written like normal, in zig-zag

Synring Mayethian Male

The physical differences between a Hylu Mayethian and a Synring Mayethian include Synring having longer ears and shorter tails. As well as the fur on their tails being shorter and more fuzzy, while Hylu tail fur is long and fluffy. Synrings also have narrower muzzles and longer cheek fur.

The rear of Mayethians in wolf form are more like bear legs then traditional wolf legs, keeping the compressed paws they have in biped form. While the front legs are the typical legs of a quadruped.

The fur is dense and fluffy, to protect the skin from Mayethia’s harsh sunlight. 

The wolf forms resemble Earth wolves in a lot of ways, but are actually quite a bit smaller. Being roughly the size of a Boarder Collie. Hylu and Synrings have the same average size.

I've done a lot of things... A lot... There are new pages, new information on most pages, updated information everywhere. Mayethia has an alphabet now... Lots of stuff.

The Mayethian alphabet. The charts on the right are from antimoon.com, I blacked out the sounds that aren’t in the Mayethian language. The /ks/ sound is just a standard X sound, it not on the antimoon chart for some reason.

Mayethian fun fact!

Mayethians are extremely affectionate. When they see something, or especially someone, they love the sight makes them instantly happy. Often to the point of giddiness if exposure persists.

This can cause excitable or puppy-ish behavior such as hopping, talking quickly, and extra cuddliness.

The extent and intensity of the effect varies by individual and exact circumstances, but this is pretty general.

Mayethian Fun Fact!...I've stopped counting!

Mayethians and language. This one is a bit long and I'm on mobile, so my apologies.

The Mayethian spoken language relies heavily on the empathic sense to give words their meaning. So many Mayethian words are equivalent to english words like "this" "that" "thing" and "there" rather then bothering to use the proper nouns. There are also words like "vida" which is simply exasperation, and "iva" which technically means..."person" but is used the same way some places on Earth use "mate".

Mayethians also pronounce some letters differently then some people would expect. Which some exceptions, the Mayethian "i" makes the "ee" sound. "U" makes the "oo" sound and "g" and "j" make the sound they do in french.

Mayethian written language... well the don't really have one. Which is why so much of Mayethian history isn't recorded. Written language doesn't lend itself to the empathic sense very well, so Mayethians most used images instead. But they picked up Common quickly when it came to the Unity System. So all the writting on Mayethia is in Common. It's just too bad those letters make Mayethian words looks so un-lovely...
