FOTD #033 : marasmius haematocephalus! (x)
marasmius haematocephalus (no common name) is a fungus in the family marasmiaceae. these mushrooms are often found in the litter layer of the forest, & occur in pan-tropical & subtropical regions.
the big question : can i bite it?? the edibility of this fungus is unknown (not poisonous, though !!).
m. haematocephalus description :
"cap: up to 10 mm diameter; conical or bell-shaped cap; minutely velutinate; maroon, deep red to purple or sometimes bright pink; with a sulcate-striate margin. stem: cylindrical, wiry; 20 – 60 × 0.5 - 1 mm, darker than the cap in color - black at the base & deep red towards the apex; there is a basal disc of mycelial threads at its insertion to the substrate. gills: free to adnexed & distant; up to 14 complete gills & some partial gills; white with a reddish margin. flesh: very thin, tough."

Sorry I've not been posting much lately, partly due to there not being much fungi about as its been so dry. Secondly over the last 6 months my dog has completely lost her eyesight due to Progressive Retinal Atrophy. She's 10 years old & is doing well otherwise. I have shared custody of her, so for most of my free time I take her for walks, but I need to keep a close eye on her now, which makes fungi spotting & photography difficult.
Some edible mushrooms I've found (and foraged) recently! Chicken of the woods, pheasants back, lobster, and golden chanterelles. Unfortunately no morels for me this year, and I'm still looking for oysters
Disclaimer: please do not eat random mushrooms if you are not 100% certain about the identification
