“I’m taking lunch,” Ethan says as he passes the nurses’ station.

Marlene glances up from the screen, doing a poor job at disguising her slight surprise. Ethan’s tone clearly states, “No one is to interrupt me unless it’s an emergency.”

In the nurse’s defense, Ethan rarely takes his full hour at once. He typically spends fifteen minutes eating whatever meal he managed to pack in blissful silence. The rest of his meal time is used for studying patient files or updating charts. On his most grueling days, he walks to his favorite coffee shop, book in hand, ready to disconnect for a good half hour.

Today, Ethan stares at his phone screen as a stubborn smile tries to break through his expression. Only when he is alone in his office does he allow it to win out, spreading into a smirk as he reads her latest message.

“Ethan?” Sharon’s voice is thick with sleep on the other end of the line. She is unmistakably annoyed. “This better be important.”

It is only belatedly that his eyes dart to the clock on his office wall. With a grimace, he registers it is almost midnight and well out of the scope of a “godly hour” to call someone. Without an apology, Ethan barrels on before Sharon hangs up in his face.

“I’m deleting the account.”

When the Sun Goes Down (Ethan x MC)

Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Dr. Lilac Allende-Ramsey) Word count: 1.7K Warning: None

Premise: A night of spoiled plans finds them together for the first time in two weeks. But Ethan has news about a new chapter in his life.

Author’s Note: This takes place two weeks after Book 1 ends. In this, I am having Ethan tell her about leaving to the Amazon instead of just skipping out on her without saying a word.

Boston is alight in the orange glow of the setting sun.

Ethan watches the glittering bay in the distance, the mosaic of colors dancing on its surface. He should be capturing every detail and etching it to memory. After all, this city has been his home for several years. All the patients he has had the privilege of working with in that span of time are out there, nothing but tiny specks from where he stands on Edenbrook’s quiet rooftop.

He should be thinking of them, perhaps even wondering what became of their lives with the additional time he was able to buy them. He should be thinking of the many lives he will help in the following weeks, currently victims of an epidemic and a neglectful government. A wave of guilt rolls over him as this resolute sense of purpose is dimmed by misery.

Because all he can think about is her and how much her absence already burns every crevice of his beating heart.

The roof access door behind him opens.

This VIP early release is going to be the nail on the coffin for pb's online fandom. Part of the reason playing choices and talking about it was so fun was because we all got to play it and shit post together.

The same has never been true for VIP books because not everyone has access to them. No one really talks about the new chapter of a VIP book when it drops. It's going to definitely kill this already dying community.
