venturousheart:
Clara laughed. For a second she wondered if the Doctor would be any good at that, but she let the thought pass. They’d do just fine themselves. If needs be, she could always ask her dad if he could come and help for a few days.
His thank you, however, came as a bit of a surprise. She glanced at him and took a few steps forward. “What have you got to thank me for?” There was a slight chuckle in her voice, and a hand raised to cup his cheek. “I love you. This wasn’t a favour, this is a step. Couldn’t live with many other people, that’s for definite. Now, come on. Let’s look at the garden again.”
danny couldn’t help but smile as clara cupped his cheek. trust her to break him out of his sentimentality.
“can’t imagine why,” he replied, taking her hand and leading her to the back door. clara’s controlling nature had taken a little getting used to, but to danny it was simply another aspect of her personality that he’d fallen in love with. he could see how it might be difficult for someone else, though.
“we’ve actually got space to walk around in now,” he said, pushing open the door. it wasn’t much, but it was private, and it was theirs.
starraised:
There was… a box. In his ready room. The captain blinked as he stood from behind his desk, walking around to the open doors. He could hear a voice, but he followed the sound and poked his head into the box. It was… what …
“Cardassian station, actually – just some humans on it, and non-humans. I usually ask for people to knock before coming into my office… care to come out?”
“well that’s embarrassing,” he muttered, giving the tardis a look that said quite plainly that he thought it was her fault he’d made a mistake. to be fair, he hadn’t quite been paying that much attention to the architecture of the spaceship when he’d made that comment. upon closer inspection, he could see it wasn’t entirely human in nature.
the doctor stepped out to meet him, still rather unimpressed.
“look, there’s been a very big mistake, i really don’t want to be here and you clearly don’t need my help, so i’ll just go and we can pretend this never happened.”
queenv:
Every girl she knew was EXCITED for the ball– for Veronica, it was a chance to wear a pretty new dress, be fawned on by her housemates and honestly not a lot of much else. Going with Jughead was something she tried to put off her mind until the very last minute, and after she’d gotten ready, she knew she had to finally face the music, finding him exiting his dormitory just about the same time.
She looked him over, sans the hat, he looked DECENT enough; and the dress robes showed just why Hiram Lodge wanted FP Jones’ support. She caught him trying to fix his tie, a little shake of her head as she walked towards him, her black dress hugging her curves well as it flowed behind her, reaching over to help him with his tie.
“– you clean up pretty well,” she hummed low, looking him over for a few moments as she righted his tie, pulling back. She didn’t expect cheesy corsages or anything, really, just something to get this over with. “– shall we?” she asked.
on hearing her voice, jughead turned as veronica came up from behind him to fix his tie. he hadn’t done it up particularly well, and he thought she might have been stretching the truth with her comment, but he didn’t reply.
she looked rather more beautiful than he was willing to admit, however. her dress was simple, but elegant, and he was quite glad she’d chosen the black, because then they wouldn’t stand out so much. without his signature hat on, people might not even notice them.
though perhaps that was wishful thinking.
“yeah. alright,” he said, holding out an arm for her. he’d agreed to go, so he wasn’t going to make a fuss by acting like a child and sulking all night. that didn’t necessarily mean he was going to enjoy it.
We must be nothing. - No, you’re not that. You’re the only mystery worth solving.
impossiiblegiirl:
Straightening up with a little bounce, brunette locks swung, a pleased smile spreading on her lips. He’d agreed! Heart pounding away against her ribs, she nodded perhaps a little too enthusiastically.
❝ Sounds brilliant! ❞ Her voice jumped an octave, shoulders rising as she cringed, cheeks flaming. She’d forgotten how horrible it was to have a crush… and to be able to speak to them. ❝ Meet you at the door? ❞
“yeah. i’ve, er, got a bit of marking—” which was true, but danny also didn’t want to have to wade through schoolkids to meet clara right on the bell.
“—but it won’t take long. fifteen minutes. then i’ll meet you. alright?”

clumsyherbologist:
“Would you show me one day? I’ve never seen pictures not move, I think,” maybe as a child, if his parents were friends with muggleborns or something. Probably not. But it sounds so strange, he can’t even imagine it. No movement at all? How do they keep it in one moment only? It’s like they’re freezing time.
"And maybe if I get to go traveling for Herbology as work, when we’re done with school, I can send you pictures of the places I go. You could paint that, if you want.”
“sure. got a few pictures of my sister in my trunk. and my mum.” dean realises he’s never shown any of the boys in his dorm those pictures. it wasn’t as if he took them out that often, and besides, they were all much more interested in talking about quidditch and girls than how much they missed their families.
“i’ll hold you to that,” he laughs, nodding. it seems strange to think of what their lives might be like beyond school. “it’ll be good practice. is there anywhere in particular you wanna go?”
i’m about to change your life. (insp)

Stepping in a new planet is as wonderful as she remembers. A different sky above her, a different smell enveloping her and all the new sounds. She is so distracted by this influx of new information that she almost misses his words. “Huh? What do you mean – not in a good way?”
“i mean not in a good way as in flowers make me sneeze — also, most flowers just taste bad, don’t eat flowers.”
“do you like it?” he asks, a huge grin on his face. this felt exactly the same as it used to. the doctor and rose tyler. “we could explore a little.”

exbenignitas:
The young face and the bow tie; always appearing so cheerful, flopping his hands around. He should have remembered. It wasn’t the first time HE met this version of the Doctor, but you never knew how it was with the Doctor’s timeline, while you tried to live a rather linear life. — The question about his name gave at least a hint, where on the Doctor’s timeline they could be.
“Edward Southgate. — We have met briefly before."
But that had been several years for him, and several faces for the Doctor ago, and so he only gave a small nod of greeting before he also let his eyes wander to the energy barrier above them. He couldn’t make it out. His eyesight maybe wasn’t as good as the Doctor’s, but he knew it was there. There had been several calls; several messages from troops outside London, as well as from other UNIT bases. They were locked in. Or locked out?
"We’ve got our experts working on it. — Scanning the barrier to find out what kind of energy is used and how permeable it is. Not only a way to get out or it, but we’re not sure yet, if this is airtight.”
the name seemed vaguely familiar, but these days he didn’t work very closely with unit — not as often as he used to, anyway. but he seemed to be capable enough, and he didn’t seem like a soldier type, either.
“southgate,” he repeated. “i’ve always wanted to have a name that was also a location. actually, i think i have.”
the doctor checked his watch, still stubbornly on the inside of his wrist, and then rubbed his hands together as if he were putting together a plan. he wasn’t, of course, but it was better to have people think that he had a plan.
“right. do we know how big it is? all of london? inner london city only? that might give us a clue about who’s behind it. definitely alien, of course, but not all aliens are created equal. not everyone has the power to cover an entire city with an impenetrable soap bubble. except it’s not really a soap bubble, not quite the right shape. but it’ll be good to narrow down candidates.”
Back to… Why does everyone want to go back to Jakku?
fiiveroundsrapid:
HERE WE GO. kate knew that her father would be unreasonable about the whole thing, but to see it in the flesh was still irritable. she had tried to be calm, explained her reasons. what she hoped now was that it didn’t become a BIG THING. as full of love as their relationship now was, they were also far too similar and would easily revert to stony silence if needs be. it was with relief that kate could remind herself that they both knew of that particular pothole with them both. BUT, how was it, that her father thought that removing one half of her surname had more to protest against, than the announcement that she was going to dedicate her career to chasing aliens ?
❝ it’s already done, dad. ❞ of course, it could be un-done, but the fact that kate had gone through with it would hopefully show her dad how serious she was. kate couldn’t care less about some sort of military legacy that came with being a LETHBRIDGE-STEWART. old stories of there being one at waterloo, or one at the side of bonnie prince charlie. kate’s not picking up a gun. DOESN’T HE SEE ? if kate was going to make waves at unit, then she’s not going to do it by grabbing onto her dad’s coattails.
❝ i’m hoping that i can earn that RESPECT by my actions. not by my name. if i get a promotion or an opportunity, i don’t want anyone to be saying it’s because i’m ‘the brig’s daughter’. ❞ she issued, calmly. if she was going to earn respect from her name, then she’d rather not have any at all. that’s not how things worked in her world. ❝ I DON’T WANT ANY FAVOURS. ❞
call him old-fashioned, but the brigadier had lived his entire life under the reputation that his name brought him. which wasn’t to say that he hadn’t developed his own reputation, but it certainly helped.
and, more to the point, she would be protected. no one at unit would risk putting a lethbridge-stewart in serious danger. if kate was going to take this job, he wanted to know that she would be safe.
but he knew kate. he knew she was ambitious, and that she never wanted a leg up. and maybe, just maybe, he needed to back up. the world was not the same as it was all those decades ago, when he started his career. a woman could never have hoped to be a contender for a top job at unit.
“very modern way of thinking, isn’t it? to not accept the reputation that precedes you.” alistair huffed slightly, realising that he was too old and too tired to put his argument forward. maybe unit needed change. “i still don’t like it. but let me at least put in a good word.”
You have me. Until every last star in the galaxy dies. You have me.

it takes scorpius a second to process it– and then he realizes where he recognizes the boy. ‘ oh! lu- ke! ’ right. that’s…. yeah okay don’t make it into a thing scorpius. ‘ hi, luke. i’m scorpius. scor. ’ he offers the other a friendly smile, reaching out to ta- ke his hand.
‘ fair warning, ’ he said, smile turning grim. ‘ i am absolute shite at potions. i don’t even know why i’m here. so if anything goes wrong, just blame it on me, and i’m sure professor slughorn will belie- ve you. ’
there’s the briefest of pauses before scorpius responds, but to luke it feels like everything’s frozen around him, as he waits for the other boy to say something. please don’t make it a big deal.
but he needn’t worry. scorpius shakes his hand, and even smiles, and luke feels himself relax a bit more. he might be a gryffindor, but stuff like this requires bravery he’s never needed before.
“i’m sure it’ll be ok. i’m not exactly brilliant either, but at least we can work together.” though, by the sound of it, professor slughorn hasn’t made it easy for the class. they’re in pairs for the whole year, working on big assignments rather than mixing new potions each lesson. and the first one’s a doozy.
“what do you know about golpalott’s third law?” he asks, flipping open his textbook. he’s never even heard of it, but they’re supposed research an antidote using the principle and have it mixed by the end of the month.
