“Oh - yes. What will we ever do without their wisdom and tough love? To them, probably fall apart and be a mess.” Rose hated the tough love act. When did it every do any good? “So far, I’m sticking with our usual top three suspects, however, I did add a few new ones. The women that just moved here a couple of weeks back.” The book was handed over to Meg. “Here, look added the to the back.”

megs couldn’t help her laugh, but it was still pretty humorless. “yeah, that tough love shit really pisses me off.” before diving into a rant about it, rose handed her the book. “town’s full of some newbies, even if they’re not hiding something like this … i think they’d be boring if they didn’t have secrets.” megs was always the nosiest person she knew, always digging around in other people’s business.

examining the book, she read over some familiar names and some she’d never heard of. “god, what do we do if it’s one of our friends?”

“Yeah, it sounds fuckin’ terrible, but it’s good! Promise. Would I lead you astray?” Since meeting Meg, Beck had done nothing BUT lead her astray. Instead of waiting for an answer, she carried on, dropping her hand to cup Megs’ so she could swing their arms together. “A cocktail it is. We can do ‘ritas, or daiquiris - whatever you want. And you can tell me about your day. I need a good story. Stuck in the funeral home all day with no one but Dimitri to keep me company? Trust me, a little excitement is necessary.”

megs paused, stopping in her tracks so beck’s arm would swing. “you always lead me —“ she began, but beck knew already. cutting her off, megs rolled her eyes and picked up the pace, swinging their arms a little more fiercely. “a daiquiri sounds good, i haven’t had one of those in forever.” nodding her head, she agreed. she’d only seen dimitri from afar, so she couldn’t agree or disagree, but she understood. “i bet he’d say the same about you.”

“Come on, Meggy-moo.” Beck chimed, linking her arm with the redhead’s. “A milkshake, though? You don’t want something stronger? Even with milk? Like… a white russian?”

“a white russian?” her nose turned up at the thought, not sure how much she’d enjoy alcohol mixed with any kind of dairy — save for some irish coffee thing. “sounds kinda’ gross, if i’m being honest.” she laughed, giving the blonde’s arm a squeeze. “though i won’t say no to a cocktail.”

“Oh, I don’t know. I was really looking forward to the microwave dinner in my fridge.” Andrew paused a moment, as if to give the offer some deep thought. Though truthfully for Andrew, no was out of the question. “I guess I really can’t say no to a milkshake, I’m in.” The witch offered her a smile, “so you gonna tell me why your day was so long or do I have to guess?”

“i meeean,” megs began, dragging it out like she was contemplating her own answer. “i’d gladly tell you, but i’m a little curious about what your guess would be.” her smile faded with the mention of a microwave dinner — but pepped up again when he agreed. “microwave dinner? i make a pretty mean grilled cheese. no one should be microwaving something unless it’s one of those cakes … you know, the ones you make in the mug?”

“i’ve had a long day.” megs announced, unprompted, but she didn’t care. “like, the longest. i could use a drink, preferably a milkshake, actually. my treat. you game?”

Rose looked at her friend, knowing very well the two had similar struggles. It was always good to vent to Megs. Kept her from saying anything stupid to her father. Sighing softly, she hung her head back in defeat. The pressure of earning his approval was getting to her and she was happy that her friend was setting her straight.

“UGH.” Rose grunted. “You’re right, but I want to be on the council one day, just like him. If he only looks at me like a little girl… Well it just doesn’t look good.” It was going to make it harder to achieve her goal. “We do this on our own though, they can both suck it!” “Rose dug deep into her backpack. “I’ve been mulling all of this over and have a few suspects we can tail at the festival if this turns out to be a bust.”

“you will be on the council one day.” megs spoke, tone harsh and affirming. “you’ve got this. he could just be doing that like, tough love thing parents do that they think is really helpful — when it just isn’t.” shrugging her shoulders, she let rose lead the way, her gaze lifting from the trail at the mention of suspects. “really? anyone we know?”

“I’m ready.” Rose confirmed as she jogged over to Megs. She turned behind her to look back at the festival where everyone was having fun and enjoying themselves. They were lucky to have people like Megs and herself willing risk everything to insure the town’s safety. The thought was shaken away as she looked back to the red head. 

“Sure. Sounds good to me.” She said with a shrug. “We can ride the rides until we puke.” A small smile spread across her face, but faded just as quickly as it had come. “However, I really do hope we find something. I’m tired of my father looking at me like I’m just his little girl. I want to be taken serious.”

“sounds like a plan to me.” it helped megs to make plans. by nature, she was anxious. a nervous disposition enveloped her for years — making her chosen career path a big mistake, but it helped her to know what she was doing, was helping people. “god, don’t i know it,” she spoke, though her tone was more sarcastic than intended. she did understand. having her remaining family think she was just a silly girl with no real accomplishments under her belt.

“you kick major ass. i know it’s hard, because my dad’s the same, but his opinion isn’t the most important thing — sometimes, though, the spite helps. it’s my favorite motivator.”

‘hey,’ megs called out to her friend, now only a few yards away. “you ready?” though the festival was everyone’s first priority, megs’ quest to find the truth never seemed to rest. somehow, she ended up following in her father’s footsteps into the business of hunting — though she wasn’t always happy about it.

“if we don’t find anything, we can always come back and ride a rollercoaster until we feel better.” she grinned, fixing the strap of her bag on her shoulder. “but i feel like we’re gonna be successful.”

“So, guess what.” Beck said as she took the seat across from them. Her podcast had been losing traffic lately and she was desperate for a new lead into something spooky, or better yet, something real. “I think I saw a ghost last night.”

the redhead’s face lit up when the blonde came into sight, but it was short-lived. despite her profession, the mention of ghosts always puts megs on edge. for years, she’s wanted them to not be real, to be something she fabricated in her childhood — her depression manifested as a dark presence, but no.

“really?” the tension in her shoulders began to dissipate the more beck spoke. “where? what happened?”

madelaine petsch & she / her ; ( megan `megs` clarke ) is a ( 25 ) year old human who ( knows ) about the supernatural. they work at ( self-employed ) as a ( paranormal & supernatural investigator ). they can be both ( considerate ) & ( loyal ) but also ( timid ) & ( ditzy ).

♡ megs was born and raised in phoenix, arizona. she’s only ever left the state twice. once, for college and the second time, to move to woodland park.  ♡ when megs was only nine years old, her mother was the victim of a horrendous crime. she was murdered in the foyer of their family home and left there to be found by her only daughter. the sight is still something that megs can’t escape, the same memory creeping up on her whenever she feels the least bit vulnerable. ♡ her killer has never been found, though megs suspects them to be someone very close to her. ♡ since that fateful day, megs has felt a malevolent energy surround her. she’s convinced that it’s the spirit of her late mother, keeping an eye on her or even protecting her. all she really knows is that it feels angry. it scares her. she’d rather part ways with it. ♡ her interest in the paranormal and supernatural grew from this. her aversion to things that disrupt her natural peace is what lead her to follow the path of paranormal and supernatural investigation.  ♡ she found herself in the heart of it all in woodland, not to make enemies, but to become more educated.
