"Why do you want to recreate old tumblr themes?"
It's quite simply, really. Many older tumblr themes from 2014 and before have been lost to time, either from people deleting their pastebin profiles or from being lost behind adfly.
I think it's good to try to preserve these older, sometimes iconic themes. Of course, my recreations will never be exactly the same as the original themes as it's possible impossible to recreate a theme 1-1. Though I'll only recreate themes that were free in the first place. It also makes for good practice in css in general.
Tumblr has changed a lot since I first joined it, and themes seem to be dropping in popularity and themes seem to become lost a bit too often. And I think it's a good thing to try prevent that.
