On this April 18, 2025: Happy 3rd Anniversary to me finishing what has since been called "the bike fic."

Official title is: Nothing’s as Easy as Riding a Bike When You Don’t Know How

It was a Trent/Ted fic that told Trent's entire backstory from when he was a 10-year-old kid through season 2 (and that summer). It was supposed to be 6 chapters. Ended up being 19. Ted doesn't even show up until chapter 7. Ted isn't out yet because he only just figured out he's bi. There are multiple dessert-based dates. Trent has the worst dad, but the best older sister. It is a happy ending, but there is lots of heartache and loss to get there.

At the time, it was the longest fic I had ever written at 95K words.

Also at the time, it was the longest fic for the Ted/Trent pairing. And that scared me so much, that I messaged the author of what had been the longest fic up to that point to apologize.

(There have since been other longer Ted/Trent fics by other authors! I even wrote a 98K word fic for them since then. Congratulations to you all fic authors — this fandom or otherwise — who stick with their long stories and are able to keep track of everything in them. You are an underappreciated champion of words and perseverance 💙)

I'm celebrating this for me (as it's not a "popular" story at all, lol). But this story helped me start to figure out how to write novel-length fic. It's got some of my favorite lines tucked away into it. Allie walked so Catherine could run. Gerard Crimm was so awful, that the next fic I wrote had Will Crimm in it.

I'm proud of this story for a multitude of reasons. And I am proud of myself for writing it. Because that was hard.

Just two days after the previous strike, russia hits Kryvyi Rih again. They struck a residential area, next to a playground. In the early evening, when parents and children were outside.

As of now, 14 people are known to have been killed, including 6 children.

In the photo, parents stand over the body of their killed 15-year-old son.

Back in 2022, the world was saying "russian war of aggression will not be normalised". Today, in 2025, we are just numbers. Russia killing Ukrainians for the sin of existing has been normalised. Our lives are a boring statistic and our tragedies barely ever make it into the world news. Because this is no longer news.

Though I have publicly stepped back from posting Ted/Trent fic, I did want to celebrate today (March 30, 2025) being 2 years since I finished "Somebody Know Me Too Well." 💙

I still get messages from folks every now and again that it was the first Ted/Trent fic they read or that it was a story that got them interested in the pairing at all and that isn't something I take for granted.

Thank you to the folks who read this Bantr story of mine when it was first being posted and for those who have visited it since.

And extra big Thank You and gentle forehead kiss for the folks who left kind and/or wildly enthusiastic comments on it.

I wrote "Somebody Know Me Too Well" as a second chance on myself. (There's a reason it's the second Bantr fic I attempted to write.) I wanted a villain-free fic where Trent's two main exes aren't bad people — they just weren't right for him. I wanted a story where Ted fell first. I wanted cozy domestic moments. I wanted to weave something together where the same two people fell for each other at two different speeds, two different ways.

Thank you for these past two years with that completed story.

It helped me to watch this MSNBC clip from Rachel Maddow (11 minutes), highlighting what Trump policies and practices of late — mass firings, dismantling systems meant to help US citizens, etc. — have already been overturned or at least slowed down.

That's not to say we're in the clear (because we are *not*), but it is good to see/hear that people are fighting back. Laws are being upheld. Illegal firings are being reversed. Protests are popping up EVERYWHERE.

I lose hope every day, but gain it back after watching stuff like this because there are things happening that the Republican owned media (which is a LOT of the major newspapers/news outlets now) is not reporting.

Support your local newspapers where you can. Watch your local news. They are the ones who will have the truth for your area about how your community is being most impacted.

Republicans who are not supportive of the Trump administration are the ones who need to be the loudest right now. Silence is the same as being complicit.

We Democrats can scream as loud as we want about how what is happening with the GOP/this country is not normal, but the GOP needs to cut out its own rot.

Pressure your Republican representatives at the local, state, and federal level to grow a spine and stand up for the country they swore an oath to protect.

Country over part. Democracy over a dictatorship.

Donald Trump did not win this election by a big majority. There was no mandate. He had less than 50% of the total votes.

Fight back. Support each other. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

I'll leave you with the song "Keep Marching" from the musical Suffs. The show itself is about the fight for women's suffrage, but it applies to us all right now, right here. We have to keep marching. Because it's not just for us, but those who come after.

For the past idk 2 or so weeks, I've been waking up to some fresh new bullshit Trump has said about Ukraine, and today it's news about him stopping military aid to my country. And I just want to go back to sleep in hopes that it's just some stupid nightmare and the next time I wake up everything will be alright.

A big part of american military aid is defensive, to help us shoot down all the stuff Russia launches at us. And they do this every night. Every morning, besides some new orange bullshit, there are also reports of new destruction Russia caused with its drones and/or missiles.

You won't fucking end the war by taking away the victim's resources to defend themselves.

In what world would this make an aggressor stop its aggression? It's so surreal.

When @rngaredead first asked if they could write a little story for me, I never would have thought it would turn into an epic 25-chapter novel that would break my heart, put it back together, and teach me how to catch fleeting moments of happiness and make them mean forever. You couldn't have known that I needed that, friend, but I did, and this story dragged me through the year. And so did our friendship.

It's been a year and a half since I first saw this beautiful artwork and wanted to reblog it again today for 2 reasons: 1.) Because it's the first-ever art @medecineformelancholy drew for my fic and I smile every time I see it. So I wanted to share it again to give you all a smile, too. (Forever grateful for your friendship, friend 💙 ) 2.) Because this scene takes place on New Year's Eve! Chapter 1 of "Parents and Kids and Partners (Oh My)" kicks off on NYE, just days after "Fathers and Sons" ends. Ted and Trent finally sit down to watch When Harry Met Sally. Ted falls asleep. Trent writes in his new notebook that Ted bought him. (There's more to it than just that... and then the fic unfolds in a series of vignettes of Ted and Trent finding their footing as a couple as life tries to get in the way — with appearances from Will Crimm, of course.) I love the feeling of a new beginning, quiet and reminiscent, so terrifying but so right.

I love that it’s not about saving, but being a team through it all.

What is Catherine doing after the events of “I really enjoyed spending this time with you?” Does she find anything she loves spending time with?

Well, that is awfully kind of you to say 💙

Catherine, Catherine, Catherine…

She’s a busy lady. With teaching, her own research, and co-parenting Harriet, she does have her hands full. She and Michael have become ever-closer when he’s in town as Trent and Colin continue their friendship, but they’ve welcomed a third person into their friend group: Michelle.

(An additional chapter of the story post-Chapter 25 does exist that was never — and will never be — posted. But it established, among other things, that Catherine and Michelle became fast friends.)

It’s also safe to assume that Catherine and Rebecca have also become closer as Harriet and Jelka are now pretty much besties.

There’s no long-term romantic partner for Catherine at the moment, but she is happy. (Not having to worry about Trent as much frees up a lot of her mental energy.)
