MBTI Types’ Shadow
“The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.” ~ Carl Jung
ESTP
Flexible and tolerant, they take a pragmatic approach focused on immediate results. Theories and conceptual explanations bore them – they want to act energetically to solve the problem. Focus on the here-and-now, spontaneous, enjoy each moment that they can be active with others. Enjoy material comforts and style. Learn best through doing.
ESTP Shadow: ISTJ. Can become stubborn about their perception of the past and fixated on its relation to the present (Si). Can become critical, disgruntled with disorder, illogical, or inefficiency (Te). Rigidly following a belief system or what they personally think is important, with accompanying childish and/or selfish behaviour (Fi). Over-reading between the lines, often misinterpreting someone’s actions and seeing negative intentions where there are none (Ne).
ISTP
Tolerant and flexible, quiet observers until a problem appears, then act quickly to find workable solutions. Analyze what makes things work and readily get through large amounts of data to isolate the core of practical problems. Interested in cause and effect, organize facts using logical principles, value efficiency.
ISTP Shadow: ESTJ Can become stubborn about organising things and insist on a systematic approach (Te). Prefer not to focus on the past but can be quite critical of past performances and overuse negative experiences to inform decisions (Si). Mod Update
Mod A here! I would like to apologize for my absence, I know it's been forever since I posted or reblogged anything. Real life has me wrapped up between school, work, and family so I never have much of a chance to get on Tumblr to post or reblog anything. I'm going to try to post or reblog at least one thing a day, hopefully more if I can. That is all, have a fantastic day!
Stereotypes: not just inaccurate but also illogical!
A while ago I made a post about how a specific INFP/INFJ stereotype is not only wrong but it also blatantly contradicts other stereotypes. Here are some more!
The original INFP/INFJ one:
“Fi is very private and cannot easily express emotions, and Fe is generally open and expressive”
“Ever notice how INFPs cry all the time and INFJs only open up to people they trust?”
A couple on Ne vs Se:
“ESFPs and ISFPs are so artistic and creative!”
“No that character can’t be an Se user, look at all of the creative things they did!”
AND
“Oh man Ne users have great ideas but they NEVER get anything done”
“No that character who is an accomplished inventor with multiple patents and a successful business can’t be an Se user! THEY INVENTED THINGS HELLO.”
The feeling functions again:
“Fi is selfish and inconsiderate”
“Yeah well I’m an ExTP, I just troll people because it entertains me.”
AND
“Fe desires external feedback!”
“Oh that person likes external feedback in the form of attention? ESFP, definitely.”
Inferior functions:
“You can use your inferior function, but you will probably not be good at it for sustained periods until you’re at least middle-aged and it won’t be how you primarily approach the world.”
“As for evidence that this character is an INxJ, note that they are a skilled athlete and very spontaneous, showing clear evidence for Se use.”
Those wacky NTPs again:
“Yes as an xNTP I don’t care about pop culture like who tf is Klam Kordata.”
“Hahaha well I’m an xNTP so I love memes and science fiction lol”
(I’d like to add here that the NPs I know in real life usually find reality TV fascinating and hilarious. Like, they look down on it, but they are usually more aware of it than the average person. It’s the SPs who genuinely have no idea because they were like, outside)
What is Si even:
“Si is about memory and routine and staying on schedule”
“Yeah, my mom always calls me on Sundays at 3 pm and I’m always busy when she calls this week I had the foresight to clear my schedule. I guess I’m developing my Ni!”
“Hufflepuffs are known to have good friends in Slytherin. Hufflepuffs are some of the few who won’t judge based on negative rumours. This means they’re the most likely to approach Slytherins and help them when in need. This makes amazingly loyal friends between the houses. Mess with a Hufflepuff, and you’ll likely find a Slytherin getting revenge for the more forgiving house.”

ESTP confession #3
I should have known I have high Ti when back when I was a small child and someone around me would be crying, I wouldn’t ask “what’s wrong?” to be polite and sympathetic, but rather “why are you crying?” just cause I was curious as to why.
The most relatable thing I've seen today
art classrooms are the opposite of liminal space
explain
it has something to do with the paint on the walls, the tables, the floor, the electrical outlets; the cans with their labels torn off sitting in the sink, full of paint-colored water; the pencil doodles on the tables that get erased and changed constantly; the way everything is arranged slightly differently every time you go in; the half-finished projects everywhere in sight, laying on drying racks, hanging on the wall, propped up on an easel. everything about it suggests continuous use even when it’s empty. it suggests continuity and returning and belonging
thats fucking beautiful what the hell
isfp: i'm a little cold
infj: oh! here, take my jacket
entp:
entp: i'm kinda cold too
istp: well shit entp i can't control the weather
When shit hits the fan in the MBTI/Enneagram community, that’s when you gotta watch and pay attention because people act the most as their true types when in conflict and under distress.
If anyone needs me, I’ll be in a corner burying myself in animal pictures and plush toys, rocking myself back and forth and hoping this will end :’) Anyone wants to join me??
Yes please!
As a mildly drunk blogging follow up to the post I just reblogged: If any SPs want to correct me, please do. The SPs I know (and my 6-person immediate family is half ISxP), rather like Dali, don’t do drugs. They are drugs. Seriously. You know how runner’s high is mostly a myth and how running makes you just want to lie down forever and/or have multiple bloody marys? Not if you’re my ISTP dad who runs 9 miles every Sunday and comes back psyched! Have you ever been super distracted by flowers? Meet my ISFP sister who has maybe had two full bottles of beer in one sitting on occasion and hasn’t touched anything harder in her life. Do you just want to sit on the couch with potato chips, sugar soda, and video games? ISTP sister doesn’t want to meet you because you’re a person and not a member of order Rodentia* but that is what she’s doing without any drugs involved (she does enjoy beer when she’s watching sports). Se users tend to get plenty of sensory stimulation from unfiltered reality, and while I’m sure many like drugs, it’s a really lazy stereotype. *if you are a member of order rodentia I congratulate you on being the first literate hamster.
GOD BLESS THIS POST. I am an ESTP who gets enough stimulation from reality that I don’t like the idea of fucking with dangerous chemicals that could make me addicted and fuck my life up. But everyone’s like “oh ur type would make a good coke dealer”… nah son. :D
YES THIS IS IMPORTANT. Se really doesn’t need any more stimulation when there’s the whole world to explore. Also a lot of drugs including alcohol numb your senses and to relate se with drugs is kinda ??? to me. Why would a se user like to numb their primary source of information. I personally feel disconnected and just quite annoyed with the numbness.
If I’m trying to experience the moment, I’m not touching alcohol. If I’m trying to challenge myself on how well I can do something with alcohol, then I’ll have some. But I don’t need to have alcohol and drugs to experience the world and/or have fun. Drinking for the sake of drinking actually puts me into a depressive state.
Ne is the drugs function, not Se.
^ Thank you! - mod a
Being as your name has "INTP" I'll trust your judgement. -mod b

2 reasons extj's cannot chill: 1. Our life source is made of the absence of chill. Only as we grow older is it replaced with essence of ixfp. 2. HAVE YOU SEEN THE WORLD??? HOW CAN YOU CHILL???
1. I am unable to grasp the concept of such an alien life form????
2. I’ve seen the world. What else can I do besides chill? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
To ExTJs:
Can you maybe chill?
Did a silly little thing to illustrate some differences between extraverted feeling and introverted feeling!
What top notch Se looks like
1. A big portion of the best magicians and illusionists who have ever lived have been Se-doms or Se-auxs.
No other function is so acutely attuned with its surroundings than Se. This is crucial when performing magic tricks. A Se-user can learn to micromanage the physical world in the most amazing of ways, knowing how to bend and twist the reality for others using concrete methods. If there’s someone who knows how to use their body and physical preciseness to entertain others, it’s high Se-users.
2. Not enough? What about the possibly ballsiest dreamer of all time being a dominant Se-user?
Meet James Kingston, an ESTP visionary who bends the reality of what people perceive as possible. He sees a skyscraper, he doesn’t go in and take the elevator. He sees it as a challenge and climbs it. Literally. Only a few other individuals than Se-dominants who have developed, practiced and evolved their Se with ambition, passion and patience could achieve such a close and concrete understanding of physics, one’s own body and its capabilities. (TRIGGER WARNING: VIDEO CONTAINS EXTREME HEIGHTS FROM POV CAMERA)
3. No? Well what about the most technically advanced musicians?
Se is an excellent tool for all sensory hobbies that require physical preciseness. Playing the violin, playing the guitar, singing, all require sharp senses and awareness of small changes in one’s body and position, movement and such, combined with being in tune with the changes in the pitch and sound of the music. Especially more challenging instruments such as the violin require a strong kinesthetic memory to keep the quality and pitch of the sound consistent. This is a side of Se many don’t even think about, dominant Se is so often just paired with extreme sports and there is a false belief that Se-users have no patience to make the most of their strong understanding of the physical and sensory dimensions of the world. This is not true, a high position Se-user can be just as patient and ambitious as the rest of us. If anything, they can spend hours upon hours embedded in the world of beautiful sensory experiences such as creating music.
4. Still not convinced Se is freaking awesome? What about Se enabling hyper realistic art because it notices all those little teeny tiny things that, when summed up, make it look so real?
High Se-users are often artistically talented (ISFP’s are called the artists for a reason) but if I had to pick one that I mostly associate with Se, it would be this. Se grasps these things naturally, it knows how to make something look like the Se-user wants it to, what to change in their surroundings to create different outcomes. Se is more than saying “I see and smell that flower”, Se says “I see and smell that flower and know 101 ways to use that flower and replicate the flower”.
Again repeating: Se is so simplified in almost all information out there about mbti and functions. Se is often represented as dumb, crudely primitive, brainless and uncreative when it’s anything but! Se is awesome, Se is creative, Se is intelligent, Se is inspiring, Se is so much more than people usually think it is and so many beautiful and amazing things have sparked from Se. Give it the credit it deserves!
Se, this is how we go pro sensor intuition equality. Would like one of these about Si
do you think we're born with our personality traits, or are they formed during the first weeks of our lives? because if that's the case, why are there for example way more sensors than intuitives? why are certain types more common than others? wouldn't it be more logical if each type was equally common, if we assume that each personality is based on luck and isn't affected by how someone was raised for instance? in your opinion what causes specific types, like us intps, to be rarer than others?
Why are sensors more common? Where does our type come from?
Like most other characteristics, it’s probably a combination of nature + nurture. It’s probably partly your brain structure and the environment you were raised in. It can’t be based on luck, otherwise we’d have equal possibilities of each type, which is not the case.
Why are there more sensors? Probably because of school (and how parents expect us to do well in school). Researchers conducted longitudinal test on divergent thinking (i.e. a thought process or method used to generate creative ideas by exploring many possible solutions, not just thinking in linear - which is the way Ne works) in kindergarten children. 98% were capable of divergent thinking. They tested the same group of children at age 8-10; only 50%. Then, tested the same group again at age 13-15; only 20% (source). Oh hey, look, now it’s much closer to the percentage of intuitives in the population. Once these kids are 16-18 year old, the percentage is most likely lower and closer to the Ne-dom/aux percentage.
Most current school systems (as it has always been for a hundred years) reward linear, convergent thinking. It also rewards detail, descriptive, step-by-step explanations - sounds like a sensor’s thought process? What happens when you’re put in that kind of system for the first 18-22 years of your life, where you’re heavily rewarded and conditioned to think that way? You become used to it. It’s more natural to you. And it’s good, because society expects you to think this way. Some people might retain their natural ability for divergent thinking and develop it more as they grow up, but it’s a much smaller percentage. I think if school encourages and heavily rewards divergent thinking, we would have more Ne-users than what we see today.
It’s the same for why there are more F women and T men. Society has been rewarding these character traits by gender stereotype for years and years. Kids were expected to develop this way. Girls are reinforced by their parents to be nurturing, and punished when they don’t care about other people’s perspective. Boys aren’t punished the same way when they tease their friends in a meaner way, and aren’t encouraged to deal with or display their emotions.
Anyway, this my theory. Don’t take it as truth.
