I never thought I’d have to do this, but here we are.

On November 8th, I had a heart attack at work. The cause? Intense stress from overwork and workplace bullying. I even collapsed at work. My heart rate during the heart attack shot up to 192.

After being hospitalized, I was on medical leave for the rest of November and December. My job has refused to renew my contract and stated my heart attack for the reason as to why.

Tried to go back to work on January 7th… and on the 23rd, I went in for a check up. My doctor literally begged me to stop working. It could put me back in the ER or worse. Returning to that toxic environment was so bad for me, it was like I never went on medical leave before at all.

I’m of course looking for work for April (when the new academic year begins). But I need to rest as much as possible. I do still have a lawyer, and we have tried to begin litigation against my job for firing me for my heart attack. (Unfortunately, I don’t have enough “proof” of the bullying for 労災 or a court case. They need recordings of the conversations that prove the bullying, because anything else is he said/she said).

While I can get partial salary from my private insurance company here in Japan, the paperwork can’t be filled out until the medical leave has finished. Only then can both my doctor and (awful) job fill out that paperwork. My contract with this job ends March 31st, so that’s two whole months without income.

Please consider helping me. I literally need to be resting as much as possible right now to avoid permanent damage to my heart. Donating, signal boosting, whatever it may be. Thank you.
