in the hungry hermits vod there's a bit where scar switches rapidly from his red dl skin, to the (cub voice) christmas maid skin, to the 3l buff skin, and finally onto aviator scar, which he sticks with. this is, i think, because the mockery/teasing he receives for those skins is directed at him, for choosing those skins, for playing those characters, and he gets uncomfortable with that - scar likes teasing if he's in on it, or if it's directed at the role he plays with awareness of the fact that it is a role, even if the role speaks to something true. pilot!scar is safe, because it's all buttoned-up (scar considers this a more 'real' expression of himself in some ways) and he has an interest in aviation strong enough to constitute a sense of identity. [distracted] does anyone want to see some really gay pilot art [refocusing] and in a way scar was, i think, in cycling through skins, looking for information on how people react to him in them, differently. it just backfired. & i think this for various reasons, partly because the conversation nearly became one of mocking people with alex models rather than steve models (cub, etho, bdubs) but cub and etho both signaled disinterest in this line of conversation, successfully & effectively. but scar asked which one his model was. it sounded, like. important to him. he wants information ? he wants to figure out how to come off the way he means to ? he thinks identity is a sort of performance so you can (a) have fun with it (b) acknowledge this performative aspect ?
