Who Actually Gets to “Escape” Into Fandom?

All experiences of escapism are not created equally.

It's kind of a bummer that the Witch Hat fandom is so laser-focused on Qifrey angst. And I do understand it, he's just so beautiful and mysterious and morally gray and doomed. He has a tragic forbidden love and a terrible secret. It's great stuff.

But like, what makes Qifrey so endearing to me is how much he loves the little things. There's so much he wants that he can't have, but what he can do is take care of his little garden, he can cook good food for Olly and the girls, he can treat himself to fancy expensive tea, he can go outside and stargaze at night.

His shot at a normal life was stolen from him, but he's made a home and a family for himself, and lets it make him as happy as he can allow himself to be, and he never gives up hope that there's a way to keep it. Qifrey fights so hard because he's happy and it's so hard-won and he wants to keep living.
