Photographer Christy Lee Rogers produces luminous scenes of swirling figures swathed in colorful fabrics. She creates a painterly quality in her large-scale images not by using wet pigments, but rather by completely submerging her subjects in illuminated water and photographing them at night.
This is fucking outrageous. She’s insane. Like nuts. Fucking genius. Also, this bitch is from Hawaii, which sort of explains her water photo obsession, I guess?

Concept art for Disney’s dark tale, PINOCCHIO (1940) by Swedish-American illustrator, Gustaf Tenggren.
The art that went into the early Disney films especially was off the charts; each concept painting and character design looks like a museum piece. I think PINOCCHIO is one of the “overlooked” Disney features (which is a bit like an overlooked Beatles song—are there any?), yet in my opinion it’s one of the best they ever did, if not the best. It doesn’t pussyfoot around. It’s all puppets, charlatans, and nightmares.

Betty Boop’s theatrical career in 10 images, from her first appearance to her last. (The last image is a little hazy as there doesn’t seem to be a good print of that cartoon.)
The stills are from: Dizzy Dishes (1930); Boop-Oop-a-Doop (1932); Minnie the Moocher (1932); Betty Boop’s Bamboo Isle (1932); Betty Boop’s Penthouse (1933); The Old Man of the Mountain (1933); Poor Cinderella (1934); Zula Hula (1937); Thrills and Chills (1938); Rhythm on the Reservation (1939).
Andres Gudiño, Collaboration with Alejandro Ibarra, Untitled, 2017
Each day, in order to be able to confront the harsh realities and judgements of the world, we put on a mask and set out unaware of what we will encounter for the day. Artist Andres Gudiño takes this concept and applies it to his art. Throughout his performances and in documentation of his artwork, he wears a mask that is a caricature of himself. The disguise creates a barrier between the artist and the world, but ironically frees him from the prying eyes of the judgemental public and allows him to express his true inner thoughts and feelings.
