Doesn't matter which side you're on. The degrading treatment of one woman is an attack on us all. I condemn the mockery of women displayed by this adminstration which has gone on unremarked and unchecked by public servants themselves, with the exception of a few, who vowed to serve under the principles of integrity, objectivity and leadership by example -- from within the walls of Malacañang to the plenary at the Senate and the House of Representatives down to the halls of LGUs. The oppression of women within a society that bases its power on the oppression of the lower class can never be addressed by a government composed of people who tends to look away when the going gets tough. It is not enough for politicians to speak of equality only in their speeches or interviews whenever an 'incident' occurs. What can make real change on the lives of women and the poor in this country is for leaders to genuinely carry the human rights principles of freedom, justice and non-discrimination out to action. Never stop at window-dressing and privilege speeches, please. Doing JUST that is disloyalty to us as a nation. 91% of Filipinos hold on to a leader that takes no shit. The women leaders at the Senate, Congress and local government units MUST ALSO TAKE NO SHIT. To ALL WOMEN Senators, Representatives, Governors, Mayors and Councilors, I don't care what party you come from, do something! Women leaders must lead the review and amendment of policies that are discriminatory against women. The LGU must make use of their GAD funds to ensure that the disrespect of women within their turf perpetrated especially by someone under the government's payroll will stop and will not be dismissed without due punishment. Don't just leave Pinays enraged. Take the space back for us!
