Putting it up, and taking it down! This was a fun project
Reading
The reading was interesting. At first it explains the benefits of doing mandalas. The circle symbolizes wholeness and harmony. Doing this is suppose to evoke meditation and healing. Right when I was getting into it I felt really calm! Coloring mandalas is a different story. I didn't color mine I just drew it. But the article says coloring mandalas will bring out your creativity more so I need to do more of these! Then the rest of the readings gave instructions on how to make a mandala. I skimmed through it because I think I got t he gist of making a mandala. Overall this is an interesting method for me to relax and I’m gonna keep doing these fun designs!
Topic 5: Mandala. I first tried with pen then sharpie. I guess I should’ve stuck with one. It was fun though! Very calming to do this.
week 4:reading
I thought the videos were interesting. I already am a fan of spray paint but watching this video made me realize all th different techniques they use not just spray paint. The artists are very t alented producing such vibrant colors and clean lines. As for the second video, I relate to it more. I really enjoy working with charcoal and doing figure drawing. I nly wish I had more acess to figures like the artist does in the video. I need to start drawing people I see on the street again. The animation turned out great. Like a Disney movie.
Week 2: I wanted to sit in front of a mirror and draw a self portrait of myself. Everyday on a different time of day. First drawing was 9pm. Second was 2pm, 3rd was 7:30 am and the last was 11:40pm. It was an interesting experience. I could tell how awake I was in some of these drawings. I got more lose in drawing towards the end. But overall it all produced different versions of me.
week 3: I worked at this gallery so I spent hours a day looking at the pieces. It’s interesting how you find more details and more ways to look at a piece once you’ve stared at it long enough.
Time reflection
Time is an interesting topic I hadn’t put much thought of. I use time as a planner for my goals. At 9:30 I'm going to get out of bed. I should have my laundry done by 11am. From 8pm-10pm I am going to study for my finals. However with these works I've seen, it makes me look at time in a differently. Time is a thing, and I've never noticed that until now. We live in time but do not witness it's process. With Tehching Hsieh One Year Performance 1980-1981, Hsieh records the process of time. By recording and photographing every hour of every day, he shows a visible sign of time. As he says "I'm basically just passing time", and it is shown throughout this piece.
Christian Marclay's piece, The Clock made me realize how connected we as individuals are with time. Connecting all the videos together by time in to one piece is what made me realize what time is. Time is something everything has in common. Humans, animals, plants and rocks are all affected by time. We all experience it living or non living. Through time rocks form into mountains. Through time waves can crash and destroy mountains. Time affects us all.
To be honest watching The Clock was very boring. I stayed hooked on it however because I kept wanting to find the time in the movie. I wanted to see the connection of time. That is probably what this piece is about, to get you hooked on the video to watch the time go by.
