The smug grin plastered all over his face didn’t waver for a moment. If anything it grew wider when asked if okay. Taking a looong sip from his drink, Murdoc swallowed before replying. “S’nothin really,” he started. 

There was a pause as he considered his options. He was certain he’d heard right the first time. It was amusing word that the other had spewed mindlessly mist the heat of his rant. Probably didn’t even occur to Bennet. Regardless, the grinning Soldier couldn’t decide if he should prod at it or just let it go considering his friend’s already sour mood. 

“Just thought smilin’ would help lift the air, s’all,” he said finally with a shrug. Murdoc decided he would save the questions for a later time. He was suppose to be enjoying a day out with a good friend. Wouldn’t want to make it more awkward than it had become. It would eat at him, no doubt, but the question would just have to wait.

Ben stared at the other soldier for a while longer, wondering what exactly had gone through the man’s head to make him flash that many teeth his way. He racked his brain for what he’d said and paled considerably when he realized what he’d let slip. The younger soldier turned back to his glass before Murdoc saw his loss of color, wrapped his hands around it and lifted it to his lips, only pausing to listen to what the man had to say. The younger soldier snorted lightly, the corners of his mouth quirking up a slight bit before he drank; “lift the air” indeed.

“Noted,” was all he replied with.

The glass was nearly empty again, and Ben had taken to swaying the tiniest bit on the bar stool.
